Nests of Winter Thinking of You Birds Card

Nests of Winter Thinking of You Birds Card

I’ve been playing with this upcoming suite that will be in the Holiday Mini Catalog in September after making some cards at a virtual Stampin’ Up! event for Demonstrators. I’m a little surprised at how much I like this Nests of Winter Suite Collection.

To make this card, I slightly copied one of the three cards we made at the virtual Creativity Now event using this diecut frame. The card base is Crumb Cake but I completely covered it with a 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ piece of the Nests of Winter Designer Series Paper. I tried several different papers, but I needed something not too busy for the background.

To make the frame, I chose Shady Spruce cardstock. Garden Green would have been another good choice. The other day I just placed the frame die haphazardly on a piece of cardstock and diecut it. I wasn’t thinking that it needed to be straight and that actually, it is better to cut the piece of cardstock in the size of the rectangle you want and then center the die inside that piece. The die itself does not cut out the border. On this card, I popped up the leafy frame with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The birds are stamped from the Winterly Tree Tops Stamp Set with Memento ink and colored in with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. I almost used Watercolor Pencils as we did on a couple of cards we made at Creativity Now. I used the Winterly Tree Tops Dies to cut out these two birds. You will be able to purchase both stamp set and dies in a Bundle. I popped up the birds, also, on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The greeting is in the Winterly Tree Tops Stamp Set but I only used a portion of the stamp. I chose to use the Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker to ink up just the words on the stamp I wanted to use. I stamped on Basic White, then diecut this banner shape using the Stylish Shapes Dies. It was the perfect size for this card.

One of the embellishments in the Suite is the Earth Tones Shimmer Gems. These are so pretty, not too bulky, and come in different colors. I used five of these whitish gems to place randomly around the birds. I think they are really pretty and add just a touch of sparkle! You will like these for fall cards and projects, not to mention the holidays.

This is a sneak peek and I know it’s hard to wait when you see things you like but can’t buy yet! But I do like this Suite and think you will, too.

Have You Seen the Circus Celebration Kit in the Kits Collection?

Circus Celebration Kit

If you or someone you know loves the circus, this Circus Celebration Kit in the Stampin’ Up! Kits Collection is the kit for you or them! I think this is one of the cutest circus themes I have seen! What child (or adult!) could not be super-excited to receive this card in the mail for their birthday or whatever occasion you want it to be? Years ago Stampin’ Up! sold circus-themed designer series paper, maybe a stamp set, that was very cute. I remember my daughter being home for a visit and made a scrapbook page for a friend with the paper. We no longer have that, but now you can purchase this Circus Celebration Kit and think about circus days while you make the cards!

Make magical birthday cards with the Circus Celebrations Kit! This DIY card-making kit has all the pieces you need to create four birthday cards in two circus-themed designs with adorable animals doing tricks for your audience. The playful designs are perfect to celebrate birthdays for all ages. This stamp-free kit makes it even easier to craft than most, so it’s great for beginners!

Hurricane Beryl!!

Hurricane Beryl

Morning Update! We made it through the night! Woke up at 4 am to strong wind gusts and rain on and off. Power went off at 6 am. Hubby just got wifi back up for a few minutes with our backup thing. It felt like the storm was over a little while ago but right this minute it is REALLY gusting! Lots of tree branches down in the yard. I think we still will get a lot of rain this afternoon, but at least Beryl is moving through. With no power I can’t watch TV and find out everything that is going on but we have a radio on.

****************

Hurricane Beryl is on it’s way to our house. We’ve been preparing all day and this is what the radar looks like as I go to bed (perhaps for only a couple hours). A few days ago, it was just supposed to go into Mexico and I wasn’t even paying attention. Then it was going to possibly go into the southernmost part of Texas. Then it might get closer to Houston…..and now the eye is likely to go over our area with very gusty winds, lots of rain, and possible/likely power outages. Sounds like fun, right?!

I’m posting this now just in case I don’t have power or wifi tomorrow! Or for a few days!

Goodnight!

Attention Shoppers Gift Bags Birthday Card

Attention Shoppers Gift Bags Birthday Card

Yesterday I posted a card using the Attention Shoppers Bundle and today I have another one to show you another way to use the stamp set. This Attention Shoppers Gift Bags Birthday Card is one you can make without the cute shopping cart but using the stamps only.

This is also a lesson in making your own designer paper! Just stamp your own background! I always like doing random stamping like this. It just feels good to stamp and stamp and stamp over and over again! Sometimes you develop a nice rhythm to it!

This card starts with a Bubble Bath cardstock card base. Instead of using the cart stamps or dies, I made a birthday card by stamping the gift bags with Memento Ink all over the piece of Basic White which would be the front of the card. I used the Attention Shoppers Stamp Set and of course, if you want the coordinating dies, it’s a good deal to buy the Attention Shoppers Bundle and save 10%. I colored in the bags and tissue paper with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers but I could have used Watercolor Pencils or reinkers and the Water Painters. I used all sorts of colors of markers so use whatever you like!

The birthday greeting is in the stamp set also. I stamped it in Bubble Bath ink on a thin strip of Basic White and layered it on a piece of Bubble Bath cardstock. Only took me about five tries to get it right! I either cut it too close to the words or I didn’t cut the layer right or I put the flagged end on the wrong end! For some embellishment and sparkle, I added three Iridescent Faceted Gems.

This was a fun card to make with all the stamping and coloring. If you don’t want to do any coloring, stamp all the bags one color to match the card base…or stamp them in different colors but just don’t color them! Here is the card I made yesterday with this Attention Shoppers Bundle.

Attention Shoppers Cart Card

Attention Shoppers Cart Card

I hope you and your family had a Happy 4th of July last night! We went to a place close by to see fireworks that is easy to get to and get back home. For many years we have gone to see fireworks with the same couple in our neighborhood so it’s a lot of fun!

Now that the fireworks are over, you might be going shopping for 4th of July sales the rest of the weekend! I think the Attention Shoppers Bundle is a fun one! I love making the shopping cart! I have friends who LOVE to shop so I thought this Attention Shoppers Cart Card would be a fun card to send!

The card base I chose is Coastal Cabana. I don’t use this pretty color often enough. For a fun look to the card, I added a strip of the Full of Life Designer Series Paper which has so many pretty colors in it and fun designs. This strip is 2″ x 5 1/2″.

For the card’s focal point, I cut a Deckled Rectangle out of Basic White on which to place the shopping cart. If you remember, it’s a good idea to use Adhesive Sheets before you cut out the shopping cart and wheels. Just apply it to the back of the cardstock and then die-cut. It’s like making your diecut into a sticker so you don’t have to try to put glue in tiny areas. I used Silver Foil for the cart but you could use cardstock as well.

This is one of those stamp sets that is just fun to play with and create your own scene. The Attention Shoppers Stamp Set has five images you can stamp and then customize them for your card. You get a shopping bag, a bottle (of wine? soda? ), a plant, a bunch of flowers, and a birthday cake. With the Attention Shoppers Dies, you can cut out the pieces!

After coloring and diecutting your “purchases” you need to figure out their placement and see how they “fit” in the shopping cart. Glue those items down first and then the cart over them. I put the plant on the bottom rack of the cart just as you might do in the store when your cart gets full. The greeting is in the stamp set. I stamped it in Coastal Cabana ink and diecut with a rectangle in the Nested Essentials Dies. To help it stand out against the white cardstock, I ran a Melon Mambo Stampin’ Blend marker around the edge to look like a layer. The greeting is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

As I looked through my embellishments, I liked these Adhesive Backed Hearts & Flowers (retired) for the cute little hearts, perfect for someone who loves shopping!

Playing In the Rain 4th of July Card

Playing In the Rain 4th of July Card

It’s almost time for the 4th of July so here is a Playing In the Rain 4th of July Card to celebrate! The little guys in the Playing In the Rain Stamp Set are having fun watching the fireworks, not playing in the rain this day! It’s always fun to make up a little scene with stamp sets and dies that work that way!

Although I can’t believe it is July already (unless I walk out my back door into the heat!), I do enjoy the 4th of July, especially seeing the fireworks! I thought it would be fun to make a card with the characters in this stamp set. The gray rabbit on the left is the “correct” one. The brown rabbit on the right is stamped in reverse! I stamped him on my Silicone Craft Sheet. Then I laid down my Basic White piece of paper over the top of the stamped image, rubbed the back of the cardstock, and lifted it up. Then I had a bunny facing the other way! The image was almost as good quality as stamping it directly on paper. The gray fox in the center is stamped normally on Basic White like the gray rabbit.

I colored in the animals with my favorite, the Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers, then cut them out with the Playing In the Rain Dies. The one I stamped in reverse I just cut out by hand. I also cut away the umbrella and puddle because, as I said, it’s not a rainy day this time! The die set has other fun dies like the bridge, the tree stump, and the grass. I cut those out and played with the placement until I had everything just right. The two bunnies are popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Although I don’t have any official “fireworks” stamps, I made some with dies in the Merriest Trees Dies. I used some red glimmer paper I had in my stash from a previous catalog, some white glimmer paper, and gold foil. A couple of them I doubled up. You may have other stamps or dies that you could use to make fireworks if you look! Also, the card base is Real Red with a Pool Party layer for the background. Just a fun card to make to celebrate the 4th of July coming up on Thursday!

Happy July!

Simply Zinnia Diecut Thank You Card

Simply Zinnia Diecut Thank You Card

Sometimes when stamping and die-cutting pieces to make a card, I might die-cut extras because I’m not exactly sure what I will use or because I don’t use all that I thought I needed. These extra pieces continue to end up in a little pile on my table until I maybe sort them out or at least move them to another container. They might even need to be dusted by then! Yesterday some of these ready-to-go pieces were turned into this Simply Zinnia Diecut Thank You Card. It’s almost like having your own package of miscellaneous ephemera to choose from!

This card base is Melon Mambo cardstock and layered with an embossed piece of Basic White using the Layered Florals 3D Embossing Folder. I had a smaller Deckled Circle diecut in Melon Mambo in my little pile, but I needed a larger one so this one on the card is new. The zinnias were already stamped from the Simply Zinnia Stamp Set and colored in with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. During the Bundle Sale for a couple more days, you can get the Simply Zinnia Bundle at a discount until Sunday, June 30th. I just added some of the extra leaf die-cuts that were in my pile of extras around the sides of my zinnias for some greenery even though they aren’t zinnia leaves! The dark green leaves on the right are from the Citrus Blooms Dies, the long light green leaves on each side are from the Painted Lavender Dies, and the other may be from a retired set.

The greeting is new and stamped in Melon Mambo ink from the Simply Said Stamp Set. It is die cut with an angled die in the Something Fancy Dies. The zinnias and the greeting are popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. I didn’t add any embellishments but some sparkly gems like the Iridescent Foil Gems would be very pretty on this card.

Remember, the Stampin’ Up! Bundle Sale comes to an end on Sunday, June 30th! If you want to save a little money on Bundles consisting of stamp set and dies, this is the time to order. Or if you don’t have a Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine or would like one of the Mini ones (White or Boho Blue) you can save 10% on one of the machines.

Next time you are stamping or diecutting, make a few extra pieces to have on hand in case you need a little extra something making a card or project or if you just want to have fun designing a card with the scraps and “homemade ephemera” you have on hand!

Wintery Tree Tops Sneak Peek!

Wintery Tree Tops Creativity Now Trio

Saturday was a fun day of stamping with Stampin’ Up!….virtually! It was a special event for Demonstrators called Creativity Now and we got sneak peeks of new products coming in the next Holiday Mini Catalog (the September-December Mini). We got to stamp along with other Demonstrators showcasing their projects during this event and saw extra samples they made plus some other bonus ideas. The Bundle they used is called Winterly Tree Tops, a stamp set and dies. This Bundle is part of a Suite called the Nests of Winter Suite Collection. The Suite has the Bundle, an embossing folder, colored linen thread, designer paper, and gems! I’m not sure if I would have chosen this Bundle in the catalog, but I enjoyed using it to make the cards in the photo above and look forward to much more stamping with it.

I made the three cards during the virtual event, but I did not have the Scalloped Gift Card Boxes that one Demonstrator used for her project nor did I have the Metallics Enamel Effects which she smeared on top of the gift card box for a copper background underneath the foliage she added on the top. It was very pretty and not difficult to make. I think I’ll be putting those on my next order!

We also got to hear Stampin’ Up! concept artists and other employees talk about how they develop these new products for us! It’s a much more involved process than you might assume. I always enjoy any behind-the-scenes information!

Even though this Suite will be in the Holiday Mini, you can use this Bundle and Suite year-round. Obviously, the birds can be any colors you like, and the greetings in the stamp set are perfect for using a lot! If some of the designer papers look too holiday-ish, you can turn them over to the other side for a generic pattern that you can use any time.

I didn’t have the Flat-Backed Adhesive Pearls that they used so I just added some Iridescent Foil Gems on two of my cards. We colored some of the birds with Stampin’ Blends and some with Watercolor Pencils! I hadn’t used my Watercolor Pencils in quite a while so that was fun to be reminded to use those. They were some of my favorite tools way back when I started as a Demonstrator with Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils and Blender Pens were quite the thing! They are still great to use!

On the Sending Thanks card, we learned a way to use the center piece cut out from that leafy frame die to use as a stencil, instead of throwing it in the trash, to make the frame with ink! It was fun to learn some new ideas!

I hope these cards give you a little peek into what is coming sooner than we think in the Holiday Mini Catalog! The Holiday Mini and all the crafting that goes on from fall through Christmas is like the Olympics for stampers, right?! Get ready!

Fully Flowering Ephemera Card

Fully Flowering Ephemera Card

Something new in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog are these Ephemera Packs! I decided to use a couple of the precut pieces to make this Fully Flowering Ephemera Card. It only takes a few minutes, and you can still add your personalization to the card. There are four different package choices to make cardmaking or scrapbooking quick and easy! Check them out on page 19 in the Annual Catalog or online.

If you want to make cardmaking very easy you can purchase a set of five cards and five envelopes. There are two different styles and will go with any of the ephemera packs. With these cards, you don’t even have to choose which colors of cardstock to use. They are ready to go and the envelopes are decorated and match the cards.

For my card today, I chose these flower images from the Fully Flowering Ephemera Pack. The front image of two pink flowers, leaves, and green strawberries is one image and the extra pink flower at the top is another one. These floral elements in this pack are laser-cut to look like die-cut pieces. Just punch them out and adhere to your card or project. You get 8 sheets, 2 each of 4 different designs. Each sheet is 5″ x 7″. There are over a dozen colors that coordinate with this Fully Flowering Pack. A few of the images are not colored in so you can use those as they are or color them in yourself.

I chose a Pretty In Pink Cardstock card base with a layer of Basic White cut a little smaller than usual at 3 3/4″ x 5″. I thought the background needed “something” so I chose to “splatter” some Pretty In Pink ink on the Basic White. My splattering skills needed a little practice but really, you can’t go wrong with splattering! I just added some Pretty In Pink reinker into the lid of the ink pad and picked it up with some water using the Water Painter. Then I tapped the Water Painter against my Take Your Pick Tool to make the ink splatter.

The large image of the two pink flowers is popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the extra pink flower is just adhered flat on the card with Stampin’ Seal. The greeting is in the Saying Something Ephemera Pack. I also added a few Iridescent Rhinestone Jewels, which are retired, but I am going to use mine anyway. They are good for adding a little sparkle without showing off too much with color. If you want to use something in the Annual Catalog I would suggest the Iridescent Foil Gems or the Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

Both of these ephemera packs that I used on this card are back ordered but will be in stock again soon! the Saying Something Pack is due the week of July 1 and the Fully Flowering Pack is due the week of July 8. You can always check sooner because some things come in a little ahead of the date.

Don’t think these Ephemera Packs are limited to cardmaking! They can be used for scrapbook pages, too, or even other projects such as home decor, maybe in a framed piece. The sky is the limit!
