Tea Light Birthday Cake and Gift Box

The first time I saw these tea lights turned into little cakes I thought they were the CUTEST things! So when I wanted just a little something for a friend to celebrate her belated birthday, I thought this would be perfect!

Tea Light Birthday Cake in Box

Tea Light Birthday Cake and Box

Tea Light Birthday Cake

These little tea light birthday cakes are so easy to make and so much fun!  You can pick the LED tea lights almost anywhere these days for pretty cheap.  Then just decorate with a 5" x 3/4" strip of paper around the side.  Punch a 1 3/4" Scallop Circle for the top.  To get it over the light bulb, you have to punch a hole in the center and cut little slits. You can make a template first if you want by folding a scallop circle in half, half again and half again and then snipping the point which is the center….or draw lines across the scallop to see where they intersect in the center.  Then use Paper Snips or a hobby knife to cut the little slits.

For the flowers and leaves, I used the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch, the Boho Blossom Punch and the Bird Builder Punch.  Then I added some rhinestones and pearls to the flowers.  Put a little Scallop Border on the side of the cake if you want.  I added some Dazzling Details, the new irridescent glitter glue in the Holiday Mini to the scallop border.

If you need some birthday cake ideas, get some tea lights and try this! Really cute! It's an easy birthday cake to make and you can make cakes for all occasions!  Have fun!

Spooky Ghost Gift Bag For Halloween

Grab one of those paper gift bags you have and let's make a spooky ghost gift bag for Halloween! You might want to take a hostess gift to a Halloween party or maybe someone has a Halloween birthday. There are so many fun Halloween ideas out there you should use them whenever you can!

Spooky Ghost Halloween Gift Bag

Here's how I made the Halloween gift bag.  It was a total accident!! My plan was to make one of those medallions or lollies out of Halloween paper, perhaps sticking it on a bag.  I wanted to try scoring the Halloween paper and folding up part of it to get a two-toned medallion. I was doing that and after glueing the two scored strips together and flattening it, trying to push it together in the center, I got this oval shape and thought why not do something with that?!

Here is the scored Frightful Sight Designer Series Paper #122351. I made two strips, each 12" x 2 1/2" and scored at every 1/2". ( I should have cut ONE strip 12" x 5" and cut in half later!) Then I turned the paper in my Simply Scored #122334 and scored at 3/4" to get the edge I would fold over. Love the Simply Scored!!!

After I got the two strips glued together and played around with the shape I wanted, I turned it over and used Sticky Strip #104294 to hold it in shape on the back side.  The scissors is just holding it down in place. It is not glued to the bag yet, I'm just fitting it around the ghost to get the proper shape.  The ghost I made with the Owl Punch #118074….punch out the owl, cut off its feet and turn it upside down! Make his face with punched pieces or draw them in.

Sticky Strip on Medallion Back

Take off all the Sticky Strip red covering and stick to the bag centering the ghost, which is already glued down on a black piece of card stock.

Stampin’ Up! Cookie Stamps!

Stampin' Up! Cookie Stamps

Just in time for holiday baking, Stampin' Up! has introduced a new product called Cookie Stamps!  You get three cookie stamps with a wooden handle to decorate your cookies. This works best with a shortbread recipe so the stamped image will not become distorted while baking. Demonstrators were treated to these stamped cookies at our Stampin' Up! Convention this summer!

Check them out here or click on the image above.

And after you bake the cookies, use Stampin' Up! products for decorative packaging!  Make a cute tag with a pretty Stampin' Up! ribbon….or use our new Kraft Gift Boxes.  You can make great gifts any time of year!!

Simply Scored Paper Flowers

Paper flowers have been "in style" for awhile now, but now with the new Stampin' Up! Simply Scored scoring tool this accordion-folded style is so easy to make!  It's another one of those "bet you can't make just one" things!  Here are some of my most recent paper flowers, often called lollies!

Spice Cake Accordion Flower Antique Brad close up

Made with Spice Cake Designer Series Paper #124003 with an Antique Brad #117273 in the center.

This one is tied with Baker's Twine Early Espresso/White #123124.

Accordion Flower adhering dowel

This one I adhered a wooden skewer to the back of the flower.  I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue #110755 to attach the stick, then put Stampin' Dimensionals #104430 (two stacked together) on each side of the stick to attach the large circle punch to hide the stick.

Halloween Coaster Treat Cup Ornament

Halloween Coaster Treat Cup Ornament

Halloween Ornament Treat Cup

I told you I had fun making the Halloween ornament the other day out of the coaster and that I would make more!  Here is another one I made today with a coaster covered with Frightful Sight Designer Series Paper.  I added a Circle Treat Cup to the front, covering a piece of the designer paper with a spider web on it, and filled with my own handmade confetti, glitter and the new Mica Flakes.

Here's how I made my Halloween confetti.  I simply punched pieces from the Frightful Sight Designer Series Paper with the little circle punch in the Itty Bitty Punch Pack (you get three Itty Bitty punches!). If you look at the designer paper, you'll see some pages are filled with little ghosts, spiders, bats, etc. and they just about fit in the itty bitty punch.  I also just punched some colors from the paper, added the new Mica Flakes and some Silver Glass Glitter.

Have fun making some Halloween decorations for your family!  If you need some supplies, Stampin' Up! has plenty of them!  Just click HERE to do Online Ordering or email me at Karen@KarenStamps.com.

Make a Fall Paper Pumpkin Ornament!

Paper Pumpkin Ornament

Do you want to make an easy paper pumpkin for a fall decoration? You can easily make a pumpkin ornament to hang on your fall or Halloween tree perhaps or anywhere.

This pumpkin is about four inches in diameter and is made with a coaster! Just take a coaster you might get at a restaurant or buy at a craft store and cover with paper.  I cut a square of Pumpkin Pie card stock and adhered the paper to the coaster using a Stampin' Up! Anywhere Glue Stick (I put the glue on both the paper and the coaster). Then I just cut off the excess card stock with my Paper Snips….not that you can't use any scissors, but the Stampin' Up! Paper Snips are really the best for certain cutting jobs.  If you need to smooth the edge, just use a Designer Sanding Block.  Before adhering paper to the back of the coaster, I used a Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Write Marker on the side of the brush end to color the side of the coaster….not absolutely necessary, but it covers the color of the coaster. Then, if you want, cover the back side of the coaster.

I decided to add extra layers to make my pumpkin more lifelike.  If you make a small one, you can punch oval shapes for this part, but of course this coaster is too large.  So I just folded a piece of paper in half and drew freehand the smaller pumpkin layers….much like you would draw half a heart on a folded piece of paper to make valentines that were equal on both sides.  I didn't worry about the top and bottom….they extended past the coaster, but I just cut those off later with my Paper Snips.  Before adhering, I sponged the edges with some Cajun Craze ink.

For the top of the pumpkin, I used the Round Tab Punch to punch a piece of Lucky Limeade card stock and folded in half.  You can just run your string or ribbon underneath the folded tab or you can punch a hole with a Crop-A-Dile.  I even inserted an old retired green eyelet.

For the pumpkin vines, I used my Big Shot and the Swirls Scribbles Sizzlit Die.  You could add leaves if you wanted or omit the vines.

This is an easy project to add to your fall decor.  It's time to be decorating for fall and then decorating for Halloween!  Start making some new decorations right now to add a little seasonal pizzazz to your home! I think I'll go make another one!

For paper and supplies, you can conveniently order from Stampin' Up! online HERE.

A Gently Falling Gift Bag for Fall!

Gently Falling Gift Bag

This is what you call "tearing into the new Spice Cake Fabric"!  I started out planning to use more of the beautiful Spice Cake Designer Series Paper, but I see I didn't use any of it! But I did stamp with the Gently Falling stamp set, a 2-step stamping set.  That means you stamp the "inside" of the stamp and then use another stamp over it that provides the outline of the leaf and the veins.  You can also just use each kind of stamp separately….I almost just left the solid image of the stamp alone because it looked pretty enough that way.  I could have used the Stamp-a-Ma-Jig tool to get perfect placement, but I just "eyeballed" it….close enough!

After layering the stamped Very Vanilla card stock on Pear Pizzazz, I wrapped a piece of torn Spice Cake Fabric around like you would do ribbon…and after a few attempts, just tied a separate bow and stuck it on to the piece of fabric to get it how I wanted it.  The top and bottom border of More Mustard is made with the Lace Ribbon Border Punch, just partially hidden under the card stock.

I finally decided the bag was fine as it was, easy to add a greeting if I want when I know what gift I am going to use it for.  I considered stamping and cutting out some leaves and either using Stampin' Dimensionals to pop them up over the stamped leaves or use them as tags hanging from the bow or handle.  But time was up, so this is the finished product!

Save those cute little bags you get at the stores sometimes and then decorate to personalize your gift! Stamp some tissue paper to match!

Halloween Medallion

As I mentioned last time, after the fun kitchen remodeling, I was in need of some stamping therapy!  No better way to relax than getting out your stamping supplies and creating something!

First thing I did was pull out my new Simply Scored Scoring Tool #122334 from Stampin' Up!  This was introduced at the Stampin' Up! Convention and is available in the Holiday Mini Catalog.  Even though I had tried it at Convention, to actually use it now on my own was just a fabulous experience! It is so easy to use and makes doing this much scoring such an easy experience.  It comes with the stylus and also some "markers" to place at the top so you don't have to guess every time at what measurement you want to score.  You can even buy extras.

But for this medallion I used a strip 12" x 1 1/2" and scored at every 1/4". This is our new Pick Your Poison Designer Series Paper #124001 in the Holiday Mini. (Since I made this, I've read a tip about scoring for example only every 1/2" and then turning the paper over and scoring the 1/4"….I'll have to try that and see if that makes for better folds.)

Simply Scored

Do an accordion fold of the strip along each scored line.  I added Sticky Strip to each end for extra staying power! And punch a circle of any size for the backing of the medallion.  I used Tombow Multi-Purpose Adhesive.  I let that glue sit while I did the folding so it would get a little tacky.

Accordion folded strip

A little blurry but just adhere the ends of the strip together.

Sticky Stripped Together

Press it down flat (easy to do) and adhere to your gluey circle on the back.  I even added a bit of glue to the center of the medallion since it would eventually be covered.

Flat Medallion

Medallion Back

Here you can see my stamping mess where I tried out various punched circles of different colors.  The skull comes from the Pick Your Poison DSP….although I hated to cut into that new paper, it had to be done! The paper is great, as is, by the way for scrapbooking Halloween pages…just add a mat to your photo and adhere….the paper is already printed to suit!  No designing necessary!

And the finished product!

Halloween Medallion on a Stick

Silver Glass Stampin' Glitter #120995 around the edges.

Rhinestone Jewels #119246 bling for the skeleton eyes.

Sponged the medallion with a little Early Espresso Classic Ink.

Always Artichoke Seam Binding Ribbon #121000 ruffled around the center.

Sentiment from part of a stamp in Grateful Greetings #116511 cut by hand into a small banner and sponged on the edges with Early Espresso and a little Pumpkin Pie ink in the middle.

Adhered to a wooden skewer with lots of Stampin' Dimensionals #104430 and tied with some 1 1/4" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon in Basic Black #115615.

Stampin’ Card Keeper Convention Make & Take

Card Box

I finally got around to finishing my Make & Takes from the Stampin' Up! Convention in July!  Make & Takes are the projects Stampin' Up! gives us to actually "stamp" at the "stamping" convention.  I'm just not very good at doing the projects during the allotted time….I don't know why….I feel like everyone else understands the directions better, is working faster, etc. etc.  Too much pressure!!  I know at least some other demonstrators feel the same way so I know it's not just me!  I much prefer to do them at my kitchen table provided I have all the supplies at home. Besides, the morning my Make & Takes were scheduled I was VERY tired and was worried about getting my photos taken of the display boards.  So after partially making ONE card, I packed up my stuff, walked all the way back to the hotel from the far corner of the convention center to get rid of my stamp sets and supply packets and walked all the way back to the far corner of the convention center to take my pictures.  And then I was happy (if not more tired!)  But with kitchen remodeling and vacations, it has taken awhile to get to do my Make & Takes!

This is a box that will be in the new Holiday Mini Catalog coming out Sept. 1st called "Stampin' Card Keeper". It's very sturdy and very nice quality.  It comes flat so you just have to assemble it and then you can decorate it any way you like.  This lid here is covered with the new Timeless Portrait Fabric (using Sticky Strip to adhere). Patterns come with the box for covering it, even the sides if you wish.

Card Box Flower

Here's the gorgeous paper flower on the top of the lid.  It's made from various punches out of textured card stock….the Fancy Flower Punch, Lace Ribbon Border Punch (the flowers are cut apart) , and the Blossoms Petals Builder Punch.  It's all actually made out of two stacks of assembled flowers and then all stacked together.

I did make one change.  Stampin' Up! gave us in our kit a Simply Adorned Clear Crystal Bauble for the center of the flower….but the crystal is so pretty I wanted to use it on my Simply Adorned Jewelry so I made an alternate flower center!  Mine is an Antique Brad with a Rhinestone Jewel in the center for some bling!

Card Box Label

Cute label for the box using On Board Merry Medley chipboard and the stamp set Best Friends Forever.

Card Box Inside

Six dividers for organization, covered with the Timeless Portrait Designer Series Paper.

You'll be able to order your Stampin' Card Keeper box #124107 when the Holiday Mini comes out on Sept. 1st!

Something Exciting at the Stampin’ Up! Convention!

We don't, of course, really know what Stampin' Up! has up its sleeve for Convention next week, but they sent a hint today in part of an email!  They are going to have a new product showcase that will blow us away, apparently….again….perhaps like the candy shoppe theme from last year! I'm telling you, that display alone was probably worth the price of admission!!  Here are some photos from Convention last year to refresh your memory…and perhaps whet your appetite to become a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator so you can attend Convention next year! Remember, there is a special Starter Kit right now during July for only $99 to get you started in your business!

Enjoy!

Stampin' Up! Convention 2010

Oh my gosh!!  Aren't those the cutest ideas????!  Can't wait to see what they've done THIS YEAR!!

You really should be a part of Stampin' Up!

Stampin’ Up! New Lace Ribbon Border Punch Basket

Lace Ribbon Border Punch Basket

The Stampin' Up! Lace Ribbon Border Punch will be making its debut in a new Stampin' Up! catalog near you soon!  Just a couple more weeks and you, too, can get your hands on this beautiful new punch!

In this project, I made a simple box from a 9"x9" square piece of Pink Pirouette card stock, scored at 3" and 6" on both sides of the paper to make a "tic-tac-toe" scored design.  Then you cut from the edges up to the first score line top and bottom.  You can tell where to cut from the photo below.  You'll then be able to fold up the flaps and make a box!

Square Box Folds

Since this basket (or box) measures 12" around, when you wrap the 12" strip of paper around, you will come up a little short.  Either you can disguise that gap center front by covering with a large enough flower (which then might cover up your fancy punched band) OR you can punch two strips that each meet or overlap slightly on the sides.  I used Tombow Glue #110755 (Multipurpose Liquid Glue) for the Whisper White band and also for the lacy punched band, which requires tiny dots of glue.

I decided to punch another strip of paper and make a matching handle with the Lace Ribbon Border Punch.  Wouldn't this punch make beautiful Easter baskets?  (not that I am thinking that far ahead!!)
