A Glitter Mess!

Yesterday I was working on these albums for someone for their Disney pictures and autographs, and while I know glitter is messy, I added to it by seeming to spill or knock over everything I touched, from a container of eyelets to every jar of glitter!  But it all came out fine in the end!  I made these monogram tags to go on each album and put a border of Chunky Glitter on each one.  That worked fine, but when I did the chipboard stars, the glitter looked a little sparse.  Then I found the Fine Cosmo Glitter in my drawer and sprinkled (or spilled!) that on to fill in the tiny spaces.  That did the trick!  Never can have too many jars of glitter around!  Here are some photos of my mess and the albums!

Houston Snow on My Digital Studio

SnowPage-001

Copyright Stampin' Up! 2009

My Digital Studio makes it easy to make up a scrapbook page to commemorate a special event, such as when we get snow in Houston, TX!

It snowed like crazy all day yesterday, and at our house we probably had an inch of snow. I think our big tree in the front yard kept the snow from falling on most of the yard.  So in the end, the big snow doesn't really look like much, especially if you are from somewhere up north!  But for Houston, it was quite the excitement!  The temperature even dropped to 26 degrees last night so this morning it was real wintery weather!  The car had to be started early to warm up, the ice scraped off the windows, and just to make it real, three of the four car doors were frozen shut!  Although we were lucky the roads had a little bit of time to dry before the freeze hit and that the road crews had had time to prepare, there still were a few icy spots, enough to cause a few accidents this morning.

However, we were not kept from getting our son downtown to his appointed exam at 8:00 AM…luckily!  We could have worried that he would get sick with the flu on this date or that we would have so much rain the streets would be flooding, but we NEVER would have guessed that we would worry about SNOWY ICY ROADS!

Be sure to click on the link for MY DIGITAL STUDIO to learn more and see how you could be making scrapbook pages and other papercrafting projects after a snowy day!

Shelli Gardner on TODAY today!!

It was way too brief, but at least she was on there!!  Shelli Gardner, Cofounder and CEO of Stampin' Up!, appeared on the TODAY Show this morning for Stampin' Up!'s donation of stamping and papercrafting supplies to the Holiday Toy and Gift Drive.  Unfortunately, she had to share the spot with another contributor, and obviously the TODAY Show did not appreciate the talent and star power of Shelli Gardner!!  They really need to invite her back for a papercrafting segment on the show and find out what a spectacular person and company they had in their midst with Shelli and Stampin' Up!

Here is a link in case you missed it!  WATCH IT

I Am Certified in My Digital Studio!!

MDScertified_aboutmephoto As you probably already know, My Digital Studio is a new software program from Stampin' Up! that allows you to create digital projects such as cards, scrapbook pages, photo albums, calendars, and multimedia.  It has gotten rave reviews from stampers who have been able to design cards in just a few minutes or fill a digital scrapbook full of photos in a short time, and they are loving the beautiful calendars they have created.  You can see a couple of my projects HERE, HERE, and HERE.

I am now "certified" in My Digital Studio after completing the training provided by Stampin' Up! and have earned the "badge" you see here in this post!  That means I will be able to help you become competent using My Digital Studio when you purchase it.  It comes with nearly 2,000 elements for you to use in your projects, and already there are additional downloads available for purchase. Once your project is complete you can send it off to the professional Stampin' Up! printer, print it yourself on your home printer, or send it to a printer of your choice.  You can also add your own ribbon and embellishments or stamping once you have your project printed if you prefer the "hybrid" look!  I'm sure we are only at the beginning of this great adventure as more and more stampers learn new ways to use My Digital Studio!  Contact me with any questions before or after purchase!

12×12 Scrapbook Pages

TeacherSBpages

I was asked to make a 12×12 layout to be added to a scrapbook for a retiring teacher.  I wanted to make a simple enough design for the teachers and staff to have room for lots of photos or good wishes or memorabilia.  After mulling over lots of ideas, this is what I came up with.  I used the star from Nursery Necessities (really a baby set but I have gotten lots of uses out of this set for other than baby!) and also the Star Punch.  The Big Shot Scallop Envelope in the corner will be good for one more little photo or some journaling.  The "Memories" page can either be filled with photos or good wishes or remembrances from the staff.  Again I used the Big Shot and the Billboard Alphabet to cut out the letters.

If you need any products for scrapbooking you can shop online by clicking the button in the upper right corner which will take you right to my website.  You want to be sure you are on my Stampin' Up! website when you order so you are able to receive the Hostess Rewards.  Contact me with any questions!

Christmas Scrapbook Pages

I loved the look of the projects in the Holiday Mini for the stamp set Yuletide Christmas. Here are some scrapbook pages you can create using this stamp set as well as the beautiful Medallion stamp.

The first one is a 6×6 page, which, in a workshop, I like to have people make as a card from a 6" x 12" card base.  Then they can add photos and send or give to someone as a card, or it can be cut apart and you have two 6×6 layouts.  Or they can even be framed!

Xmas6x6SB                                  Xmas6x6SBinside

Inside

Then if you wanted to add one of these pages to make an 8.5" x 11" page, it could look like this:

Xmas8x11SB

And of course if you wanted to make a 12" x 12" page, you could design it like this:

Xmas12x12SB

It's not too early to start designing some scrapbook pages for your Christmas album now and then after the holidays, all you have to do is add the photos!

Learning New Things with My Digital Studio

When we got to watch our son's wushu demonstration at college a couple weekends ago, I took a few photos but mostly I took video.  With My Digital Studio I can (and I did!) incorporate that video into an "interactive photo album" so that he will be able to see the pages I designed plus watch short videos of the demonstration.  I was surprised how easily I was able to do that with my limited computer skills!  But I also wanted more photos for the pages.  Luckily, I was able to figure out on my computer how to capture individual frames from the videos and save them individually as photos.  Not sure how clearly they will print out, but for now, it suited the purpose…..and I learned a new computer skill!  Here is one of the scrapbook pages I made with My Digital Studio using all these extra photos I was able to extract.  If you click on the link above, you can watch a short video from Stampin' Up! about My Digital Studio.

Wushu-004

Happy Birthday to My Wushu Kid!

Wushu-001

Last weekend we got to go to Austin to visit our boys, although one was sick so we only saw him as we dropped off an order of chicken soup from the restaurant where we had dinner!  We were lucky to be there in time to see our son, Steven, do his Wushu demo for a campus club.  This is just the "Demo Team", a group chosen for their skills and dedication to the practice and the sport.  The kids were all amazing in their skills, and the audience, who had been milling around, talking, and eating, all stopped to gather and give the Wushu team their full attention.  Wushu is Chinese martial arts like you might have seen in the move "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".

Since I was learning how to make an "interactive album" with the new Stampin' Up! My Digital Studio, I decided to try making an album using my Wushu photos and video.  I don't think the video will play on this post, which is a good thing since I probably need to edit it first, but this is a page I made with My Digital Studio. After designing the page, I embedded? one of my video segments into the photo.  I can burn it to a DVD or I can email it to my son and the video(s) will automatically play on each  of the pages as they are viewed!  It was an amazingly easy project to work on, for being so "technical", what with including video!  Now I need to go finish up the album and email it to him for a birthday gift today!

There are SO many things you can do with My Digital Studio!  You really need to check it out!!

Another My Digital Studio Page

New England Fall Trip 2009-003

Here's another page I made for my album with My Digital Studio as I am learning to use it.  This would have been a baby  scrapbook page if I had just inserted baby photos into the designer template….but you can take any page and make it your own or even start with a blank canvas.

Don't forget about the special Hostess Offer from Stampin' Up!…..through November 30, get My Digital Studio 50% off with a $400 workshop!

My Digital Studio

I've started making a digital photo album of some of my New England vacation photos in My Digital Studio.  You can do so many things with this new program from Stampin' Up!.  It isn't limited to just scrapbook pages or albums or calendars, although you can make all those things.  And if you submit your project to the official Stampin' Up! printer, you can be assured that your colors will be true to the Stampin' Up! colors.

Here is what might be my cover page.  I can always go back and change and work on my project.  Would you believe the design began as a baby album but I'm changing it to work for my trip pictures!

Back from Fall in New England

             IMG_6176

If you noticed my blog posts lacking it is because my husband and I were on a dream trip to New England to see the fall foliage….and New England!  Even on a ten day trip, there wasn't enough time to see everything and go everywhere.  I would like to think we'll go back someday but we'll see!  Since we don't get much in the way of "fall foliage" here in Houston (until Nov. or Dec.) it was a real treat to see the colored leaves.  Timing is everything and we must have hit it right because if the leaves weren't at peak color, I don't know how much more gorgeous they could be!  The only thing that could have been better was the weather.  It was cloudy and chilly almost the whole time, with a little drizzle thrown in now and then, and maybe bits of sunshine on a few days.  Naturally, the day we had the ocean view room in Bar Harbor, Maine it rained.  Fortunately you can still enjoy colored leaves even in cloudy weather and you could even make the case that it adds to the atmosphere of fall……but a little more sunshine to make the leaves sparkle would have been very nice.

We flew into Manchester, NH and drove straight to Woodstock, Vermont. Right away the leaves looked beautiful, and we couldn't restrain ourselves from saying, "Look at those leaves!"  "Look at that tree!" every few seconds! Woodstock was a really cute place and we stayed in our first B&B, the Ardmore Inn.  We weren't sure how we would like a B&B but it seemed to be the thing to do in this part of the country.  Charlotte was a great hostess and made our first experience a perfect one.  If the delicious breakfasts and afternoon cookies weren't enough, she certainly had me with the fall and Halloween decorations!

Stampin’ Up! In the News!

A local Salt Lake City newspaper, Deseret News, published a two-page spread about the Stampin' Up! Convention in its August 17 edition!

Crafty creativity: Utah-based Stampin' Up! adds digital products

Published: Monday, Aug. 17, 2009 6:13 p.m. MDT

Inspire. Create. Share.

When it comes to the art and craft of stamping, the theme of this year's national Stampin' Up! convention says it all, says Shelli Gardner, co-founder and CEO of the 20-year-old company.

Card-making, scrapbooking, home decor, gift items, apparel — whatever you do, however you find your creative outlet, she says, your life can be enriched.

Through these crafts, "you create tangible products, but you create something of value on many levels," Gardner says.

"And then you can turn around and share it with others. True inspiration causes you to stop and think, but it also so powerful that it moves you to action," she says. "A lot of fulfillment comes from that."

One of her favorite quotes comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson, who said: "In life, the hand can never execute anything higher than the heart can inspire."

Through these crafts, she says, "you are able to create the most valuable thing of all — relationships. That's the thing that most of our stampers talk about. Fun and enthusiasm are contagious and meant to be shared."

Stampin' Up! was started in 1988 by Gardner and her sister, LaVonne Crosby, when they got hooked on stamping and looked for a home-based business opportunity that would let them buy and sell rubber stamps. Finding none, they decided to create their own.

Today, there are some 40,000 Stampin' Up! demonstrators worldwide. The products are sold through in-home workshops and demonstrations and (at a slightly higher price) online. Today, the catalog has expanded to include not only stamps but paper, punches, art supplies, die cuts, stencils, home decor products and more.

Some 3,000 of their demonstrators gathered at the Salt Palace recently for the national convention. What is so fun, says Elizabeth Gray, public relations spokesman for Stampin' Up!, is "that they come from all walks of life, all ages, all stages of life. Some do it mostly so they can get their own products at a discount, some own their own businesses, and some even support their families."

At the convention, two new product lines were introduced and will be available this fall. The first is digital crafting software called My Digital Studio, which enables crafters to digitally design scrapbooks, cards and calenders as well as create multimedia outputs such as video, says Brent Steele, vice president for creative services at Stampin' Up!

Digital is becoming an increasing part of the scrapbook and crafting world, says Steele. "It's bringing in a whole new group of crafters: computer geeks, husbands and other men, younger crafters."

A second new line is a partnership with Build-A-Bear Workshop that will allow the Utah-based stamping company to create a collection of stamp sets, designer papers and die cuts built around Build-A-Bear Workshop mascot Bearamy and his furry friends. "I know I will be spending hours playing with my grandchildren, making all kinds of Build-A-Bear creations," Gardner says.

Jill Kocherhans demonstrated a few possibilities, including a gift sack, a little canvas bag for crayons, magnetic paper dolls and a framed picture scene. Some of her projects were made from what was left of the others. "Never throw anything away," is her advice.

"Experiment, and you can often find a new use for it."

Stamps can be used on paper, cloth, wood and other materials. Die cuts can be created out of fabric ironed on to fusible web that in turn can be ironed on to other fabrics, or out of magnetic sheets, or cardstock and other things available at any craft store, she says. All it takes is imagination, inspiration and creativity.

That's one thing that Sheila Paul, a demonstrator from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, loves about it all. "You can incorporate so many different crafts into what you do; they all cross the lines these days."

Her daughter, Heather, "is in it for the photography. I love to do portfolios and wedding albums."

There's something that everyone can do, says Trina Boyd, also from Edmonton. "I love it when people say, 'Oh, I can't do it; I'm not creative at all.' I sit down with them and pretty soon, they are saying, 'Oh, this is easy. I could do this at home.' "

Cynthia Ritzman, from Ontario, Calif., was in a painting group with some friends, and "one member of the group started stamping. I thought, 'Why do I need another hobby?' But we saw the fun she was having and we all gave in and started stamping. Now that's all we do."

It's like the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Stamp," jokes Trina Lopez. "You never know where you'll go, but you know you'll have fun."

That's the thing that Ritzman loves most. "You get to have a fun, relaxing time together. If you're not friends to start, you will be soon. You will find people to share your life."

It can be "completely addicting," warns Sharon Maxwell, of Marshall, Minn., with a grin. "Maybe we need a Stampers Anonymous." On the other hand, she says, "I love it. It's a great way to spend time with your best friends, doing something you can all enjoy."

The theme does say it all, adds her friend, Carol Jones, Oreana, Ill. "It's so rewarding to see someone's eyes light up because of something they've made. You both feed good. It's inspiring. It's creative. And it's just plain fun."
