Make a Birthday Gift Bag

Make a Birthday Gift BagYou might be doing some shopping this weekend, so here is how to recycle your shopping bag and make a Birthday Gift Bag. We often have these plain kraft bags in our stash at home, so use them to make nice gift bags and save a trip to the store to buy one! Even if the store name is printed on the bag, it can often be covered up with cardstock and the recipient will never know!

To decorate this small shopping bag, I used some Stampin’ Up! retiring products. The Warmth & Cheer Designer Series Paper Stack is on sale for only $4.00.  I started with wanting to use that paper.  One side of each sheet is more Christmas-y, but the other side is absolutely non-holiday. There are plaids and stars that you can use for lots of other occasions and would be useful making masculine cards.

Warmth & Cheer Paper Stack

Once I chose the star pattern to use, I picked the coordinating color Delightful Dijon Cardstock on which to layer the 6″ x 6″ piece. Since stars are great for lots of occasions like birthdays, graduations, patriotic holidays, congratulations and more, I decided to make some stars with the Stars Framelits Dies (on sale!) If you place one star framelit die inside another you can make the outline stars – and then you still have the center star that you cut out! For the stars, I also used some more of the Warmth & Cheer Paper Stack as well as some Gold Glimmer Paper.  Why not have some sparkle on a birthday gift bag??!  The greeting is stamped in Garden Green Ink with a stamp in the Big On Birthdays Photopolymer Stamp Set.

Here is a close-up of the decorated front of the gift bag.

Be sure to take a look at the Warmth & Cheer Designer Series Paper Stack on the Retirement List until May 31 or while supplies last!  You can see some baby cards I made with this paper HERE.  And if you want something to suit a lot of purposes, you might want to pick up the set of Stars Framelits Dies at a discount!  And don’t forget the Clearance Rack!

Recycle those cute shopping bags with all your stamping supplies into birthday gift bags or whatever occasions you need one for!

Last Minute Easter Papercrafting Ideas

Easter Collage

In case you are looking for some last minute Easter papercrafting ideas, here are some of my projects from past years! Even if you don’t make this exact project, it might just give you an idea of something close that you want to make with the supplies that you have!

I think the Circle of Spring Easter Card is a beautiful card to make with that pretty wreath that you can customize for any season or occasion.  You can just stamp the wreath with the Circle of Spring Stamp Set and then easily color it in with markers or an Aqua Painter. If you have the Wonderful Wreath Framelits Dies you can cut out the wreath and then adhere it to the front of your card.

The Easter Lamb Easter Card is one of my favorites!  I loved that Easter Lamb stamp from last year in the Occasions Catalog!  The background was stamped with the Watercolor Wash Background Stamp.

The card with the Easter cross is actually pretty easy and you can make it with any little flower punch or die you have! I accented each flower with a little Rhinestone Jewel in the center. The back layer is embossed with an embossing folder, don’t remember which one.

You can also make an oval Easter egg-shaped card if you have the Layering Ovals Framelits Dies or the older retired Oval Die. Then the egg is colored with the curved swish from the Work of Art Stamp Set.

I used the Easter Lamb again on the Easter Basket made with the Berry Basket Die (retired). There are many ways you can make a little Easter basket, much like you would make a gift box.

And the last card is the Emboss Resist  Watercolor Easter Egg CardIt’s fun to make by stamping with Versamark Ink on Watercolor Paper and then embossing with Clear Embossing Powder and watercoloring over it.  The embossing resists the watercolor so it’s almost like when you dye Easter eggs but first write on the eggshell with a wax crayon! Remember doing that as kids?!

There are lots of fun spring and Easter papercrafting ideas, just find some project you like and go for it!

Quick and Easy Easter Tiny Treat Box

Quick and Easy Easter Tiny Treat Box

Make a quick and easy Easter Tiny Treat Box for a little gift or a table favor or even a decoration in your home!  And you can eat the candy later!  The Stampin’ Up! Tiny Treat Boxes make this project so quick and easy. If you don’t have any “Easter grass” to put inside, just cut narrow strips of cardstock and moosh them up with your hands, unless you have the old Paper Crimper, which is what I used to get the crinkly effect.

My project was made super-quick because I already had extra Easter figures cut out while doing another project. I had already stamped and die cut the Easter bunny, carrot, chocolate bunny and little bunnies with the Basket Bunch Photopolymer Bundle. The Bundle includes the stamp set and matching framelits dies and is on the Stampin’ Up! Retirement List. Now the Bundle at $46.75  in the Occasions Catalog has always been the best deal if you wanted both the stamp set and the framelits, but now that the Retirement List is here, it looks to me like the best deal is to buy the Basket Bunch Photopolymer Stamp Set on sale at $16.80 and the Basket Builder Framelits Dies on sale at $15.50.

This set can be used for other occasions, not just Easter, so don’t worry that you don’t have time to order and use it now!  There is always next year, but even now you can use bunnies for any happy occasion and certainly the basket and flowers. One day I made a baby card with the bunnies that had nothing to do with Easter.

The Retirement List was released yesterday so be sure to check it out early so as not to be disappointed if any products sell out early!

  • Retiring stamp sets will continue to be manufactured by Stampin’ Up! in Kanab, UT until May 22, then it will be while supplies last.
  • Some items on the Retirement List are discounted, but not all.
  • Bundles in any catalog are only priced as bundles with the 10% discount for the first year in the catalog, after that the items may be available separately.
  • Tools and accessories are available “while supplies last”.

Mini Egg Cartons by Stampin’ Up! Back in Stock!

Decorated Egg Cartons Stampin' Up!

Image (c) Stampin’ Up! 2017

The Mini Egg Cartons by Stampin’ Up! are back in stock!  What a shame that they were unavailable for this length of time, but you can get them now. If you do want them for Easter and depending on where you live, you still might be able to get them in time to decorate if you order today or even over the weekend. There is even Expedited Shipping if you REALLY want them FAST!

With the popularity of the Hey Chick! Stamp Set at Sale-A-Bration, I would say these Mini Egg Cartons could be used for cute projects even after Easter, so don’t hesitate to think of other creative ideas beyond Easter.

Mini Egg Cartons Plain

Image (c) Stampin’ Up! 2017

As you can see, the Mini Egg Cartons come very plain, just like real egg cartons.  You can spritz them with a color if you like, using the Stampin’ Spritzer and ink refills, or leave them plain and embellish according to the occasion.  In the photo at the top of my blog post, you can see there is a piece of designer paper inside the lid and a matching belly band around the carton plus decorations made with the Basket Bunch Photopolymer Bundle.  These can be used as a gift box or treat box. If you are looking for a different kind of presentation, this just might be it!

Remember, the Retirement List for the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog and the Occasions Catalog comes out on Monday, April 10th at 1:00 pm Mountain Time. If there are things you REALLY wish you would have ordered already, it’s time to get them before someone else does, whether you know it’s going to retire or not. Once the Retirement List hits, all bets are off; some things sell out in the blink of an eye and many do not.  So you never know.  We don’t know what is on the list except for the In Colors of two years ago, so be sure to consider those first of all! You don’t want to pay high prices on Ebay later!

Check out the Mini Egg Cartons and perhaps add some In Color products to your order before Monday!

Mini Treat Bag Birthday Pocket Card

Mini Treat Bag Birthday Pocket Card

Two of my favorites here in this blog post:  I used the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies to make this treat bag turned into a birthday pocket card AND the Cool Treats Suite of products in the Occasions Catalog! I used the Tasty Treats Specialty Designer Series Paper for the Mini Treat Bag.

Watch the pattern when you run it through the Big Shot because the popsicles on the paper are going in one direction!  The first one I did I had it upside down! Since there are no mistakes in stamping, however, I will save that upside down treat bag and cut it apart and use the smaller pieces of paper on other projects! When you are working with patterned paper on any project, you do have to think about which way your design is going to go on your project and cut it or lay it out accordingly!

Although this die is named “Mini Treat Bag” you can design a card to add on the inside, which can be a greeting or hold a gift card. If you like another design, you can fold the top over and make a smaller type of little package. Click HERE to see my Altered Folded Mini Treat Bag. It was very cute, if I do say so myself!

There are lots of dies in this collection that can help embellish your Mini Treat Bag.  Use plain cardstock or designer paper, your choice.  It is easy to assemble and fun to make!

Making an Easy Paper Pumpkin Kit Bunny Favor For Spring

March 2017 Paper Pumpkin Bunny Bag

I finally opened my March 2017 Paper Pumpkin Kit from Stampin’ Up! and within minutes had made this cute bunny favor for spring. I wanted to take something to my friend who was in town when we met for dinner and I thought of this little bunny bag that would be perfect and something different than cards. All I had to do was open the Paper Pumpkin box and everything I needed was in there except a pair of scissors to snip the baker’s twine! Everything!  Well, except the chocolate candy!

March 2017 Paper Pumpkin Kit

The little cloth bags were ready to be stamped with a bunny face, and the kit even included an adhesive dot with which to stick the little pom pom for the bunny tail on the back of the bag! So cute! Ears with adhesive on the back were included to stick inside the flaps of the bag. I stamped the little tag and attached to the bag with the tiny clothespin. All so easy!  All I had to do was add some chocolate treats inside the bag and tie with a 12″ piece of the included baker’s twine. My little favor was ready to go in just a couple of minutes, if that long!

March 2017 Paper Pumpkin Bag

Even if you didn’t want to make all the bags for Easter, think how cute they would be to save for a baby gift, like a package decoration for your baby gift or for a little one’s birthday gift. They don’t have to be for Easter or even spring!  Little notecards are also included in the kit that you can put in the bag for a little gift! So many possibilities with these Paper Pumpkin Kits!

St. Patrick’s Day Easy Candy Treat Holder

St. Patrick's Day Easy Candy Treat Holder

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up on Friday, March 17th, so if you are looking for a fun little treat maybe for your family, your co-workers, teachers, whomever, here is a St. Patrick’s Day Easy Candy Treat Holder. You can put a chocolate square on the inside or whatever you find that fits. Or modify the measurements to suit your treat!

This project is so easy to make and as usual, can be made and decorated for any occasion.  Cut a piece of cardstock 5 1/2″ x 2″ so that it will fit inside the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch. Score at 2 5/8″ and at 2 7/8″.  Then insert each end of the strip into the punch for the fancy top. If you don’t have this punch, you can leave it plain or snip off the corners at an angle.

For the decoration on the front, I made a pot of gold!  The pot is just a 1 3/8″ Circle Punch cut in about half. Either just cut little strips for the pot legs or use, as I did, the Classic Label Punch, cut in half or smaller. I first thought I would like the pointy ends for the legs, but I changed my mind. I also punched another strip to go across the top of the pot. If you have the retired Window Punch, that works great, too!

For the gold coins, I used the always-useful Owl Builder Punch!  If you don’t own this punch, you really need to put it on your next order. It’s so fun! I use it in so many ways. For the coins, I punched the small circles that would be eyes. They are adhered with the Liquid Multipurpose Glue.

Click here to see a similar St. Patrick’s Day design I made last year. As you can see, I used Gold Sequins.

The greeting is from another of my favorite things, the Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set. There aren’t many places you will find a “Happy St. Patrick’s Day” stamp but this set has it!

The ribbon is the one with gold accents, free in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure, with a $50 purchase.  You get a Combo Pack of two ribbons, one with the silver accents and one with the gold accents. It’s called the 3/8″ Metallic Ribbon Combo Pack.  The ribbon is very soft and nice.  You will like it.

Sale-A-Bration ends the last day of March and we know that will sneak up fast!

Be prepared for all special occasions by knowing how to make this St. Patrick’s Day Easy Candy Treat Holder!

How To Make An Easy All-Occasion DIY Gift Bag

DIY Gift Bag

Save yourself a trip to the store and learn how to make an easy all-occasion DIY gift bag out of designer paper! You can make a gift bag using the Stampin’ Up! Gift Bag Punch Board or you can make one by just scoring paper to determine the size you want. I use my Paper Trimmer as I cut the paper to score with the Scoring Blade, (one comes with the Paper Trimmer)  but you could also use the Simply Scored Board.

Decide what paper or cardstock you want to use.  I used the beautiful Falling In Love Designer Series Paper. While I could have used either side of paper, I had planned to use this soft bokeh-look pattern and that is what I cut.  But when I turned the paper over, I saw that the pattern on the other side was a butterfly print. Had I wanted to use that side and didn’t give it any thought, as you can see in the photo below, I would have the pattern going wrong, so be sure you check which way you want your pattern to go and make sure you cut the paper in the correct direction.

Designer Paper Pattern Wrong Direction

For this particular gift bag, I cut the paper at 6″ x 11 3/8″. I placed the paper “long-ways” (portrait) in my Paper Trimmer and scored at 1 3/8″ for the bottom flaps. Then I turned the paper “sideways” (landscape) and scored at 2 1/8″, 5 1/4″ 7 3/8″, and 10 7/16″. You can’t really see all the score lines in the photo below and the photo is not blurry!  That’s the design on the paper!

Designer Paper Scored for Bag

As you can see, I cut out that tiny little piece on one end that you will see after you score your paper. And just to make the flap easier to fold without the top and bottom edges showing, I trimmed off the edges of the flap. This flap is where you will put adhesive to start assembling your box. As for the bottom of the paper with the 1 3/8″ scored area, just snip each score line up to the 1 3/8″ scored line to form the flaps.  Assemble your gift bag and decorate!

To decorate my gift bag, I die cut a butterfly with the Big Shot and the Butterflies Thinlits Dies, the largest butterfly, out of a Gold Foil Sheet. (My daughter used to call butterflies “foof-flies”.) How beautiful is this large gold foil butterfly? And to make it even more elegant, I added some Pearl Basic Jewels to the body. After I punched a hole in the top of the bag I tied on a Whisper White 5/8″ Organza Ribbon (my all-time favorite ribbon!) using the ribbon with the gold accents in the Sale-A-Bration 3/8″ Metallic Ribbon Combo Pack (143601)You can also add a greeting or tag if you want for whatever occasion you need.

Check out another card I made when the Butterflies Thinlits Dies first came out. These butterflies are made with the smaller medium size butterfly die, cut out of designer paper.

Remember, Sale-A-Bration comes to an end on March 31 so don’t let time fly by and miss it! Remember, there are three new releases since February 21 so you have two brochures to view at that link above.  One thing that is no longer available is the gold-striped Card Tin. Everything is available only while supplies last so don’t wait too long!

Make some easy all-occasion DIY gift bags to keep on hand for any last-minute gifts!

How To Make a Hexagonal Decorated Birthday Gift Box

Hexagonal Decorated Birthday Gift Box

This Hexagonal Decorated Birthday Gift Box is fairly easy to make and turns out really cute! I strongly suggest you watch the Stampin’ Up! video below on how to make the box, even if you have watched it before because you might need a review like I did!

To make this hexagonal gift box, use the Big Shot and Window Box Thinlits Dies by Stampin’ Up! This set of dies is amazing! Besides the basic hexagonal box shape, it has pieces to decorate the to and sides of the box with decorative little cutouts! There are also other little pieces, one makes a tag and one makes those flag ends on a strip of paper.

On this box, even though it has those decorative dies to use, I opted to just make the basic box and then decorate it with designer paper and balloons for a birthday! You can make these boxes for ANY occasion or holiday! I’ve even seen them online where it is like they are stacked to make a taller box.  I’ll have to learn about that and try it! After I made the Hexagonal Window Box, I die cut  a piece of the polka dot paper in the Party Animal Designer Series Paper package with just, the lid portion of the basic box die. Then I cut along the score lines or slightly inside, so that it would fit on the top lid of the box. Around the side of the box, I cut a strip of the candles pattern paper to go around. Luckily a 12″ strip does fit and even overlaps a little on the back. For the candle pattern, I cut it so that the candles themselves would be fully pictured, which meant I first cut off a strip on the edge that just had partial images of the candles. My strip is 1 3/4″ wide, but you can make yours narrower if you like depending on the pattern or look you want. Another choice would be to stamp on the box before you assemble it. After I had the paper around the side, I tied on some 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon in Emerald Envy. For the top of the box, I stamped and punched three balloons with the Balloon Adventures Stamp Set and the Balloon Bouquet Punch. I attached some Whisper White Thick Baker’s Twine to the balloons and tied on a bow.  If I hadn’t tied the bow, I might have put a “Happy Birthday Banner” instead. This Hexagonal Decorated Birthday Gift Box is a cute box and can be made in any colors for any occasion. It’s big enough for a small gift or some candies or treats.

Hexagonal Birthday Gift Box

To make the window box (with or without windows!), die cut two of the basic box pieces. If you want the decorative inserts you can cut them now or cut them before you assemble the box.

Window Box Pieces

One thing to remember is to cut off the end tabs of the straight strip portion on ONE piece. That is because when you go to assemble the box, you won’t need two tabs matching up, just one. Use a strong glue like the Multipurpose Liquid Glue or the Tear & Tape Adhesive.

Window Box Assembly

Fold the scored lines for the tabs.  I think it is easiest to glue the beginning part with the box laying flat. Just make sure everything is straight.

Enjoy the Stampin’ Up! video to learn about and how to use these Window Box Thinlits Dies!

Easy Valentine Treats to Give

Easy Valentine Treats to Give

If you are looking for easy Valentine treats to make to give to people, here are a couple of ideas! Candy, of course, is always a good idea for friends or family or maybe your office co-workers or the staff at your doctor’s office or whatever places you go to regularly.

The candy treat on the left is very simple, just a strip of paper, really, wrapped around a Ghirardelli chocolate, Aren’t these some of the best chocolates for using for a special treat?! I just cut a strip of Melon Mambo cardstock 7 1/4″ x 2 3/4″ and scored it at 3″, 3 1/4″ and 6 1/4″. Fold all the score lines with a good crease with the Bone Folder.  The little 1/4″ space gives just a little room for the chocolate square. You probably want to adhere the chocolate lightly to the paper with a Glue Dot or bit of Snail Adhesive just to hold that candy inside. Then fold the paper strip around the candy on the scored lines and fold the flap over the top.

Now that you have the basic instructions, you could decorate or embellish this ANY way you like! I punched two small holes in the top and tied with a 12″ piece of ribbon.  On this one I used the Silver 1/8″ RibbonSince I already had the Silver Glimmer Paper hearts die cut from the Love Notes Framelits Dies I just used those.  You could punch hearts with any heart punch you had or die cuts or add a Whisper White layer to the front and stamp some pretty hearts. For a little greeting I just pulled out my old standby, Teeny Tiny Wishes. Still love that stamp set! Just stamp on a small scrap of paper, curve it a little with the Bone Folder and adhere to the front with a couple Glue Dots.  The possibilities are endless with this project!

And the candies to the right in the photo above are always my favorites for special occasions. Simply take a 1″ x 3″ piece of designer paper (preferably) or cardstock and adhere the ends on the back around a chocolate nugget candy. You could even tie a little ribbon around some of them.  Put them in a small cello bag or small box or whatever you have.  SO easy!  I love this idea!  On these candies I used scraps of the Sending Love Designer Series Paper Stack.  This paper won’t be just for Valentine’s Day, there are plenty of generic patterns that you can use for many projects and cards.

If you are looking for some quick and easy Valentine treats to give, try these ideas and make them as creative as you like!

Paper Pumpkin January 2017 Valentine Treat Bags

Paper Pumpkin January 2017 Valentine Treat Bags

I finally got around to making my Paper Pumpkin January 2017 Kit which was Valentine Treat Bags.  I was waiting to see if I would actually make the treat bags or if I would make some alternative ideas, like valentine cards. Of course these wouldn’t have to be just for Valentine’s Day. I saw online where someone used these for party favors for a wedding.

What is Paper Pumpkin?  It’s a crafting kit from Stampin’ Up! that comes in your mailbox once a month with a surprise project inside.  Might be cards, might be a treat bag, might be an album, might be a decor item – you never know!  I’ve heard some people don’t like surprises, but why not live dangerously??  It’s only stamps, ink and paper!  And you do get an exclusive photopolymer stamp set inside every kit plus a small ink spot and all the supplies plus directions for making your kit.  And every month there is a video from Stampin’ Up! to watch as well if you want a little more direction. (It does help!)  You can follow the directions exactly or come up with your own project.  There are no Paper Pumpkin Police checking if you made the project they sent!  Surely you deserve a few minutes of crafting time for yourself!

I actually made my treat bags a little differently than the directions.  I’d read that the top flap was difficult to fold over and keep closed because of the layers of paper and because of the arrow that was supposed to be in the fold. Since I was short on time (of course!) I just cut off that plain foldover part of the bag and stapled the top of the bag shut.  Just be sure to put your treat inside first!  I put 3 pieces of chocolate candy inside.  Maybe you could put one more, depending on your candy.  Of course it wouldn’t have to be just for candy – a small gift or gift card would be very nice inside as well! I didn’t make the arrows and I didn’t put the gold fine thread bunched up behind the stamped heart.  I needed the quick and easy version!  I’ll save the other supplies for another time.  Even glue dots and dimensionals were included in this kit!

Join Paper Pumpkin HERE today or tomorrow and receive the February Kit around the middle of the month.  The 10th of the month is the magic date to sign up to get that month’s kit, or if you are already a subscriber, to skip a month or cancel your subscription.  Otherwise, your choice will go to the next month. There is no obligation, so sign up and try Paper Pumpkin!

If you are putting in a Stampin’ Up! order, you can purchase a subscription to add to your order and possibly earn a free Sale-A-Bration item or maybe reach Hostess benefits. Just click HERE to see the choices in the Stampin’ Up! Online Store.
