The New Stampin’ Up! Catalog Begins Today!

Quick and Easy Birthday Card with Doily

Today is the day we’ve all been waiting for!  The new Stampin’ Up! Catalog begins today! At least, this afternoon! Ordering from the new catalog should begin by Noon (Mountain Time).

Here is a birthday card I made with the new Happy Birthday Gorgeous Photopolymer Stamp Set.  The card base is one of the new In Colors, Berry Burst, and the layered designer paper is from the Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper Stack.  This paper is copied from the popular Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper from the previous catalog, but in the In Colors. It’s beautiful!

The Happy Birthday greeting is stamped on a piece of Whisper White with Berry Burst ink and die cut with the Stitched Shapes Framelits Die.  The little stamped flowers are also in that stamp set. Then this circle is layered on a pretty Delicate White DoilyAfter adhering that to the front of the card, I couldn’t resist adding one of the new Glitter Enamel Dots. You for sure will want at least one package of these in your stash, although they were so popular with Demonstrators that they are backordered but more are on the way early next week! Get some while you can in case they go on backorder again.

This was just a quick and easy card to use some new products to celebrate the new Stampin’ Up! 2017-18 Annual Catalog!

Thinking of You Oval Window Card

Thinking of You Oval Window Card

This Thinking of You Oval Window Card could be used for many occasions, not just “thinking of you”. We often are looking for a masculine card, which this one could be categorized under, but it could be for anyone for any occasion.

However, since we are only two days away from the Stampin’ Up! Catalog changeover, I wanted to use a bit of old and a bit of new to make this card!  And what could be better for “old” than the classic Lovely As a Tree Stamp Set! If you are new to Stampin’ Up!, you might not realize how long Lovely As a Tree has been in the catalog! It’s been there as long as I’ve been a Demonstrator and that’s getting to be pretty long! It will be a dark stamping day if they ever retire this stamp set!  It’s not referred to as “classic” for nothing because it just is SO versatile, and that’s what we love with our stamp sets, ones that can be used for many types of cards or projects. I’ve made Christmas cards with it (one of my favorite easy cards ever!), sympathy, Father’s Day, birthday, you name it.

For the inside of this card, I stamped the trees with Chocolate Chip ink on Whisper White Cardstock and then colored in the leaves and grass with Sponge Daubers and three colors of green ink (Lemon Lime Twist, Old Olive, and Pear Pizzazz).  If you don’t have the Sponge Daubers, use a piece of a Stamping Sponge or the Aqua Painter. For the sky, I did the same with Soft Sky ink.  The coloring is not meant to be perfect as you can see, but in the end, it all looks good!  I left a bit of white at the bottom for signing the card.  If you wanted to write a note inside, I think you would have to do it on the back of the card or enclose a written letter in the envelope with the card. (Wow!  A letter!  How nice would that be to receive?!)

The card base is Crumb Cake die cut with the largest Layering Ovals Framelits Dies. For “something new” (almost like a wedding!) I used the upcoming Colorful Seasons Stamp Set and the coordinating Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies.  When the new catalog begins June 1st, you will be able to purchase the stamp set and dies as a Bundle and save 10%.  And from the samples I have seen from Demonstrators during our preorder period here in May, I think you will WANT to have this set!  I LOVE the Andirondack chair and the other lounge chair in the set. Plus there are images and dies to make projects for all four seasons. I die cut this chair out of the new Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack, a new package of papers you will want to have right away! The card still needed a little something, so I die cut some leaves and stamped with the larger stamp in the set to get the leaf veins. The greeting is in the set.

In case you were wondering, here is one of my favorite and easiest Christmas cards I have ever made! Click HERE to see my card made with Lovely As a Tree and Dazzling Diamonds Glitter!  Some of my customers have also copied and sent this card at Christmas time, too!  It’s just that easy and classic!

Remember, you have today and tomorrow to shop the current Stampin’ Up! Catalog and DON’T FORGET the Occasions Catalog!!!

I hope you were inspired by my old and new mix to make this Thinking of You Oval Window Card! Lovely As a Tree is NOT retiring, so you can order it along with your new products if you like.

Easy Graduation Card Idea for 2017

Easy Graduation Card Idea for 2017

Now that I know my niece has received her high school graduation card, I can show it to you! I got the idea online somewhere and updated it a little bit, so it really is an easy graduation card for 2017, using the Large Numbers Framelits Dies, which thankfully are not retiring this year! There are so many good graduation cards out there it was hard to narrow down my choices. Or maybe I wish I had more graduates to send cards to this year!

The front layer of this card is Whisper White Cardstock, embossed with the Lucky Stars Embossing Folder. This folder is retiring, although it is still available. I think stars are always handy to have in your stash in whatever form because they can be used to many occasions. The numbers are die cut with the Big Shot and the numbers framelits I already mentioned.  I used Gold Foil paper as well as a layer under the Whisper White.  Some gold or silver foil or glimmer paper always adds some elegance, I think!

The graduation cap is easy to make. Either you can google some tutorials on how to cut the angles or you can just cut out somewhat of a diamond shape. Then cut a little square piece for underneath and punch or cut those two little half circles like graduation caps usually have. You can make your own tassel with embroidery floss or twine, but I used a tassel from the Eastern Palace Suite. It was easier to just stick it up underneath the cap than to deal with the ring on top of the tassel which maybe should go at the center of the top of the cap. On the top of the cap I placed a Gold Faceted Gem, coming in the new catalog.

The card is just on a Basic Black card base and you can put a piece of Whisper White on the inside so you have somewhere to stamp and write a greeting.  Maybe add a strip of the Gold Foil on the inside to carry through the design.

Which do you think a graduate will appreciate more, a graduation card you handmade for them or a store bought one? I guess as long as it has money inside, they will appreciate either, but you know what I mean!!

Watercolored Die Cut Medallion Card

Watercolored Die Cut Medallion Card

Did you know you can watercolor the medallion die cuts in the Eastern Palace Suite to make a pretty card? Although the Eastern Palace Suite obviously has that Eastern design look to it, I think you can use parts of the suite to make cards and projects without that Eastern look to it by changing the colors or using just certain elements of the design. I saw an example of an Artisan Design Team member, I think from Germany, who had watercolored on Watercolor Paper and then made the Eastern Medallions die cuts into that paper without cutting them out separately. If you are on my mailing list for my Stamping With Karen newsletter then you saw the card I made like that in my newsletter.  (If you are NOT on my mailing list, please join us and sign up in the red box on the top right side of my blog today!)

Yesterday when I first began the watercoloring, which I did on Shimmery White Cardstock rather than the Watercolor Paper, I didn’t care for my first try. But since there are no mistakes in stamping, I just kept that piece and die cut this medallion you see on this card.  Instead of leaving it embedded in the paper, I snipped the tiny connecting edges to release the die cut from the paper. Then today I was able to use it on a new card!

To make this card, I used two of the new In Colors for 2017-2019, Powder Pink and Lemon Lime Twist for the card base and first layer.  For the top layer of the card, I used a piece of Whisper White and stamped just a small image from the Eastern Beauty Photopolymer Stamp Set randomly with the pink and green inks.  The card needed a little something besides just the medallion. The ribbon is the 1/2″ Finely Woven Lemon Lime Twist Ribbon.  You can tie it all the way around the backside of the card, but if you would like to save a few inches, just adhere the ends to the back of the card after stretching it across the front.

The medallion was already watercolored on Shimmery White Cardstock with my Aqua Painter and three reinkers put into the lids of the ink pads:  Powder Pink, Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst. When dry, the paper was die cut with the Big Shot and the Eastern Medallions Thinlits Dies.

The greeting is in the Eastern Beauty Stamp Set and is one I love. What a great phrase to send to people!  I stamped it with Powder Pink and die cut with the smallest circle in the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies. I wasn’t sure it would be big enough but I also didn’t want to cover up much of the pretty medallion.  Fortunately, if you work on the placement a bit, that die is just big enough! I didn’t think it even needed another layer behind it.

Remember, the Eastern Palace Suite is available in either the Starter Bundle or the Premier Bundle only until May 31.  And each Bundle has it’s own FREE GIFT! Check the lists carefully to see the contents so you get what you need.

There are lots of possibilities with this Eastern Palace Suite!  If you think this is something you like, I’d urge you to get it in the preorder before May 31 so you get the Very Vanilla free gift in each Bundle!

A Quick and Easy Card Layout For All-Occasions

A Quick and Easy Card Layout For All-Occasions

If you need a quick and easy card layout that you can use for an all-occasion card or any occasion really, this card fills the bill! Just make a card base with some matching designer series paper from Stampin’ Up!, add a greeting and you’ve got it!

To make this easy card, I started with a card base of one of the new In Colors, Powder Pink (144244). For a card base, just cut a piece of 8 1/2″ x 11″ card stock in half (5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″) and then fold in half for your card. Just for a little extra, I made a slightly smaller layer of Whisper White to go on top of the card base with a layer of the new Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper Stack (144131) on top of the white. This new paper stack is 12″ x 12″ so you will have lots of beautiful papers to use!

For a little embellishment, I tied a new ribbon, the 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon in Powder Pink (144134) around the designer paper layer before I adhered it to the Whisper White. When you add ribbon, you don’t really have to have it go all the way around the layer, just adhere the ends to the other side.

The greeting is a stamp from the Flourishing Phrases Stamp Set. This is a stamp set being carried over from last year’s catalog and I’m so glad because it is a beautiful set! You will see it in the Retiring Products section in the Bundles because all the bundles of matching stamp set and dies are retiring.  However, you will be able to purchase the stamp set and thinlits dies separately in the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog. If you want to save 10%, get the Bundle now before May 31st! To make it extra fancy, I layered the greeting, die cut from the Layering Ovals Framelits Dieson to a Powder Pink oval and then onto a scalloped oval of Silver Glimmer Paper. Then just adhere the whole layered greeting over the ribbon with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

If you don’t have a Big Shot and dies, you could just cut or punch your own greeting and layers and adhere to the card.  There is always a work-around.

When you need to make a quick and easy card, this is a layout you can use, or even if you want to make several cards at once to have on hand. Make them assembly-line fashion and you will have many cards in the same design very quickly!

Make a Cute Paper Crate With the Wood Textures Suite

Make a Cute Paper Crate With the Wood Textures SuiteSoon you will be able to make this very cute little paper crate with the Wood Textures Suite, coming in the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog! This was my first try and to put something inside, I grabbed two of my Mother’s Day chocolate covered strawberries and put them in a little bag and stuck them in the crate! The crate is small but large enough to cram two gigantic strawberries inside!

The Wood Textures Suite contains a stamp set, Wood Words, and the Wood Crate Framelits Dies plus two ribbons, cello bags and the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack. The patterns in the paper stack are all wood grain looks of various kinds on both sides of the paper, so when you have the wood grain on the outside of the crate, it will also have a similar wood grain look on the inside. The stamp set is very cute and useful with a very pretty flowery stamp for perhaps making note cards to go in the crate or even to decorate the crate.  There are quite a few words in the set to go with the crate or notecards. Lots of creative possibilities with this whole suite. The ribbon I used to tie my cello bag closed is the 1/4″ Copper Trim.  This is a real interesting ribbon because you can leave it as is, like you see at the top of my bag, or you can pull it apart to make it wider and give it a different look.  If you don’t like it, you can pull it and it will go back to its normal shape.

For some decoration on my crate, I just cut a Delicate White Doily in half and put it draped over the front and the back. If you want stamping on the crate, be sure to stamp the paper before you assemble (note to self!)!

If you are interested in Stampin’ Up! products and need a new Stampin’ Up! Catalog which will go live on June 1st, please send me your contact information and I will mail you a complimentary catalog. If you already have a Demonstrator you want to continue working with, she will have a catalog for you.

In the meantime, be sure to check out the Retiring Products and the Clearance Rack. There are some great bargains on the Clearance Rack, things you can use for upcoming holidays and other stamping projects.  But hurry, because I see there are not as many items left any more!

Eastern Palace Suite Card With Gold Stickers & Medallion Thinlits

Eastern Palace Suite Card With Gold Stickers & Medallion Thinlits

I think the two favorite things of everyone in the Eastern Palace Suite of products, an early catalog release from Stampin’ Up! during the month of May, are the Eastern Medallions Thinlits Dies and the Eastern Gold Vinyl Stickers. Instead of hoarding them (tempting!), I used the largest Gold Vinyl Sticker for the background of this medallion on this Eastern Palace Suite Card With Gold Stickers & Medallion Thinlits.

The card base is the new Tranquil Tide Cardstock, one of the new Stampin’ Up! In Colors.  It is one of three new In Colors you can get in one of the Suite Bundles, both in the ink pads and cardstock. For the card layer, I used a piece of Very Vanilla, but you could also use Whisper White.  These vinyl stickers are  high quality! They are not flimsy, they are sturdy and easy to handle…and sticky, so you want to make sure you get them in the right place! Next I cut a piece of Gold Foil to go in the center underneath the medallion die cut.

The Eastern Medallion Thinlits Dies are some of the prettiest you could have and offer so many possibilities the way they are designed.  Some cut the shape all the way out, some do not, so you have so many creative ways to use them.  And you can mix and match a lot of the pieces. The Layering Circles  Framelits Dies work great with this set.

The greeting is from another set and die cut with the Layering Oval Framelits Dies. The greeting is stamped with the Tranquil Tide Ink and the scalloped layer is a die cut piece of Gold Foil.

This was really an easy card for looking so elegant and fancy! Remember, you can choose from two bundles of new products in the Eastern Palace Suite during May, before the new catalog comes out June 1st. You also get a Very Vanilla FREE GIFT in each one!  If you are a new stamper or do not own a Big Shot (yet!), just choose the Eastern Palace Starter Bundle that comes with the NEW Very Vanilla Notecards and Envelopes as your free gift!  If you have a Big Shot, then you will surely want the Eastern Palace Premier Bundle that has the Eastern Medallion Thinlits Dies.

Be the first kid on the block to own some new Stampin’ Up! products ahead of everyone else!

Easy Birthday Card With Die Cut Greeting

Easy Birthday Card With Die Cut Greeting

This is an easy birthday card to make with a big die cut greeting on the front. One of the new products in the upcoming Stampin’ Up! Catalog is the Happy Birthday Thinlit that die cuts “Happy Birthday” all in one piece.  The designer paper is the reverse side of the paper I put on the card I made yesterday in this post. That’s all there is to this card!  So easy!

The card base is made with Pool Party cardstock, one of the coordinating colors with the Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper. I used this beautiful floral print for a layer on the card. The greeting is die cut from Calypso Coral cardstock, but I felt like it needed some kind of layer behind it.  I started with a piece of Whisper White cardstock, but that didn’t seem to be enough. Then I cut a larger layer of Calypso Coral to go behind it. Usually I don’t like the off-kelter style of layering, but somehow the layers turned out this way on this card and I liked it! Or at least I thought it was fine for this card!  That helped the die cut stand out from the busy print background without  taking away from the beautiful paper. Like I said yesterday, just keep playing with your card or project if you aren’t satisfied with it, and when you get it, you will know it!

This card could probably be further embellished in many ways, but I decided to keep it super simple and easy because we often need a birthday card in a hurry.  This one would be perfect to make under those circumstances, although it would be better to have already made up in your stash! This Happy Birthday Thinlit Die was one I had seen online and thought was very cute in the samples, so I was happy it was on the preorder list for Demonstrators and was one of the first new products I wanted to use!

When the new catalog ordering begins June 1st, check out this Happy Birthday Thinlit Die (143700) so you, too, can make some quick and easy birthday cards!

Eastern Palace Medallion Card With Gold Accents

Eastern Palace Medallion Card With Gold Accents

This Eastern Palace Medallion Card With Gold Accents is made with products in the newly released Eastern Palace Premier Bundle.  This Bundle contains products that will be in the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog coming out in June. This is your chance to get your hands on brand new Stampin’ Up! products right now while you wait for the new catalog! In face, these two Bundles that are being offered, will not have all these products bundled together in the new catalog, only the stamp set and thinlits dies.

These Bundles have so many exciting products, you will barely know where to start creating!

Let’s talk about the card I made. It starts with the card base made from the new In Color, Tranquil Tide. I originally chose two patterns of the Eastern Palace Specialty Designer Series Paper to layer on the front of the card, one on top and one on the bottom, but then I changed my mind and only used the one piece!  I took the Eastern Medallions Thinlits Dies to the Big Shot with a piece of the Tranquil Tide Cardstock just to experiment with the dies. No matter what dies you use, I’m convinced the medallions will turn out just beautiful! Since I had a scrap of Shimmery White Cardstock on the table, I used that, and that ended up being the piece I used as the focal point on the card.  It is adhered to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals snipped a little smaller to make them fit on the back of the medallion. This pops up the medallion a little bit for a nice look. Then I put another die cut piece layered on the center of that medallion. This piece the petals can be pulled up for a 3D effect if you like. The little “hello” greeting is in the Eastern Beauty Photopolymer Stamp Set, and I punched it out with the 3/4″ Circle Punch.

The Eastern Gold Vinyl Stickers are a new item in the Bundle and are going to be fun to use! They have a clear border that is cut very close to the design so they aren’t going to scream “stickers!”. You get a lot of stickers in the package.  You can see the strip of gold accents I added to the bottom the designer paper. For two more accents on the card, I folded over a small piece of the Gold 1/4″ Natural Trim.  Thankfully this ribbon is not being retired because I think it will go quite well with the Eastern Palace products! And for a little bit more bling, I used the Metallic Enamel Shapes which come with both gold and silver in the one package.  These are sticking around as well!

Here’s a close up of the focal point of the card so you can see the dimension.

Make a Birthday Gift Bag

Make a Birthday Gift BagYou might be doing some shopping this weekend, so here is how to recycle your shopping bag and make a Birthday Gift Bag. We often have these plain kraft bags in our stash at home, so use them to make nice gift bags and save a trip to the store to buy one! Even if the store name is printed on the bag, it can often be covered up with cardstock and the recipient will never know!

To decorate this small shopping bag, I used some Stampin’ Up! retiring products. The Warmth & Cheer Designer Series Paper Stack is on sale for only $4.00.  I started with wanting to use that paper.  One side of each sheet is more Christmas-y, but the other side is absolutely non-holiday. There are plaids and stars that you can use for lots of other occasions and would be useful making masculine cards.

Warmth & Cheer Paper Stack

Once I chose the star pattern to use, I picked the coordinating color Delightful Dijon Cardstock on which to layer the 6″ x 6″ piece. Since stars are great for lots of occasions like birthdays, graduations, patriotic holidays, congratulations and more, I decided to make some stars with the Stars Framelits Dies (on sale!) If you place one star framelit die inside another you can make the outline stars – and then you still have the center star that you cut out! For the stars, I also used some more of the Warmth & Cheer Paper Stack as well as some Gold Glimmer Paper.  Why not have some sparkle on a birthday gift bag??!  The greeting is stamped in Garden Green Ink with a stamp in the Big On Birthdays Photopolymer Stamp Set.

Here is a close-up of the decorated front of the gift bag.

Be sure to take a look at the Warmth & Cheer Designer Series Paper Stack on the Retirement List until May 31 or while supplies last!  You can see some baby cards I made with this paper HERE.  And if you want something to suit a lot of purposes, you might want to pick up the set of Stars Framelits Dies at a discount!  And don’t forget the Clearance Rack!

Elegant Gold Foil Botanical Blooms Card

Elegant Gold Foil Botanical Blooms Card

I thought this Elegant Gold Foil Botanical Blooms Card would be difficult to photograph, but I think it turned out better than I thought! With all the gold foil, I knew the glare from my lighting would be a problem. I think it is a surprise that this gold foil patterned paper comes in the Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper! That is why it is called “specialty” but you wouldn’t think it would be included in something called “Pop of Pink”! Somehow I came up with the idea of adding Gold Foil flowers and just making an all white and gold card.  This would be perfect for a 50 Year Golden Wedding Anniversary!

The card base is Whisper White cardstock and the paper, as I already mentioned, is the Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper. This designer paper is on the Stampin’ Up! Retiring List so be sure to check it out and order it if you are interested in case it runs out at some point. It’s even on sale! To make the flowers, I used the Botanical Builders Framelits Diesalso on the list AND on sale 50% OFF!!  I wouldn’t pass that up if you don’t already have these dies! In fact, I can’t believe these are being retired.  There is also the coordinating stamp set, Botanical Blooms, on sale and retiring, too.  The paper I used is the Gold Foil.

Now as I assembled this card and tried to place the flowers (I also cut out extras while I was at it!), it just seemed like the card needed something. I looked at some previous cards I made recently using these flowers, like this black & white cardand thought I would try adding a Gold Glimmer Paper strip to the side. I like that, and decided to just have one large gold foil flower on the card instead of more.  For one more little something, I added some pearls (retired) to the flower centers. I didn’t even add a greeting, but I can if I use the card for an occasion that needs a greeting.

If you already own some retiring designer series papers, don’t hoard them!  Get them out and use them!  Then you will be ready for the “new stuff” in a month when all the new products comes out in the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog.  You KNOW you will want the new papers and products! And if you don’t already own some of the popular papers that are retiring May 31, be sure to order what you want while it is still available.

Make an Easy Elegant Birthday Card With the Detailed Floral Thinlits Dies

Elegant Birthday Card With Detailed Floral Thinlits Dies

Make an easy elegant birthday card with the Detailed Floral Thinlits Dies for someone special! Let the Big Shot and the dies to most of the work! I am SO glad that these dies are not on the Stampin’ Up! Retiring List of products!  There are a lot more beautiful cards to be made with the Detailed Floral Thinlits Dies!

To make this easy elegant birthday card, or card for any occasion, I started with a card base of Whisper White Cardstock. If you have it, I would recommend the Whisper White Thick Cardstock which is a little sturdier than the regular cardstock. Use the Detailed Floral Thinlits Dies to cut cardstock in the color of your choice. For this card, I used the In Color Flirty Flamingo. This is the grouping for 2016-2018 that is sticking around for another year! For an embellishment, I tied around the Flirty Flamingo 3/8″ Ruched Ribbon. This ribbon, as I write this, is on sale on the Retiring Products List, not because of the color but because they are retiring the ribbon style!  I loved this type of ribbon, though.  You can get it on sale right now, while supplies last.

I stamped the greeting on Whisper White and die cut with the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies that give that little stitched look around the die cut.  I love those dies!!  Then the greeting is layered on the Layering Ovals Framelits Dies.  Click here to see a similar card I made with these beautiful dies.

When you are using the intricate dies like these Detailed Floral Thinlits Dies, you will get the best results with your Big Shot if you use the Precision Base Plate and use the Big Shot Die Brush to help get out any stubborn little pieces.

You may notice on the Retiring List that the Floral Phrases Bundle is retiring, but that just means that all Bundles in the current catalogs retire and will not be offered as bundles any more.  However, in a lot of cases you can still buy the components separately! But if you want to save 10%, get the bundles that are available before May 31 while they are available. If the two items are on sale, you might want to do the math and see which is the better deal, the separate items on sale or the 10% off Bundle!

Check out the Stampin’ Up! Retiring List of Products!

The easiest way to see the Retiring Products that are still available is to just go to my Online Store HERE.
