Sneak Peek: Sprinkles of Life Cupcake Birthday Card

Sprinkles of Life Cupcake Birthday Card

My first sneak peek from the new Stampin’ Up! catalog just had to be with the new Sprinkles of Life Stamp Set!  This set is the Ronald McDonald House Charities stamp set. With every purchase of this stamp set, Stampin’ Up! will donate $3 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities! This is such a perfect opportunity for all of us to buy something we love and will enjoy and know that we are helping an important cause.

I think this Sprinkles of Life Stamp Set is one of the best RMHC sets we’ve had. Not only that, but there is a new punch that coordinates with it to punch out some of the elements! On this card I made I punched out the frosting on the cupcakes! But could you also see the frosting as clouds?? Other similar stamps serve as leaves on a tree or a batch of flowers! But maybe they are fancy frosting designs! Lots of possibilities with this stamp set and punch!

The card base is the new In Color Watermelon Wonder.  It’s a very different red, not quite as bright or deep as I was expecting. I was determined to use the new matching 1″ Dotted Lace TrimIt is VERY soft and flexible, not stiff like you might imagine. I ran some Fast Fuse along the bottom edge of the paper on the back and just kind of gathered the lace trim and stuck it down as I went.  No fancy process, just stuck it down, trying to get it rather straight, but not perfect. The designer paper is the new Cherry on Top Designer Series Paper Stack. It’s full of bright, fun and pretty patterns, some clearly for birthday and others for any occasion whatsoever. There is also matching Washi Tape! And to decorate the cupcakes a little bit, I had to use a bit of Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, adhered with the 2-Way Glue Pen. One of my favorites!

The new catalog will be out soon, June 2nd is the big day!  But don’t forget about the outgoing stamps and accessories!  It is probably easiest to shop HERE at my Online Store where you can scroll through all the available products!  If you change the drop down box in the upper right to “Show:  ALL” you can just scroll continuously and not have to keep going to the next page and the next.

If you are one of my regular customers, local or out-of-town, I will be getting the new catalogs out as soon as they are ready. If you do not have a Demonstrator and are interested in Stampin’ Up! products, email me at Karen@KarenStamps.com and let me know you’d like a catalog. If you have been a “No Contact” customer of mine and would like a catalog, please get in touch. This means that when you placed an order with me you checked the boxes that said you did not want contact from a demonstrator. If you are interested in ordering again and want a catalog, just let me know. Otherwise, of course, the catalog will be available online on June 2nd.

Last day for these Weekly Deals, too!  Check them out if you are ordering today!

Stampin' Up! Weekly Deal May 12 2015

Wildflower Meadow Butterfly All Occasions Card

Wildflower Meadow Butterfly All Occasions Card

One of the retiring stamps is Wildflower Meadow with a matching embossing folder, Wildflower Meadow Textured Impressions Embossing FolderThey are discounted now on the Stampin’ Up! Retiring List so check them out! Wildflower Meadow is very pretty although I know I didn’t use it as often as I could have. It’s a large background stamp so I actually prefer the wood-mount verson which is a little easier to use I think.

I decided to use the Wildflower Meadow stamp in kind of a monochromatic look on this card, stamping the Crumb Cake card stock with Crumb Cake ink.  You could also use Versamark Ink for the same look. The card base is Soft Suede. I wanted to see a pretty background but I wanted a butterfly to be the focal point.

The butterfly is a piece of paper from the Gold Soiree Specialty Designer Series Paper which is so pretty with its Metallic Gold and is discounted 50% on the Stampin’ Up! Retired List also! The butterfly is die-cut with the Butterflies Thinlits Dies. I added a few Pearl Basic Jewels Embellishments for the butterfly’s body and just adhered it with a Stampin’ Dimensional (a thin scrap from the edge of the Dimensional page to fit) so the butterfly would look 3D. Then for just a little more embellishment I added a strip of Venetian Crochet Trim across the bottom.

This card could be used for almost any occasion so I decided to leave off a greeting until I need to send the card and see what I want to put on it. It certainly could be used for Mother’s Day which is coming up next Sunday, May 10, 2015. It could also be birthday, thinking of you, get well, graduation, sympathy, even a wedding card.

Go to my Stampin’ Up! Online Store now and see all the great products and certainly many discounted prices available!

Starburst Sayings Happy Day Card

Starburst Sayings Happy Day Card

Starburst Sayings is one of the stamp sets on the Stampin’ Up! Retired List that I was so surprised to see on there! It’s a fun stamp set to use and can cover many occasions from congratulations, birthdays, anniversaries, new baby, encouragement, and even weddings. All it takes is using the appropriate colors, papers and embellishments.  Dress it up or dress it down, as they say! You can use circle punches with several of the stamps if you don’t mind punching inside the starburst edges.  Use the matching Starburst Framelits Dies to use with these stamps or just paper.

The Starburst Sayings Stamp Set is discounted on the Retired List right now or you can purchase the Bundle with the stamp set and the framelits and save a little money.

Starburst Saying Stamp Set Images

Here’s another card I made awhile back with one of the other sayings:

Starburst Sayings and Retro Fresh

This card is from last year and has retired paper and trim on it, but you can easily change it with something current.  You can read that blog post HERE.

To shop for any of the Stampin’ Up! Retired products, just go to my Stampin’ Up! Online Store HERE.  You can choose Stamps or Accessories. Click the View ALL dropdown box so that you can just scroll through all the products rather than having to go to the next page and the next.

Label Love Happy Birthday Card

Label Love Happy Birthday Card

Is it really going?  Label Love Stamp Set? It’s on the Stampin’ Up! Retired List so I guess it is true. This was a set that even if I wasn’t planning to use it, the greetings were so “usable” that if I couldn’t find quite the right thing, this set would usually fill the bill.

Label Love Stamp Set

As you can see, the sentiments cover just about everything! And even better, this stamp set coordinates with the Artisan Label Punch. This punch is also retiring and is discounted. Of course it is only available while supplies last as are all the accessories. On this card, I actually cut out the stamped label and then punched out a piece of Coastal Cabana card stock for the layer behind it. You could also color the edge of the stamped image and punch out and it would look like a layer. To make the label stand out a little bit, I punched a piece of Tangerine Tango with the 1 3/4″ Circle Punch.

The card base is So Saffron with a Whisper White layer on which I have adhered Retro Fresh This and That Washi Tape for a little background.  I wound up some Coastal Cabana Thick Baker’s Twine to put behind the label, which is kind of “in style” now. For the little bow, I took some White Baker’s Twine and used my Coastal Cabana Stampin’ Write Marker to just put some stripes on the baker’s twine to make it match my project. For a little pizzazz for this birthday card, I punched some stars with the star punch in the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack out of the Champagne Glimmer Paper.

I think almost everything I used on this card is retiring so be sure to check the list and availability. Don’t wait too long because you never know what or when something will sell out. Stamps, however, will be available throughout most of May.

Here are the lists again. If Stampin’ Up! has updated the availability, you will see an X in the last column meaning it is no longer available.

Flower Patch Spring Birthday Card & Last Day Free Shipping!!

Flower Patch Spring Birthday Card

I’ve been thinking about making a flowery spring card. When I found this Whisper White card base with the Daffodil Delight layer already adhered and mixed in with the card stock, it became the start of the card I was going to make. Since the Brights Backgrounds Designer Series Paper Stack was already out on the table, I just used that for another layer and thought the spring flowers and leaves from the Flower Patch Photopolymer Stamp Set would make the perfect spring card. After you stamp some flowers, you can use the Big Shot and the Flower Fair Framelits Dies to cut the pieces out.  The Flower Fair Framelits Dies are on sale until Monday on the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals!

Paper Pumpkin Sew You Kit Cards

Paper Pumpkin Sew You Kit Cards

With each Paper Pumpkin Kit, the papercrafting kit that comes to you in the mail once a month, you can choose the make the project, whatever it might be, exactly as described or you can change up the design and perhaps add some extra materials of your own. This kit for March, Sew You, comes with little prepunched cards all ready for some embroidery! If you’ve never picked up a needle and thread (or it has been awhile!), the instructions with the kit tell you how to do it. It’s very simple. You can even change up the stitching if you like, as I did on the middle Thank You card. On the bottom card, I cut one of the black and white card bases in half and used that as a layer on top of my own Coastal Cabana card stock to which I added some Daffodil Delight Seam Binding Ribbon. The little acrylic stickers come with the kit. They are a fun little accent to add to the card!

Once you are a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, you can purchase any past kits that are available or any refills for the kits. Maybe you want to make more or maybe you missed a kit that you would like to have. The refill kits come with just the supplies, not the stamp set, so you might have to supplement with your own stamps and greetings but that shouldn’t be so difficult.

If you haven’t made your kit yet, here is a GREAT way to thread the needle without fighting with the multiple strands in the thread.  Just take a piece of paper, folded in half that will fit through the eye of the needle.  Lay the end of your thread inside the folded paper and insert through the needle. Your thread goes through easily and perfectly! I love it! There are all kinds of threading gadgets, but this tiny piece of paper worked great!

A Foxy Birthday Card

A Foxy Birthday Card

There’s a lot behind this foxy birthday card using the stamp set Life in the Forest. I got the idea from a couple of samples I found online and I was pleased when it all came together. I made it for my sister-in-law who had a little problem with several sightings of a fox on the playground last summer at the preschool where she works. She set a trap for it but never caught anything, and the fox must have wandered off into the woods from whence he came and was never seen again, at least not at preschool! So of course we’ve had to tease her a little bit about the fox!

I stamped the fox with Memento Black Ink and colored with Blendabilities Markers and cut out with my Paper Snips. The “grass” is made from torn Old Olive card stock with some grass cut with the Fringe Scissors. I stamped the trees on designer paper and cut them out so I could adhere them around on the card. Some cutting but no coloring involved! The quote from the fox is from the stamp set Just Sayin’The saying at the top of the card I wrote on the computer and printed out. Too bad there wasn’t a stamp! The background of the card layer is Soft Sky with some clouds sponged in with White Craft Ink. Just punch out a scallop circle and use that to sponge the edges to get the puffy cloud look. And the fox has a little Rhinestone Jewel for his nose.

Here is the inside of the card:

Fox Birthday Card inside

Since the Blendabilities Markers would bleed through the Whisper White card stock I made a layer for inside the card and stamped and colored on that.  And sponged a little Soft Sky ink in the background for a sky.

It was a fun card to make! I love how we can make almost anything one way or another with Stampin’ Up! products!

Chocolate Inspiration Card

Chocolate Box

How about some chocolate inspiration for a card?  My daughter gave me this box of chocolates for Christmas (I know, you can’t believe I haven’t eaten it all by now!) but it is almost too cute to eat! At least it is so colorful that I enjoy looking at it on the counter. The other day I thought, those colors would make a good card! So this is my chocolate inspiration card below:

Chocolate Inspiration Card

I just matched up some colors of card stock to the wrappers in the candy box.  They didn’t have to be perfect but I was going for the look. I wanted to stamp just a fun greeting at the bottom, so I chose “Yippee-Skippee!” from the Yippee-Skippee Stamp Set. Just imagine the different greetings you could put on this same card!

I thought the top portion needed a little something, and then I noticed the candy box had some multi-colored twine wrapped around it! That was perfect! I just grabbed some Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine and wrapped it around. I like it!

So you never know where your inspiration can come from!  It can come from anywhere, not just a card website or magazine or something only stamping related. It might be a canned goods label in your pantry, a pillow at the store, a dress or scarf in a magazine, a map in an atlas – anything!

Don’t forget to take advantage of Sale-A-Bration so you’ll have even more stamps and supplies with which to make your gorgeous creations when inspiration strikes! Just purchase $50 in Stampin’ Up! products and choose a free Sale-A-Bration item FREE!

Alter a Shopping Gift Bag for a Birthday Bag

Altered Birthday Gift Bag

The other day I bought a birthday gift for a friend in a nice gift shop and got this pretty shopping bag. I wanted to create a large design to cover the store label on the front and back of the bag so I altered the shopping bag and turned it into a birthday gift bag! Since I needed a large design, I chose the Labels Collection Framelits Dies for the background. I also added a banner underneath from the Best Year Ever Designer Series Paper. You can choose a pack of this paper FREE during Stampin’ Up! Sale-A-Bration with a $50 purchase.

Next I needed a large stamp set for the design so I pulled out the Big News Stamp Set.  I stamped the greeting and put a birthday candle on each side of it.  I also stamped the “Woohoo” and cut it out by hand to add to the label. Everything was colored in with Blendabilities Markers, not so much for the blending opportunity but just because I love the feel of coloring with those markers!

There was some printing along a band at the bottom of the bag so I simply embossed a strip of Whisper White with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder to adhere over the printing.

Since there was also some store printing on the back of the bag, I also covered the back to match.  I liked the saying in the stamp set “Enjoy the fuss.”  Great saying for enjoying one’s birthday!

Make a Chalkboard Paper Birthday Card

Chalkboard Birthday Card

I’ve said before one of my favorite things in the world, perhaps becoming obsolete, is a chalkboard, and this Chalkboard Paper Birthday Card gives me a chance to sort of play with a chalkboard again. Two new products in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog are the Chalkboard Paper and the ColorBox Chalk Ink Pads. The color of Chalk Ink I used is Rose Coral. I cut the Chalkboard Paper 2″ wide so that I could use the Tag Topper Scalloped Punch and the stamps fit just fine. Using the clear-mount stamps means you can place two stamps you want to use on one larger block and stamp them both at the same time. This stamp set, Big Day, is available as a FREE product earned during Sale-A-Bration with a $50 purchase of Stampin’ Up! merchandise! The background paper, layered on Coastal Cabana card stock as the card base, is also available FREE during Sale-A-Bration. It is called Best Year Ever Designer Series Paper #138633. For a little added glitz and to complement the “bokeh” design of the background paper, I punched various sizes of circles from the Silver Glimmer Paper and put a little bow on top of the tag with the new Painted Blooms Cotton Twine (3-pack) in the Occasions Catalog.

It is recommended that you purchase the refill for the Chalk Ink right away because your pad needs to be juicy for it to stamp well.

If you need any stamping supplies, please visit my Stampin’ Up! Store. And be sure to check the new deals below!

Here are the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals for January 13 – 19, 2015.  As usual, some good things I would recommend and would buy myself (if I didn’t already own them!). Small as they are, I use the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack a lot. One thing I don’t own is the Angled Tag Topper Punch, which I might have to consider now that it is on sale. I know the ribbon is beautiful.Stampin' Up! Weekly Deal Jan 13 2015

Top Note Package Chalkboard Tag

Top Note Package Tag

I got this idea from one of the many store ads I have gotten in the mail recently, and I thought it was so cute! The chalkboard style is still “in”, which I love, so I made a package tag with the Top Note Die to look like a chalkboard! Hasn’t the Top Note Die been just about the most versatile die to ever use?! I wrapped the package in the Stampin’ Up! Festive Designer Kraft Paper Roll (on the Clearance Rack!) and tied the Cherry Cobbler 1″ Sheer Linen Ribbon around. Then I die cut the Top Note tag and wrote on it with my White Stampin’ Chalk MarkerEasy, fun, and works for anybody.  If you don’t own the Top Note Die, just use a piece of Basic Black Card Stock that’s not die cut! The kraft wrapping paper you can use any time.

This morning Stampin’ Up! added new items to the Year-End Closeout Clearance Rack so be sure to check those out!

Make Your Own Gift Bag

Sweater Weather Fall Gift Bag

Make your own personally designed gift bag by decorating a regular shopping bag you probably received at the store yourself, or you can buy plain sacks at the craft store. For this bag, I used the retired designer paper Sweater Weather from last year because it matched the gift that was going inside. If you want to see the Thanksgiving banner I made that went in this bag, look back at this post. I even used a couple embellishments leftover from a Paper Pumpkin kit. I added some Neutrals Designer Buttons tied with some Linen Thread and adhered with Mini Glue Dots.

Here’s a tip dealing with buttons like this – put the thread through and then adhere the button to the bag with the Glue Dot.  THEN tie the bow or the knot because now it is stuck on to something and won’t be flipping all over the place while you try to tie it!

I tied a piece of Natural 5/8″ Chevron Ribbon on to the handle of the bag. It seemed to match perfectly. The leaves and pumpkin were stamped and adhered to the bag.

Stamp some tissue paper that will go inside, too!

It’s so much fun to be able to make a personalized gift and gift bag with just your stamping supplies!

Stampin’ Up! has many packaging supplies available now for purchase in the Stampin’ Up! Online Store or you can probably find boxes and things around your house.  Use some of your older papers and scraps to decorate and embellish!

Calling All Heroes Birthday Card

Calling All Heroes Birthday Card

This was a pretty easy birthday card to make for my son with the Circle Card Thinlits Die and the Calling All Heroes Photopolymer Stamp Set. I love that stamp set. You might think I didn’t get the buildings stamped very well on the front of the card and you might possibly be right – except for the fact that I read where another demo didn’t get her stamp on the block right and stamped something similar to what I did here.  But instead of calling it a mistake, she thought it made the buildings look rather hazy so she just called it a new technique! My “new technique” goes even farther, as you can see almost all of the buildings look as if they are in a haze or mist, which often happens around here in Houston. It almost gives a romantic look to the city skyscrapers! So I just have another look to my city skyline stamping!  Ha!

And with the Calling All Heroes Stamp Set, you can customize your characters!  You can stamp different heads and disguises to make them heroes or villains! I think it is a fun stamp set to play with! Great for girls or boys, children or adults!

Here is the inside of the card, stamped with a greeting from the Hey You Stamp Set. The stars are punched with the star punch in the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.
