Better Late Than Never: Making the April Paper Pumpkin Kit

Better late than never! I finally sat down to do my April 2015 Paper Pumpkin Kit – before my May Kit arrives. Not that it matters WHEN you do your kit, just that you enjoy it!

First off, I was excited to see that the little pocket folders already had adhesive tape applied! The first one I folded wrong, with those flaps showing on the outside on the back – not that it matters, but then I figured out that they probably go on the inside and I just needed to fold them to the inside first. I made a few bows and attacked the belly bands. Glad Stampin’ Up! is supplying some glue dots and dimensionals to use! Everything is right there! Well, I did need scissors to cut the baker’s twine to tie through the little hole at the top!

Then I started stamping my little white cards – great choices in stamps to choose from! I sloppily stamped a few, set an inked stamp down on the colored card, smudged one white card front and back, and dropped my iPhone in the ink pad! Otherwise, it all was great! It’s always a good idea to clean your photopolymer stamps first, ink them up and stamp several times on scrap paper, just to get them kind of conditioned in case there is any residue on them from manufacturing. If you don’t get a good impression you might be able to use a Stampin’ Write Marker or a Blender Pen and ink to lightly fill in the less than perfect portions.

There are some great alternate ideas for making this kit. I needed “Thank You” cards so I made those. I’ll have to see what materials I have left and see what else I can make. Stampin’ Up! is pretty generous with supplies in these kits and sometimes you can even use the scraps for making projects!

I’ve been thinking about making a flowery spring card. When I found this Whisper White card base with the Daffodil Delight layer already adhered and mixed in with the card stock, it became the start of the card I was going to make. Since the Brights Backgrounds Designer Series Paper Stack was already out on the table, I just used that for another layer and thought the spring flowers and leaves from the Flower Patch Photopolymer Stamp Set would make the perfect spring card. Paper Pumpkin Sew You Kit Cards

With each Paper Pumpkin Kit, the papercrafting kit that comes to you in the mail once a month, you can choose the make the project, whatever it might be, exactly as described or you can change up the design and perhaps add some extra materials of your own. This kit for March, Sew You, comes with little prepunched cards all ready for some embroidery! If you’ve never picked up a needle and thread (or it has been awhile!), the instructions with the kit tell you how to do it. It’s very simple. You can even change up the stitching if you like, as I did on the middle Thank You card. On the bottom card, I cut one of the black and white card bases in half and used that as a layer on top of my own Coastal Cabana card stock to which I added some Daffodil Delight Seam Binding Ribbon. The little acrylic stickers come with the kit. They are a fun little accent to add to the card!

Once you are a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, you can purchase any past kits that are available or any refills for the kits. Maybe you want to make more or maybe you missed a kit that you would like to have. The refill kits come with just the supplies, not the stamp set, so you might have to supplement with your own stamps and greetings but that shouldn’t be so difficult.

If you haven’t made your kit yet, here is a GREAT way to thread the needle without fighting with the multiple strands in the thread. Just take a piece of paper, folded in half that will fit through the eye of the needle. Lay the end of your thread inside the folded paper and insert through the needle. Your thread goes through easily and perfectly! I love it! There are all kinds of threading gadgets, but this tiny piece of paper worked great!

Paper Pumpkin Leftovers: Make an Easter Treat!

If you don’t use up all the materials in your monthly Paper Pumpkin Kit, just save them and you might come up with alternate ideas in the future. Here I used extra supplies from my February Paper Pumpkin Kit to make an Easter treat! The kit contained these cello bags, the foldover tags for the bag topper, the cute clip, the pretty pink and gold baker’s twine, and the little banner tags. I stamped the Easter greeting with a stamp from Teeny Tiny Wishes (a must have word stamp set in my opinion!).

Then just add a cute bunny to the foldover tag! While that tag was used for Valentine treats as designed, it CERTAINLY is pretty for Easter – pink and gold! The punch art bunny is just made from the Small Oval Punch, the 3/4″ Circle Punch, and the Petite Petals Punch. Two of the petals from that punch make cute ears – just cut off the extra petals so you have enough to glue to the bunny head. The little pink bunny tail is made with a retired punch but you can use something similar. And top it off with a Basic Pearl Jewel Embellishment.

I saw this new So You Project Kit in the Occasions Catalog on page 48 but honestly it wasn’t on top of my wish list – until I saw Sara Douglass on stage at the Stampin’ Up! Leadership Conference last week show the album she made of her daughter and her friends out on a special date. I think they were going to make one for each of the friends! Then I watched the video shown below by Stampin’ Up! talking about this So You Project Kit album and saw how many things that are included, not to mention examples for each page IN COLOR that you could use – but certainly do not have to. The album holds 4″ x 4″ photos so you could get your Instagram photos printed to keep in this album! It’s the perfect size for a trip or a party or a shower or a new baby or graduation, certainly any occasion or holiday. Or just start it in a generic way and when you get a special photo, just stick it in there! On the catalog page, be sure to check out the extra supplies you might want to have on hand and the coordinating stamp set you could use. Of course, depending on your use, you might already have stamp sets you can use with it. Even if your photos are 4 x 6, they can be cropped to fit, most likely. I think it looks like a fun album and I’m putting it on my order!

It may be cold, dark and rainy outside today, but inside it’s fun and happy making the cards in the December Paper Pumpkin Kit! The colors are cheery and the cards just brighten up the afternoon! All this star confetti plus turquoise-colored sequins make a shaker card using a window sheet adhered in a frame using long dimensionals provided in the kit so the confetti has room to move around inside. You get to make 3 Thank You cards, 3 Happy Birthday cards , and 3 Hello cards! What a helpful and happy kit to have to start off the New Year! All supplies are included, even the toothpick!! In other kits you may need to provide your own adhesive.
