Stampin’ Up! Updates

Stampin' Up! Weekly Deal Mar 24 2015

Here are the current Weekly Deals from Stampin’ Up! for Tuesday March 24 through Monday March 30.

Also, last week when I was on vacation, there was an announcement about My Digital Studio (MDS). This program has been evaluated by Stampin’ Up! and determined that this product has not been as successful as Stampin’ Up! had hoped.  Therefore, it will no longer be offered after May 31, 2015. If you own MDS you can certainly still continue to use it and have your products printed anywhere other than the SU printer. Stampin’ Up! will no longer offer support, although if you ask your demonstrator about any questions or problems, we may be able to find out the answer for you within our demonstrator community. Be sure you have downloaded all the downloads you have purchased (I need to do this!) before May 31 and it is suggested you have everything backed up because you will not be able to go back to Stampin’ Up! to download again. You can use the SU Printer up until May 31 (I need to do this too!). I hate to see MDS go, as do a lot of demonstrators and customers, but I didn’t use it as much as I intended to and maybe that was true with a lot of people.

However, for your memory-keeping, we do have Project Life by Stampin’ Up! created by Becky Higgins that is very easy to use! Stampin’ Up! continues to bring us exciting new products so while I am sad to see MDS go, change is a part of life and stamping! Just be sure you purchase any downloads (or the software) before May 31 and if you have any projects you have made but not printed, have them printed by the SU printer before May 31. You can always print things yourself or have them printed at other local businesses.

Remember, Sale-A-Bration comes to an end March 31, a week from today!

Butterfly Berry Basket

Butterfly Berry Basket

I may not have the fancy dishes and table decorations that I saw on the Houston Azalea Trail last Friday, but at least I can make my own basket with the Berry Basket Die and decorate with the Butterflies Thinlits Dies #137360.

I got this idea from the sample in our demonstrator magazine, Stampin’ Success. Mine is made a little differently, but I copied the main elements. Stampin’ Up! made their sample with Coaster Board, a heavier material that would truly be better for making a sturdy basket. Rather than stamping a smaller butterfly, I just die cut the Best Year Ever Designer Series Paper available during Sale-A-Bration. The larger butterfly is die cut from the paper in the Sweet Taffy DSP.

The Butterflies Thinlits Dies, as  I write this, are backordered and they can’t be ordered at this time. As soon as Stampin’ Up! gets more in stock, they will turn the number back on.

Does March Come In Like a Lion? Sale-A-Bration Does with New Products!

March Lion and Lamb

Today is the first day of March! Weather lore suggests that if March comes in like a lion then it goes out like a lamb. I think most parts of the country would say the weather has already been like a lion for quite awhile now with so much snow and ice.  One day I read that there was snow in 48 states! Some parts of Texas can be wintry but not here at my house, except for feeling really cold, and that usually means temperatures in the 40’s! So if March is coming in like a lion at your house, I hope it will soon settle down and act like a lamb!

Stampin’ Up! has been like a lion since January when Sale-A-Bration began, their biggest promotion of the year. When you purchase $50 in Stampin’ Up! merchandise you earn a FREE Stampin’ Up! product from the special Sale-A-Bration Brochure. And no limits, so for every $50 you spend, you earn a free product! Unfortunately, Stampin’ Up! has had quality issues with the Blendabilities Markers so those numbers are turned off in ordering as well as the ones available in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure. No Blendabilities Markers are available at this time and we will all have to wait for further announcements from Stampin’ Up! about this problem.

Also, if you have any difficulty ordering certain accessory items (not stamps), it could be that those numbers were turned off due to backorder problems which stem from the west coast port situation. As you may have heard on the news, the west coast ports have reached a tentative agreement and operations should return to normal, but there is such a backlog that it will take awhile to recover. Some Stampin’ Up! products may be affected and their numbers may have been turned off to keep customers from having to wait an undetermined amount of time. If you have any questions about backordered products, just ask. Stampin’ Up! manufactures their own stamps in Utah so those are not involved.

The good news is that four new products are available today from which to choose during Sale-A-Bration!  That is only until March 31 and then Sale-A-Bration is over!

Best Day Ever Happy Card

Best Day Ever Happy Card

Use the Best Day Ever Stamp Set, available as a free product you can earn during Sale-A-Bration, and the Hello You Thinlits Dies in the Occasions Catalog, you can make a simple card in bright, happy colors to cheer someone for whatever reason.

To make this card I just grabbed the stamp set and the little flower-looking stamp, and stamped it in Melon Mambo to match the card base, Daffodil Delight, and Tangerine Tango randomly on the Whisper White card front. Then I die cut the “Happy” from Gold Foil. To make it show up better, I decided to adhere it to Whisper White layered on Melon Mambo. That layer is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. And I stamped a few hearts from the Best Day Ever Stamp Set. The Daffodil Delight Seam Binding Ribbon adds a nice, bright embellishment to the card.

Stampin’ Up! Sale-A-Bration is at the halfway mark, ending March 31. To see all the items available with every $50 purchase, browse through the Sale-A-Bration brochure at this link! Look for the items marked “FREE”!

How to Store Your Paper Stack

Paper Stack Storage in Case

Now that Valentine’s Day is over, you may have used a lot of papers in your Stacked with Love Designer Paper Stack and have a lot of partial scraps or torn out patterns. Even though you try to keep them inside the pad, they probably tend to fall out. You could put them in a plastic bag, but, I don’t know, that doesn’t fit well into your perfect organizational scheme, does it?! So here is an idea I saw recently and I thought it was a great storage idea for the paper stacks!

The whole paper stack fits nicely into a Stampin’ Up! Clear-Mount Stamp Case. Did you know you could purchase extra empty stamp cases and use them for projects or storage? The Clear-Mount Stamp Cases (119105) are available for purchase!  You get 4 cases for only $5.95. They are so useful for storing extra stamps (like from Paper Pumpkin kits) or paper scraps or decorating to hold a notebook and pen – whatever you can imagine! Since you can see through the cover of the stamp case, you can read the name of the Paper Stack through the cover or you can label it as yo like.

Next time you place an order, think about including a set of Clear-Mount Stamp Cases.  You can also purchase the larger Wood-Mount Stamp Cases (full-size) and the Wood-Mount Half Cases. All these empty stamp cases are good to use for storage. And I know we stampers are always looking for new storage ideas!

Don’t forget to check the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals as well. Monday nights are the last time to purchase the current Weekly Deals and then on Tuesday there will be new ones.

Try the Stampin’ Up! Clear-Mount Stamp Cases to store your paper stack and not have scraps and pages falling out all over the place. Use the extra ones for other storage or stamping projects!  They are great!

Class Valentines for Girls & Weekly Deals

Two Hearts 3 x 3 Valentine

It’s about time to start thinking about class valentines for school parties! Over the weekend I had two moms come over and get an early start on valentines for their three school classes. Since I knew we would be making LOTS of valentines, I needed to keep them simple and doable. That meant we probably wanted to punch rather than crank the Big Shot fifty times, make sure I had enough supplies for that many valentines, and basically keep them fairly simple to make and remember that it would be little children receiving these who weren’t going to care how creative we were, who might only barely look at them before tossing aside.  YET we were making them and enjoying doing that so we didn’t mind putting in a little work!

I knew Elsie liked pink and would want some bling and shine on her valentines for her all-girl 2nd grade class! I had some retired Pretty in Pink 3″ x 3″ notecards in my old stash so that saved cutting and scoring and were just the right size. Melon Mambo is a color that goes with Pretty in Pink so I made the layer from Melon Mambo paper in the Brights Backgrounds Designer Series Paper Stack.  The hearts are punched with the retired Heart Punch. One is made from the Silver Glimmer Paper and the other heart is stamped with a retired stamp set P.S. I Love You. The greeting is stamped on a little 1/2″ wide banner from a stamp in the January Paper Pumpkin Kit! The little staple from the Stampin’ Up! Handheld Stapler adds a cute little touch. And for some bling, we added a little Rhinestone Jewel to the heart. The hearts are popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The inside of the card is stamped with the “You’re the Best” stamp in the Just Sayin’ Stamp Set  that Elsie chose herself to use.

After the valentines, Elsie wanted to play (not with toys but with stamps!), and I had already spotted this past kit that I thought she might have fun with. In just a few minutes she had a whole bunch of flowers made! I have no doubt she can now use these flowers to embellish some other projects at home! She also made the popular rubber band bracelets for everyone in her class to give out with her valentines! Elsie is quite the stamper even at her young age.  She knew exactly what she was doing when she was helping us with the valentines, and I loved having a child’s touch to all the valentines for herself, her brother Wyatt, and her friend Carl. Isn’t she the cutest thing?!

Elsie

Don’t we all have the best memories of elementary class valentine parties, of decorating the shoe box or the bag, cutting hearts out of construction paper, using doiles, maybe even some glitter and glue?! I think I remember having a kit to assemble my own valentines rather than the typical store-bought valentines. So maybe it has all come full circle!

Here are the new Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals for January 27 – February 2. If you like embossing with the Big Shot or the Texture Boutique, you will LOVE these deals!  Stock up on some embossing folders! The Texture Boutique is way less expensive than the Big Shot, but remember, you can only emboss with it. To do more, get the Big Shot, some paper, some embossing folders, whatever you like to total $150. Then get $25 in Hostess Dollars to spend on anything, plus 3 Sale-A-Bration items FREE!

Easy Red, Black and White Valentine Card

Easy Red, Black and White Valentine Card

Since I’ve been talking about using up scraps recently, I had to show you this card I made in minutes from a few extra pieces I found on my table. They turned into my easy red, white and black Valentine card! Some other day when I was cutting out hearts with the Hearts Collection Framelit Dies I just saved these scraps. This card began when I just paged through the Stacked with Love Designer Series Paper Stack and chose this paper with the x’s and o’s. I was debating exactly what to put on the front when I remembered these spare hearts and things over at the corner of the table. When I found them it was easy just placing them on the card and feeling satisfied with my creation. Then I just added a little bow with the Real Red 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon. The greeting is stamped with the You Plus Me Stamp SetI suggest the Bundle of Stacked with Love Paper Stack and the stamp set and save 15%!

Don’t forget the new stamp set, Better Than E-mail Photopolymer Stamp Set! If you are making and selling cards, even if you are not a Demonstrator, you must add the Stampin’ Up! copyright stamp to your cards or any Stampin’ Up! images you are selling per the Angel Policy. Even if you are just making cards, I think these are great to stamp on the back just like the big card companies! Then sign or initial your card and put the date if you like.

Better Than Email Stamp Set

These can be ordered in my Stampin’ Up! Online Store!  And with a $50 purchase you can choose a FREE product during Stampin’ Up! Sale-A-Bration!

Make a Card From Scraps

Make a Card Out of ScrapsOver the weekend, I found a plastic bag full of paper scraps, and I made this Valentine card mostly out of those scraps! My “system” is to shove scrap pieces into the card stock package, but these must have been some that were just loose for a long time and finally got collected into one bag when I HAD to clean up. Some of the colors were even retired! These Mixed Bunch stamps were already stamped on some scraps so I punched those out with the Blossom Punch. For the flower centers, I copied an idea I saw on Pinterest, making centers from little hearts! I used the heart punch in the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack and the 7/8″ Circle Scallop Punch.  The Honeycomb Embossing Folder was also in the bag of scraps so I used that as my background layer on a card base of Tempting Turquoise since the weather has warmed up and the sun has come out.  I thought we needed a bright card! The designer paper on the card is from the Stacked with Love Paper Stack in the Occasions Catalog. The greeting is stamped with the You Plus Me Stamp Set. There is also a bundle if you like that paper and stamp set, the You Plus Me Bundle.

Find some scraps that you have and make an effort to use them in a card or other project today!
