Full of Life Turkey Thanksgiving Card

Full of Life DSP

Here is a whimsical Thanksgiving turkey I came up with while thinking about a new Thanksgiving card. I’ve seen cards with turkeys made in different ways, so I thought maybe I’d use some kind of designer series paper. The first one that popped into my head was the Full of Life 6″x 6″ Designer Series Paper, with its watercolor designs and many different colors, including fall colors.

As I looked through all the papers, I came across this one pattern with the triangle designs and I thought this paper could be used for turkey feathers. I cut the design apart so I would have lots of colors to use for turkey tail feathers.

For the turkey body, I looked through the Meandering Meadows 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper and found this brownish design on “the other side” of one of the meadow patterned papers. I used two stitched circle dies in the Stylish Shapes Dies to make the turkey body and head.

To adhere the tail feathers, I applied a lot of Stampin’ Seal adhesive to the back of the largest circle, arranged the triangle pieces how I liked them, and stuck them to the adhesive. To adhere the body and feathers to the card I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue so that I could apply some to the tips of all the feathers and all the rest of the turkey. It is adhered onto another pattern in the Full of Life Designer Paper that has colors of green and orange for a background. The card base is Pecan Pie cardstock.

I adhered the turkey head onto the body and a little heart shape for his waddle, cut from a die in the Friends For Life Dies. The beak is cut from a piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock. The eyes are made with a punch I had and I colored in the black pupils with a marker. The hat is made with a 3/4″ x 3/4″ square of Basic Black and a little strip for the brim, plus a Daffodil Delight hat band. The turkey legs are two ends of a Real Red banner diecut just because I had it nearby.

The greeting is in the Choose Happy Stamp Set! I was surprised to find the word Thanksgiving in there but I searched “Happy Thanksgiving” in the Stampin’ Up! online store and the Choose Happy Stamp Set came up! I wasn’t sure if I would have a banner going across the turkey, but I decided to cut the stamped words to be separate and I liked that look. For a final touch, I added some Gold Textured Dots.

This is just one idea of how to make a Thanksgiving turkey for a card! You can play around with what supplies you have and make your own version!

Spotlight On Nature Fall Card

Spotlight on Nature Fall Card

I’m trying to make it fall weather here in Houston with this Spotlight On Nature Fall Card! I think it might be working because while the temperatures might not go down very much, the air should be drier, which means everything in this very humid climate! So I’m doing what I can with fall colors on this card!

This Spotlight On Nature Stamp Set is a very nice one. The set has very pretty basic elements of nature – flowers, leaves, and a butterfly. You can use each one separately or a couple of them together as I did on this card. There are no dies that match up with the stamp images, but instead, there are sets of circular dies, sizes that layer together. Use these dies not just with the Spotlight On Nature Stamp Set but independently as layers for other stamps, for frames, or for tags. These are the Spotlight On Nature Dies.

This card has a Pumpkin Pie cardstock base to coordinate with the colorful layer of the Full of Life 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. As bold and colorful as a lot of the patterns of paper are in this package, this pattern with various shades of orange and green can be used on this card as fall colors without looking too strong. There were other good choices I could have used with this paper.

The flowers were stamped with Memento Ink on Basic White cardstock, then diecut with one of the Spotlight On Nature Dies. These dies are especially pretty to use because they each have an interesting detail around the border of the die. This floral diecut was then layered on a larger diecut of Granny Apple Green cardstock.

The flowers and leaves are colored in with Stampin’ Blends markers. I used a little bit of Daffodil Delight yellow on the flowers first and then the Pumpkin Pie shades. The leaves are colored with Granny Apple Green shades plus a tiny bit of Daffodil Delight. The greeting is in the Spotlight Of Nature Stamp Set and is stamped on Basic White with Memento Ink, then diecut with an interesting die in the Unbounded Love Dies.

There are several options for embellishing this card, but I chose to keep it simple and just added three Iridescent Foil Gems around the flowers. You could add some ribbon to the flowers or a tiny bow on the greeting if you wanted to do something different.

This stamp set could be used for multiple seasons or occasion. Sometimes it is nice to have a simple stamp set in your collection for quick, easy but elegant cards.

Full of Life Layering Leaves Autumn Card

Full of Life Layering Leaves Autumn Card

Does this Full of Life Layering Leaves Autumn Card make you think of fall? As I was looking through this designer paper, I thought the colors of this particular pattern looked like autumn. Maybe it’s wishful thinking on my part since it is nearly 100 degrees here in Houston every day for the foreseeable future, likely until November (well, maybe a “slight” exaggeration, but not much!). I thought if I paired some leaves with this paper it would give the impression of autumn!

The paper I used is the Full of Life Designer Series Paper. This pack of paper is 6″ x 6″ and has all kinds of colorful patterns as well as “the other side” of the paper with softer colors that you can use as backgrounds. If you like color and fun patterns and designs, then this paper is for you! Best of all, you can save 15% on the cost when you purchase it during the Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper Sale during August!

The card base is Pumpkin Pie with a layer of Old Olive. There are so many colors you can use with this Full of Life DSP. We all have so many choices for leaves we could use for this card to make it look like autumn. You can stamp or diecut leaves and we have plenty of stamp sets and dies to choose from with those items. I chose the Layering Leaves Stamp Set, which is a carryover into the new Annual Catalog from last year. You’ll find it on page 77 in the Encore Section of the catalog. I always thought it had beautiful and useful sentiments in this set.

For the focal point of this card, I diecut a piece of Basic White with the largest banner shape in the Nesting Essentials Dies. I kind of turned it into my own piece of designer paper by stamping different leaves in different colors all over the banner piece. I used some fall colors like Old Olive, Shaded Spruce, Crushed Curry, and Pumpkin Pie. For a layer, I just cut out a piece of Old Olive cardstock and trimmed out the banner shape at the bottom since there was no larger banner die to use.

Here is a card I made last year with the Layering Leaves Stamp Set which is much like I made the banner on this card.

Because I had stamped all over the banner, I needed a way to have the greeting stand out. I stamped my greeting on Basic White and cut it out with a banner shape in the Stylish Shapes Dies. The greeting is stamped in Pumpkin Pie ink and is in the Layering Leaves Stamp Set. I popped it up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then I used some new Natural Tones Linen Thread coming in the Nests of Winter Suite in the Holiday Mini Catalog, doubled, to tie a bow and adhere with a Mini Glue Dot. I used the Garden Green color. There are three colors of linen thread in the package.

That’s my first card for fall! Instead of stamping the leaves, you could use any shape, stamp the greeting, and then use diecut leaves around the edges. Lots of possibilities!

August is almost half over already and September comes next! In lots of parts of the country, that will mean fall is coming so it’s not crazy to start working on fall cards and projects!
