Deals Going On at Stampin’ Up!

Stampin' Up! Weekly Deal Aug 4 2015

Here are the new Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals for August 4 – Monday, August 10. Be sure to check them out!  Not too many this week, though. If you don’t have the 1/16″ and 1/8″ Circle Punches, you might be interested in those.  Good for making tags and other projects,  The In Color Blossom Accents are brand new in the new catalog and very cute! Not so good for mailing on a normal card, but if you are enclosing a card in a package or giving the card in person, it makes a cute accent.  Just attach with a glue dot. I love the Venetian Crochet Trim, it makes a pretty embellishment on certain projects. And of course, if you need more items to add to your ribbon collection, any color of Baker’s Twine is always handy and we all love the Seam Binding Ribbon. Remember, these products are only available at these discounted prices while quantities last, then they go back to regular price.

Also, Stampin’ Up! has announced they will add more items to the Clearance Rack tomorrow!

Sales Tax Holiday Coming!

Schoolhouse

Happy August!!  Is today really the first day of August?!  What happened to July?? At least it is almost my birthday!

Since it is August, thoughts turn to the start of school! And with that, some states have a Sales Tax Holiday to help families with back to school expenses.  Twelve states are having a sales-tax holiday for school supplies on certain dates in August. The states typically define school supplies as “any items normally used by students in a standard classroom for educational purposes.”  Stampin’ Up! is, therefore, limiting our exemptions per the state statute based on item description and price.

Here is a chart Stampin’ Up! provided with the states and dates and links to more information. Check and see if your state is listed. Some products that Stampin’ Up! sells can be considered school supplies and therefore, you may be able to save the sales tax. Even though a state is listed, not all communities may be participating.  The dates are very limited to be sure to order during that time if you are able to take advantage of your state’s sales tax holiday.

Sales Tax Holiday 2015

Each state has specific rules they consider to be school supplies–this may be by description or by price. The table below shows the items that are included per state statute definitions. The list of items below will be state tax-free during the holiday period. Please note that you must place your order with Stampin’ Up!® during the tax holiday period (which is midnight on the first day to midnight on the last day of the tax holiday) in order to receive these items tax-free . Also, keep in mind that this is a state sales-tax holiday and may not apply to additional county, city, and special-jurisdiction taxes.

Here’s a specific chart of which Stampin’ Up! items apply in each state.  You’ll have to click to enlarge.

Stampin Up! Weekly Deal June 30 2015

Check out these new Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals for June 30, 2015 through Monday, July 6. Click on the photos to see the page in my Online Store.  I see several products I want! For sure you want the 2″ Circle Punch to fit in with some others you might have. If you don’t have the new In Color ink pads yet, get the In Color Markers and you can “marker up” your stamps if you want to use a new In Color. Sequins, ribbon, button and twine – always good for embellishing!  Sometimes it is the little bit of embellishment that makes the card. The Fast Fuse Adhesive, I admit is a little tricky to use, but now that I have the hang of it, I LOVE it. Very good adhesive. Sometimes I have to advance the tape myself a little bit in the dispenser, but otherwise it works great. (Not on the Weekly Deals, but I also love the new Tear & Tape Adhesive.  You should put that on your next order for sure!)

Clearance Rack Banner 2015

Also check out the Stampin’ Up! Clearance Rack.  There are new items on the Clearance Rack, while supplies last. Not quite what I was expecting and I don’t know what they did with the previous stuff, but there you have it. Check it out!

***Apparently Stampin’ Up! is working on some corrections to the Clearance Rack right now!  We’ll see! Check back a little later on.

Last Day for these Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals!

These Weekly Deals are fantastic ones!  I have had so much fun using the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits for make many different sizes and styles of little treat bags for cards or treats inside! Scroll through my blog to see some of my recent posts!

Stampin' Up! Weekly Deal June 23 2015

Making Mini Treat Bags with the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits

Watch Donna Griffith from the Stampin’ Up! Home Office make cute mini treat bags with the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies! She shows some really cute ideas, plus watch for the tip about the little heart embellishment!  I never heard that one before!

The Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies are on sale during the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals through Monday June 29, 2015.  I also love the Silver Glimmer Paper and the embossing folders on this deal, not to mention the buttons and the ribbon!  It’s all good!

Smaller Mini Treat Bags

Cherry on Top Mini Treat Bags

I’ve let go of Christmas today and have another way to use the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies I think you will find useful!  The die pieces include one large one which forms the front of the bag, and we used two of them to make the larger gusseted bags. Today we will use the smaller die piece which normally forms the back of the bag and cut two of those to make these Smaller Mini Treat Bags!

Cut two of the small bag die pieces.

Cherry on Top Mini Treat Bag Pieces

Fold the score lines made by the die to form the bag.  Since the bottom edges of these pieces are just straight, trim off a little bit, maybe 1/2″ from the bottom of one that will be the back piece of the bag. On the other piece, make a 1/2″ score line and fold (maybe even trimming the corners off as shown.  This piece will be the front piece of the mini treat bag.

Cherry on Top Mini Treat Bag Folds

Apply adhesive of your choice as shown.  I used the new Tear & Tape Adhesive.

Cherry on Top Mini Treat Bag Tape

The Mini Treat Bag on the left is made with the Cherry on Top Designer Series Paper Stack. Such a cute stack of colorful papers! As you can see the front and back top edges are the same length. The heart and words are die cuts in the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies. Not only do you get the mini treat bag dies but you get extra dies that cut embellishments for your projects.

The treat bag on the right is made from the new In Color Envelope Paper. On this bag, the front piece is folded down a bit and I tied a string of the Burlap Ribbon around the top edge. The star is a die cut in the set of thinlits dies.

 Mini Treat Bags

Remember, the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies are on the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals through Monday night, June 29. You can save $10 when you purchase these dies! To see some other altered  Mini Treat Bags I have made, check out this post and this post. To see some of the “regular” mini treat bags you can make with the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies, please click HERE.

Mini Treat Bag Altered Christmas Gift Bag

Mini Treat Bag Altered Christmas Gift Bag

Do you realize that six months from today is Christmas Day?! That means there are less than six months to get ready for Christmas! Now that the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies are on sale this week, $10 off, on the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals, I thought I would learn how to make an altered size bag, rather than just the flat kind of treat bag into which you would slip a card or gift card or something not very thick. Since it is only six months today until Christmas, I thought I would make a Mini Treat Bag Altered Christmas Gift Bag!

Here is a little tutorial for you:

Mini Treat Bag Pieces

Instead of cutting the two different pieces to make the bag like you would normally, cut two pieces with the large bag die. This one piece would normally be the front of the regular Mini Treat Bag. Then just trim off that extra little piece as shown. Just snip it off with a scissors. That side of the bag will be the gusseted side of the bag when assembled.

Mini Treat Bag Pieces Scored

Now score just that right side of the large piece at 1/2″ and 1 1/4″ as shown. There will also be a score line made from the die. For the bottom of the bag, cut one or two pieces of paper  1 1/2″ x 3 5/8″. I say one or two because it depends on what kind of paper you are using and how strong and sturdy you want the bottom of the bag to be. With card stock probably just one piece is fine; with designer paper you probably want to glue two pieces together.

Mini Treat Bag Pieces Folded

This is how you will fold on the score lines on both pieces to form the gusset for the side of the bag. If you just want the side flat, then just score at 1/2″ and use the score line made by the die. You won’t need the center one. Play with the two pieces and see how they will fit together so you have the folds going the correct way.

Mini Treat Bag Pieces Glued

Adhere the bottom piece to the bottom tab and all the sides to form the bag.  I like using the Multipurpose Liquid Glue because it gives you time and slip to be able to move the pieces to exactly the right positions. But Fast Fuse or Tear & Tape Adhesive.

Mini Treat Bag Altered Christmas Gift Bag

Next comes the fun part of embellishing the Mini Treat Bag! I used a piece of the In Color Envelope Paper, the Cucumber Crush color, to make a banner.  I stamped a Christmas greeting with a stamp in the Wondrous Wreath Photopolymer Stamp Set in Real Red ink, then punched it out with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch. I die cut a piece of Silver Glimmer Paper with the Circles Collection Framelits Dies for a layer behind the greeting.  The little bow is a die cut in the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies package! So many cute and useful extra dies in that collection! I would also suggest putting a Rhinestone Jewel on the center of that bow. (I forgot!)

There you have it!  Really the process is pretty easy to make a Mini Treat Bag Altered Christmas Gift Bag. Take advantage of the $10 savings on this die this week.  Weekly Deals are good through Monday night, June 29 until 11:50 pm MT. Shop for these Mini Treat Bag Dies and any other stamping and art supplies you need at my Stampin’ Up! Online Store HERE.  PS:  That Silver Glimmer Paper is also on sale this week on the Weekly Deals!

Altered Mini Treat Bag

Altered Mini Treat Bag

With the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies on sale for $10 off this week on the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals, I thought I would make an altered Mini Treat Bag so you can see some versatility with this die! By just doing  a few different things, you can make a larger gusseted treat bag with the same dies! You can make a smaller one too!  And this die comes with so many different pieces and coordinates with a new stamp set in the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog. That stamp set is You’re So Sweet on page 57.

The negative image of the word “Enjoy” is leftover from something else I made with the word cut out that I just happened to save and it came in handy for this bag!  I had a scrap piece of the same Bohemian Designer Series Paper so I just turned it over and glued it to the front of the bag with a scrap strip of Gold Glimmer Paper across the front. I also used the star die in the package to cut out the star out of the Gold Glimmer Paper. So easy!

Tomorrow I will take a few more photos and show you have to make this altered Mini Treat Bag.

Be sure to check out the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals for the week of June 23, 2015. These are good through Monday night, June 29. Every item on there is worth having!  But I know you’ll have fun with the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits!

We’ve got the 1″ Square Punch and the Sweetheart Heart Punch, plus the popular Honeycomb Embossing Folder.  Think of the bee stamp in the Garden in Bloom Photopolymer Stamp Set and the English Garden Designer Paper with bees to go with it!

As I write this blog post, we are getting a little bit of rain from Tropical Storm Bill out in the Gulf of Mexico. I woke up to hear a bird chirping so I knew the dreaded heavy rain did not occur during the night. The good thing is that nothing is flooding yet and most people can easily get to work. The bad thing is most people can easily get to work this morning, but then what happens?! I don’t think anyone knows for sure yet, which is often the case with these tropical storms. The weather people can be sure they are moving in a certain direction and forecast heavy rain and flooding for an area, and then the storm moves a bit, speeds up or slows down, and everything changes. So while it seems like nothing is happening, we are getting bands of rain moving through in Houston, and Galveston and coastal areas are getting high surf and big waves.

I spent yesterday gathering storm supplies that we are always supposed to have on hand during hurricane season. I didn’t think much about it for this storm until I saw on Sunday night on the news that some store shelves had been emptied of bottled water! I didn’t have any trouble getting the supplies I needed early yesterday morning, but by later in the day grocery stores were mobbed and bottled water was gone!

Tropical Storm Bill SuppliesHere are some of my supplies I picked up yesterday!  Fresh bottled water, canned soup, tuna, batteries, chocolate of course, paper towels, and why not some chocolate?! I also filled an ice chest with bags of ice to cool it down just in case and bought a power pack to charge my phone in case the power goes off. Usually you don’t need much of this stuff, it’s “just in case”! So far so good, except my bags of ice are probably going to melt before we might need them.

During our lemon of a refrigerator saga a year or so ago, we learned that even with a good ice chest, it really made a difference to insulate it with old blankets covering it. Really helped keep the cold in or the hot out!

So with my preparations made, hopefully I can do some stamping today during these bands of rain and hopefully we won’t get too much until everyone gets home from work tonight. It was only a few weeks ago, on Memorial Day, that Houston flooded from storms that unexpectedly formed right over us and didn’t move for hours. Those people whose homes flooded are just now starting to get them repaired, so it would be horrible for them to get more flooding. I also feel bad for people who rented a beach house in Galveston for a week and this is the week they got!

Check out the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals and see if there is anything you need!

A Few New Stampin’ Up! Products

New Stampin' Up! Products 2015

As a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator I was able to preorder some of the new products in the Stampin’ Up! Catalog 2015, but then I needed some more catalogs for customers and to have on hand so why not order a few more Stampin’ Up! products as long as the catalogs are coming?!

The Layered Letters Alphabet was something I saw online when Stampin’ Up! streamed a preview of the new catalog from the South Pacific event. I thought it was so cute, yet I didn’t put it on my order right away.  But then I did! I think there will be lots of things to do with it!

The stamp set that looks like lined paper is called Writing Notes and is a large background stamp. I should have ordered it in wood-mount because I think it is easier to use background stamps already mounted on wood. But you have your choice, wood- or clear-mount. Of course it is good to use for journaling in traditional scrapbooking or Project Life, but I think there will be other cute things to use it for, like a background on a card or something. We’ll see what everyone comes up with!

One popular item for sure is going to be the Tin of Cards, which is displayed on the front cover of the Stampin’ Up! Catalog. The tin is so cute in itself and comes with enough materials inside to make 16 cards, 4 each of 4 designs. Of course you can make whatever designs you want if you like to change things up so that you have 16 unique cards. Either way you are being creative! The Tin of Cards Photopolymer Stamp Set is separate but has great greetings to use with the kit and just with any stamping.  Get a few friends together to each order a tin and perhaps the stamp set also and then get together to make all your cards! Or if you are local to me, we can plan something with everyone ordering the Tin of Cards and I will bring the greeting stamp set!

I also stocked up on some black and white ribbon, the 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon, which comes in five colors! And some of the new Gold Metallic Thread for a little pizzazz!  There are also new Metallic Foil Doilies in gold and silver, plus a new accent called White Perfect Accents. Not exactly sure what all you can do with them yet, but they can be colored with Sharpie Markers to match your project. And then there is the new embossing folder, Brick Wall which will be interesting to play with! It’s the new larger size. Oh, and I almost forgot the new Tear & Tape Adhesive which I can’t wait to try! Supposed to be easy to use and have a strong hold for our 3D projects!

If you would like to see the fun little Flipagram video I made of the Tin of Cards Project Kit, check out my Instagram at @stampingwithkaren or my Facebook page HERE.

Any carry-over products from the old catalog that are in the new catalog, if there is a price increase, will be the old price. Also, if you have a large order ($150 or more) or workshop with friends, and you order on June 2nd, you will receive the same Hostess benefits you are accustomed to. Beginning June 3rd, these change a bit.

  • If you can’t find a category for an outgoing product, just put it in the search box.  The categories are made for the new catalog – ie. Digital.

Here are some new catalog updates from Stampin’ Up!

  • We’ve identified a sizing error with two of our Designer Series Paper Stacks, and have opted to not offer the following two collections at catalog launch:
138435: Neutrals Collection Designer Series Paper Stack
138436: Regals Collection Designer Series Paper Stack
We do not expect a long delay in getting these items up to our quality standards and will let you know as soon as they are made available for ordering.
  • The Watercolor Wishes Card Kit (item 140406; p. 80 and p. 155) will not be available for purchase until July 2015.
  • Page 110: Item #138946
Under the Project Kit header at the top of the page, the Tin of Cards Stamp Set price is incorrectly listed as $16.00. The correct price is $17.00.
  • Page 142 Item #139003 Sahara Sand is incorrectly listed as one of the colors in the Bohemian Cardstock Pack. The correct color is Delightful Dijon.

My Digital Studio Banner 2015

And let’s not forget My Digital Studio!!!  I feel very sad that this is the end of MDS. I was at the Convention when they announced it and demonstrated it and ordered the software as soon as it was released. I think the original price was $80 so if you can buy it now for $13.97, you know you are REALLY getting a deal!  The software comes with a tremendous amount of content and you can choose any other downloads you would like, including some Project Life cards and stamp brushes (stamps). Today is the last day to make any purchases, of the software or any downloads you want, or order any printing you want done, but support has been extended until June 9th. If you want just a few downloads, you can use them with other design software on your computer – for example you could print a stamp greeting and use it on a card. I will have more information for what follows for MDS users a little later.
