A Colorful Card For Father’s Day

Colorful Card For Father's Day

Tomorrow is Father’s Day and if you are still looking for a card idea, I have one more for you! This Colorful Card For Father’s Day is made with the Friends For Life Dies. I watched a video probably on Instagram of someone just watercoloring stripes of different colors across the card front and then just writing the greeting on the card front on the colored stripes or in between the stripes. Such an easy idea and so creative! I remembered that we have this one die in the Friends For Life Dies that kind of looks like a painted stripe!

To make this card after I had the idea, I chose some colors of cardstock in the Neutrals Family. It would have been fine, but I wanted something a little more colorful yet still be a masculine card. I decided on Mossy Meadow, Misty Moonlight, Pecan Pie and then for a pop of color, Crazy Cajun and Crushed Curry. I die cut a strip in each of those colors.

A regular size card seemed too large, so I decided on a 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ square card. The Pecan Pie card base is 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ folded in half. The card layer is the new color Basic Beige. Then I just adhered each colored stripe on the Basic Beige. Because that heart outline die existed in the set, I decided a heart on a Father’s Day card would be fine. I cut it out of Cherry Cobbler because I didn’t want a bright Real Red. I remembered to use an Adhesive Sheet on the back of the cardstock before I cut out the heart so I wouldn’t have to try to add glue to the back of this very thin heart.

For a greeting, I liked the “Love You” in the Friends For Life Stamp Set. It was risky, but I stamped it on the Crushed Curry stripe in Memento Ink even though I had already glued down that piece. Luckily, I didn’t mess it up! I adhered the heart and couldn’t resist added a few little diecut hearts that also had the Adhesive Sheet on the back of them so they were like stickers also.

To keep it easy, I just used a Moonlight Mist Stampin’ Write Marker, the brush tip, to write “Dad” in the space at the bottom. If you had a small alphabet set or small alphabet dies, you could easily do something with those on your card, especially if you made a regular size card with more space.

Lots of possible ways to make a card similar to this just by changing the colors, running the stripes vertically, writing a different greeting, adding more embellishments. Of course you can put on any kind of greeting to make a card for another occasion.

Bright & Beautiful Father’s Day Card

Bright & Beautiful Father's Day Card

Father’s Day is Sunday, June 16th! Do you have a card ready? This Bright & Beautiful Father’s Day Card is an easy one for you. But that’s not a Father’s Day card, you might say, because it doesn’t say “Happy Father’s Day” on the front. If you don’t have that exact greeting, there are many others you can use for the important father in your life! Just look through your stash! Even just a “Celebrate” or “Love” will do just fine. I pulled out this Circle Sayings Stamp Set, forgetting that it retired recently, but that’s okay because it illustrates how you can use another kind of greeting for a Father’s Day card.

I looked through some of my designer papers, and decided this Bright & Beautiful 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper would make a good card for a father. There were several different papers I considered using but I settled on this one with little blue stars and a solid blue background.

The card base is Blueberry Bushel cardstock, one of the several blues that goes with these papers. I cut the solid blue designer paper at 5 1/4″ x 4″ for a layer, and then I just added two rectangles of the stars paper to two corners. Those two rectangles are cut at 2″ x 2 5/8″. Yes, that took some math! Half the width of 4″ and half the length of 5 1/4″.

If you made a card design like this, you could stamp a greeting and cut out with a rectangle shape or with a die. I used several circle punches but you could use circle dies. Whatever works for the greeting you want to use and the size. For my greeting, I have a background circle of Blueberry Bushel and then the center circle is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. I had also added some Blueberry Bushel Stampin’ Write Marker around the edge just to give it a tiny bit of color to help it stand out.

I thought I was finished, but I decided to add a bow. I took the Lemon Lolly Baker’s Twine in the Baker’s Twine Three Color Pack and colored it with the Dark Blueberry Bushel Stampin’ Blend marker and adhered it with a Mini Glue Dot.

If you like this card, you could use it for another occasion besides Father’s Day! It’s a good design, easy to make, and you can add any greeting and use any designer paper to make it! Be sure to check out the Father’s Day card I made the other day HERE or put Father’s Day in the Search Box over on the right and see what comes up from previous years!

Full Of Life Father’s Day Card

Full Of Life Father's Day Card

Did you realize Father’s Day is sneaking up on us? Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 16th! It’s time to make a card for the dad in your life! This Full Of Life Father’s Day Card is very quick and easy to make! I didn’t have any good ideas for a card, but thought I would start by looking through my designer paper. I pulled out a couple of possibilities, but when I came to the Full of Life 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper I wondered if I could use something in there! Maybe for the more artistic type of dad. But actually, I think this paper could be used for any dad!

First I pulled out the pattern with the larger squares of colors. But then I came upon this paper with greens and blues. When I figured out I could write “Happy Father’s Day” in the color swatches and it would still fit on a card base, I decided to use this paper. The size of the paper is just slightly different than the exact size we would normally cut a piece of designer paper to be the card’s front layer, but I was trying to cut in between the swatches without cutting any of them off. It worked out great.

The card base is Shady Spruce. I used a Shady Spruce Stampin’ Write Marker to print the words “Happy Father’s Day” on the card. I used the brush end, which was the perfect size. I had thought I would use the bullet end but it wasn’t strong enough to show up on the swatches. I don’t have the newest alphabet but if you had something the right size, you could die cut the letters to spell the greeting and adhere them onto the swatches. But the marker worked perfectly and I didn’t mess up the printing!

Not one to leave well enough alone, even on a Father’s Day card, I couldn’t resist using a few of the gems in the Tinsel Gems 3-Pack. I used the Misty Moonlight and Lost Lagoon gems.

On the inside of the card, I added a Basic White layer decorated with two strips of scraps that matched the paper. Normally I would only add one strip to the bottom of the Basic White, but in this case, I added a top strip also. There is still room to stamp or write a personal message.

If you don’t have this paper, you could make your own by coloring some light color swatches with any of your markers or do a little watercoloring with your ink reinkers!

Have fun making a Father’s Day card for someone special!

New Horizons Father’s Day Card

New Horizons Father's Day Card

Nothing like making a card at the last minute, but if you are too, I offer you this idea for a New Horizons Father’s Day Card! Father’s Day is Sunday, June 19 so better get busy if you haven’t made a Father’s Day card yet! This one will be for my husband. It also was a good opportunity to use this New Horizons Bundle before it retires on June 30 and the New Horizons Designer Series Paper (retired).

The card base is Garden Green cardstock. I used one of the prettiest pieces of the New Horizons Designer Paper as the layer, if you still have some from the Spring Mini Catalog. I die cut two pieces of fence from the Horizon Dies. I absolutely love these little fences! I cut them from Crumb Cake cardstock and then I shaded them a bit with the Light and Dark Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends markers. It just gave them a little aging and I just did it very sloppily, not trying to achieve perfection at all. I just kind of scribbled along the edges of the fence posts. Try it!

The “sign” for the greeting is actually a die cut piece of the wood sheets we had not long ago. I shaded it a tiny bit with the same Blends around the edges and made a few lines across to look like wood grain using the fine tip of the marker.

The greeting is stamped two different ways! I stamped the word “Relax” and then cut around it with Paper Snips. The second part is stamped by inking up only that second line of words with the Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker. Then I die cut with a narrow die in the Sending Dies. On the back of the wood sheet piece I just kind of twirled around some Linen Thread and then popped it up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Be sure to keep your eye on the Last Chance Products these last couple of weeks. Some are on sale and some are not so do the math before you buy a Bundle which might be more expensive than buying the pieces separately if they are discounted. This New Horizons Bundle is not discounted individually so you are better off buying the Bundle which is 10% less than the individual prices. Also remember to check out the Clearance Rack and see if you need any of those bargains!

If you haven’t made a Father’s Day card for your dad, your husband, your grandfather…it’s time to do it today! Maybe this New Horizons Father’s Day Card will get you inspired!

In Good Taste Masculine Father’s Day Card

In Good Taste Masculine Father's Day Card

Father’s Day is coming up on Sunday, June 21, 2020, and this In Good Taste Masculine Father’s Day Card might be one you would want to make. Or just keep it in mind for any masculine card occasion. I actually used a sample in the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog on page 124 to copy. You can use the samples in the catalog for ideas and inspiration whether you copy exactly or change it up to something slightly different or a lot different!

We often think we don’t have enough ideas or the right stamps or supplies for masculine cards. I think if you take a good look at the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper you will find many of the patterns that would be perfect for a masculine card, not to mention any other cards! For this card, I looked through the pack of papers several times before settling on this particular paper. It’s a brown and gray (I think!) tweed, maybe like you would find on a carpet or rug or of course a piece of fabric. Every sheet of this In Good Taste DSP looks real! You will probably at least once touch the piece of paper to make sure it’s not really 3D! The paper is designed from great photographic images!

Once I had my designer paper pattern chosen, I chose Basic Gray Cardstock for the card base with a layer of Crumb Cake with just a thin margin before adhering the designer paper.

To decorate the card, I used the Tasteful Touches Stamp Set. I stamped the little squares on the one stamp on the card front in just a couple places with White Craft Ink, but it didn’t turn out very well! Then I stamped the greeting on a piece of Whisper White Cardstock and die cut with one of the Tasteful Labels Dies. I thought it looked a little plain so I stamped those same squares on it with Crumb Cake Ink (I think stamped off first.). And in copying the catalog sample (except I turned the card sideways) I added a piece of Crumb Cake, just a scrap, partially behind the greeting.

Since I liked the stamp with the sprig of leaves, I stamped that on several different browns. I actually thought there was a die to cut them out, but I had to cut them out by hand! I wasn’t even sure what I would do with them, but ended up, as you can see, sticking them to the sides of the greeting.

The right side of the card looked a little bare so I tied some retired twine around the card. I thought it was Linen Thread at first but it is thicker so it is some un-named twine! And since I can’t resist, I added a few of the In Color Enamel Dots in the Bumblebee color.

And that’s it! A card you can use for Father’s Day for one of the men in your life. It has lots of different textures to make it interesting. You could keep the card the same and change the greeting. Use a “Happy Father’s Day” stamp or something for a birthday or graduation for a boy. Lots of masculine card ideas just because of the paper. And of course the paper can be used on cards and projects for anyone!

If you don’t own this In Good Taste DSP yet but want to make something like this card, use an embossing folder to give the front of the card some texture or do some random stamping on the card. Then just continue on and make something with the look and feel of this In Good Taste Masculine Father’s Day Card!

Father’s Day Masculine Card With Rooted In Nature

Father's Day Masculine Card With Rooted In Nature

Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 16th, so it is time to make a Father’s Day card for your father or husband or whoever you want to celebrate on this day. This card, Father’s Day Masculine Card With Rooted In Nature, I will probably give my husband, but as you can see, it could be for anyone anytime! You can say it’s a “masculine” card but really it could be for anybody. We just often feel challenged to make a card for men for some reason.

You can barely see in the photo, but the card base is Whisper White with a little extra margin before I added another layer of Whisper White stamped with the Buffalo Check stamp for a checked background. This was then layered on a piece of Crumb Cake with a narrow margin showing.

After I stamped the Buffalo Check design, I used a ruler and an Old Olive Stampin’ Write Marker to draw lines in between the checks for a little extra color and interest.

The greeting and the tree are from the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set. I don’t think I have a “Happy Father’s Day” stamp in my current stamp sets (and I didn’t want to dig in my retired stuff!) so this sentiment will be fine (and truthful!). It is stamped in Crumb Cake ink on a Whisper White strip, then layered on a piece of Garden Green Cardstock that was embossed with the Subtle Embossing Folder. I tied around a piece of Linen Thread (or a scrap of something I found that I think is Linen Thread!) and then popped up the tree on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

About the tree…..I inked up the tree not with ink pads but with a marker and Sponge Daubers! I chose several green ink pads, from light to dark, and used individual Sponge Daubers to tap on the tree leaves. It’s difficult to see where you have “daubed” on the ink and it looks like I mostly covered the lighter ink with the darker. But I like the tree anyway. Then I colored in the trunk with the Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker and tried to find a few branches inside the leaves to ink up. I think it turned out fine!

As I said, I have most likely made this card for my husband for Father’s Day on Sunday, unless I make another one I like better. He opens the card, looks at it, then puts it down (and I get a hug and kiss!). Then a few days later, I pick it up off his table and put it with my other sample cards I have made! But I think you can see that while this card will work for Father’s Day or a birthday card for a man in your world, this card could be for anyone anytime. I wanted to use a stamp set from the old catalog in case you don’t have your new stamp sets yet. Maybe you have this one!

And if you need another idea with this Rooted in Nature Stamp Set, here is another “masculine” card I made for a birthday, but again, just put on a Father’s Day greeting (or something similar) and you have a great Father’s Day card! And if you have Lovely As a Tree (retired), that’s another great stamp set for making a Father’s Day card!
