Celebrate Memorial Day

memorial-day-shadow-soldier

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States to honor men and women who died while in the military. I remember when it originally was called Decoration Day.  At many national cemetaries there are ceremonies and volunteers who place small American flags on all the graves. Amidst all the sales at the mall that seem to take over our holidays and the unofficial beginning of summer as many people use this weekend for traveling and summer fun, we should all pause to remember the real meaning of this holiday.

If you have family members who served in the military, you might want to check out www.Ancestry.com which is giving free access to draft, enlistment and service records through May 27th. It is SO fascinating to look up these records.  You just have to sign up for a free account.  I just looked up my grandfather’s World War I registration card.  He was just my youngest son’s age. It’s amazing to read his physical description, address, and see his signature in his own handwriting.  These records might be something you can use in your scrapbooking.

Enjoy your day!

Make a Mother’s Day Card in My Digital Studio

Mother's Day Card 2013-001
Images copyright Stampin' Up! 2013

My Digital Studio by Stampin' Up! is always a fun place to go to make a card quickly. So if you need a Mother's Day card at the last minute, digital might be the way to go! You can even download the free 30-day trial of My Digital Studio, make your card, print it on your own computer or at a store, and have it in hand in minutes.  Better yet, purchase the full MDS version for only $19.95 and take advantage of ALL the content that comes with it!  I can't begin to tell you what a bargain that is!! Digital papercrafting is so big right now!

Even better, if your kids and husband don't know what to get you for Mother's Day, give them THIS LINK and let them order you the download for My Digital Studio. You'll have it instantaneously and after breakfast in bed you can play on the computer all day with MDS while they go to the park or a movie and give you peace and quiet!

This MDS Mother's Day card was made starting with a card template, already designed. It was a thank you card, so I deleted the words and found a Mother's Day greeting instead! Because I preferred the flower on the other side of the card, I moved it over. And since I preferred it to be another color, I used the coloring tool (so fun!) and colored the flowers Melon Mambo and the leaves Gumball Green.  That's all it took! I could have made it even simpler by only changing the "Thank You" to something for Mother's Day and left everything else as is.  And if I wanted to I could have started with a blank screen and created my own card because I actually had a page torn out of a magazine I planned to recreate….then I looked at the designer templates first…and here's the result!

Whatever you decide to do……my boys made it home for the weekend so I plan on lots of hugging on them and catching up on their busy lives…. I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day!!!

When Is Mother’s Day? Mother’s Day is Sunday!

Pleasant Poppies Mother's Day Card

When is Mother's Day? Yes, Mother's Day is this Sunday, May 12th!

Here are some quotes about mothers that perhaps you can use in your cards or projects for your mother.

A mother’s heart is a patchwork of love. – Anonymous

A man’s work is from sun to sun, but a mother’s work is never done. – Anonymous

A mom’s hug lasts long after she lets go. – Anonymous

A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.- By Tenneva Jordan

A mother is one to whom you hurry when you are troubled. – By Emily Dickinson

A mother understands what a child does not say. – Jewish proverb

All I am, or can be, I owe to my angel mother. – By Abraham Lincoln

God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers. – By Jewish Proverb

Most of all the other beautiful things in life come by twos and threes by dozens and hundreds. Plenty of roses, stars, sunsets, rainbows, brothers, and sisters, aunts and cousins, but only one mother in the whole world. – By Kate Douglas Wiggin

Mothers hold their children’s hands for a short while, but their hearts forever. Anonymous

The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother. – By Theodore Hesburgh

I hope you enjoyed these sayings about mothers and that they help you with your Mother's Day card or Mother's Day gift or project.

My Mother's Day card is stamped with Pleasant Poppies (a large background stamp) in Stazon Black Ink. The flowers and stems are colored in with Calypso Coral and Tangerine Tango Stampin' Write Markers using an Aqua Painter and just the markers themselves. As a final touch I spritzed the card with Gold Glow Smooch Spritz.  I think you can see it in the photo.

Using Epic Day This and That Designer Washi Tape

My camera is broken at the moment so I thought I would just post some ideas I have seen or had for using the great new Epic Day This and That Designer Washi Tape. You can order this tape as a separate item #131269 from my Stampin' Up! store….but the better idea would be to purchase the entire Epic Day This and That Bundle before the end of April so you can get a 15% discount on the whole package.

Of course the obvious use for Washi Tape is to adhere, decoratively, your photos and memorabilia to your album or journal or whatever. But you can also use the tape itself as a decorative item. Here are a few ideas:

  • Wrap washi tape around a tea light base (use a battery-operated one).
  • Decorate plastic cups, straws, plasticware for a party with washi tape.
  • Wrap washi tape around a gift box or gift bag as decorative borders.
  • Use washi tape on a card or scrapbook page just placing it as lines of tape on the project, as borders or stripes or small banners.
  • Wrap washi tape around a glass jar as a decoration or even as a identifier of the contents.
  • Before making a rosette, place a long strip of washi tape on the strip of paper and you'll have a design on your rosette after you fold it!
  • Tape pieces of washi tape in long or short strips down or across a notebook cover to add color and design.
  • Adhere washi tape around a glass votive holder to decorate your candle.
  • Adhere washi tape on clip clothespins to decorate.  Add a magnet to the back.
  • Decorate a plain file folder with washi tape.

So there you have a FEW ideas to get started!

Playful Polka Dots Scrapbook Page

Playful Polka Dots SB-001
Images copyright Stampin' Up! 2013

Yesterday I mentioned you could get this My Digital Studio Playful Polka Dots Digital Kit from Stampin' Up! for FREE! Amazingly, I didn't already own it so I downloaded it and installed it on MDS and played with it! Here is an 8"x 8" scrapbook page I could use once I added some photos.  I had to add the black punches behind where the photo boxes would be because I don't think the photo boxes show up here by themselves.

I started with a custom project and chose the 8" x 8" size. Then I added four photo boxes and chose a background paper from the designer kit.  Next I looked through the embellishments in the Playful Polka Dots Kit and chose the polka dot trim and rotated one to go horizontally. The other two strips were also border embellishments. Next I chose the flowers and leaves and placed them where I wanted.

Working in My Digital Studio is very easy…perhaps you will need a little time to get used to it, but there's not really too big a learning curve!

You can still try MDS for 30 days for a FREE Trial, if you like.  However, with the price dropped drastically down to $19.95 I would just go ahead and purchase MDS and start working with ALL the artwork and content you get for that price.  Really, it is amazing!

Everything MDS can be found in my Stampin' Up! Online Store! Find My Digital Studio in the left sidebar and click on it to go to all that Stampin' Up! offers in MDS!

Let me know if you have any questions!

My Digital Studio Downloads…Parent Memories and More Organizing

One of the new downloads this week for Stampin’ Up!’s digital software program, My Digital Studio, could turn out to be one of the most important ones you could buy and use. This one I am talking about is called “Think Back Photobook Templates“. Once printed it would be an album of questions for whomever you choose. It’s designed for your parents and grandparents to write about their lives. They write their answers in the book, maybe post some photos. A couple of questions in the book are: “What song defines your childhood?” and “What personality traits did you inherit from your mother?”

Think Back Photobook MDS

As with any My Digital Studio templates, you could print this book exactly as is or you can change colors, change names, change questions, add questions, add photos, change embellishments, change design, etc. etc. So you can design this book in whatever manner you want.  You can make it for yourself.

If you still have your parents and loved ones, you take it for granted that you know all about them and will remember all the stories you have heard over and over again in your life. But sometimes that isn’t the case, or your mind just goes blank because you no longer have someone to ask to verify a certain story or fact. If you can get their stories in writing, I guarantee you it will be a treasure to you like no other.

You can even purchase this download for My Digital Studio without owning My Digital Studio and use it in another program. You can even print it yourself or at a retail location.  But if you want the very best, I suggest doing the FREE 30-Day Trial of My Digital Studio and trying it out.  Get the photobook printed by Stampin’ Up!’s own printer and make sure the colors are accurate and the book well done.

If you no longer have your parents and grandparents, then do this for your own children and family. If not now, someday they WILL treasure what you wrote and what you told them.

Click here to see all the newest downloads for this week!  There are more for organizing your home, too!  Stampin’ Up! will have us all ship-shape pretty soon!

Superbowl XLVII My Digital Studio Football Scrapbook Page

Super Bowl 2013-001

Images copyright Stampin' Up! 2013

It's here!  The big day for football, Super Bowl XLVII! Whether you're going to a Super Bowl party, having a Super Bowl party, or just have your own football pictures you'd like to scrapbook, here's an easy idea for a football scrapbook page layout and design! This page was made quickly in Stampin' Up!'s digital software program called My Digital Studio! I just chose a template that was already made up, deleted a few words, added my own football terms and footballs, and it's ready to go! If I had my own football players in the family I could put their photos in the photo boxes from my computer.  If I wanted to add photos of friends at a Super Bowl party, it's easy to do that.  If I wanted to make a page the traditional way, I can plan it on My Digital Studio first, then make it with ink, paper, and stamps. If I wanted to print out this page minus the pennants, I could do that, then cut my own pennants from designer paper and adhere them to the page.  Lots of choices with My Digital Studio!

While you're waiting for the game to start, why not download a free 30-day trial version of My Digital Studio?! Play around with it and see how you like it!

Enjoy the game!! (or maybe just the commercials and half-time!)
