Stampin’ Up! is having a virtual event on the second Saturday in November called OnStageAtHome 2023 and I was one of the lucky “several thousand” people who registered early enough to get this free gift box! It just arrived late yesterday and was so much fun I had to show you all the things in it!
You still have time to sign up to be a Demonstrator with Stampin’ Up!, get the special deal offered until October 31, and get to “attend” this virtual mini-convention on your computer FREE of charge! You will automatically be registered, and even if you can’t attend, you can watch a recording later. (But you won’t get a gift box, sorry!) And get previews of the upcoming Spring Mini Catalog!
Inside is a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle and all kinds of things!
Even a pair of Stampin’ Up! socks!! There are pens, a pin, photo props, and a quality notebook with little stickers!
I knew it was coming, but it was such a nice surprise when it arrived on my porch! I just had to show you all the goodies! And now I have a new pair of socks to wear! And don’t all of us papercrafters just go crazy over notebooks and pens?!! I always have!
We are all still very much in holiday mode, but it won’t be long until we’ll be looking forward to a change of pace and be ready for new spring products! It will be fun at this virtual OnStage to see what some of the new products will be! One of the best perks of being a Demonstrator!
It’s time to be wrapping packages this close to Christmas! If you need something cute for a small gift or treat, this easy triangle box might be just the thing for you! I’ve made a lot of them and they really are easy. Then you decorate however you like.
These are the basic instructions for how to make a Triangle Box:
Cut card stock in half lengthwise: 4 1/4″ x 11″
Score at 5 1/2″.
Mark the center of the strip on both ends at 2 1/8″ with a pencil mark.
Score with the Paper Trimmer at an angle, putting that center pencil mark on the track on the Paper Trimmer while also lining up the middle score line on that track.
Score both sides of the paper and both ends of the paper. That will make two triangles, one on each half of the paper.
Fold all the score lines and put the box together.
At the top point of the box punch holes for the ribbon to go through.
Somewhere I saw an idea like this: using a neutral color and a white pen to make the triangle box look like a Christmas tree. Of course, I couldn’t find it again, but I’m happy with my own version!
I chose Crumb Cake Cardstock for the neutral-colored tree. Before assembling, I just drew little white lines with a white gel pen to make it look like tree needles, I suppose. To tie the top closed I used a Gold & Vanilla 3/8″ Satin Edged Ribbon.
For the top of the tree, I found a retired star punch and some retired gold glitter paper (you could use Gold Foil Sheets, too). I punched a couple of extra gold stars and decided to use them on the front of the tree. It still needed a little more, so I used the Adhesive Backed Season Sequins in gold to fill in the tree.
Now the triangle box is ready to put a gift or treat inside and then tie up the bow at the top! Try one and see how easy it is! You could emboss the cardstock before assembling it if you like. Decorate one for any occasion!
Recently I needed a birthday gift for someone, and after finding a little notebook at the bookstore that nearly matched our Sale-A-Bration Sunshine & Rainbows 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper, I got an idea! I bought the notebook and then made four note cards to match! Next, I needed some kind of box or bag to put the note cards and envelopes in so the photo above is the top of the gift box I made.
To make these cards I just used the Note Cards & Envelopes which made it so easy! You should really keep a package or two of these on hand! I have used them many times. The designer paper on the note cards are two different patterns in the Sunshine & Rainbows Designer Paper that was available during Sale-A-Bration which just ended. Perhaps you already have some from Sale-A-Bration. I die cut the rainbow pieces with the Brilliant Rainbow Dies. You can use whatever colors of cardstock or designer paper that you like. I used Poppy Parade, Crushed Curry, Bermuda Bay, and Gorgeous Grape. I was trying to copy the colors in the rainbows on the notebook as best I could. I also die cut the little clouds with the dies. I adhered the rainbows to a scalloped rectangle die cut, one of the Scalloped Contours Dies. I also added some Iridescent Rhinestone Basic Jewels to each note card.
After I had the note cards made, I wanted a cute bag or box to put the note cards and envelopes in. There are lots of box ideas out there online and once you know the basic principles you can vary the size box and lid that you need to make. I found one from the Paper Pixie that was specifically made for note cards so I used those measurements and then, of course, decorated the box lid to match my cards.
Here is the diagram, basically the same idea for the box bottom and the lid. Each has different measurements but you score and cut the same way on each. I tried making a more professional sketch on the computer but it was a mess and this was easier to just draw it!!
The box bottom starts with a piece of cardstock that is 7 3/4″ x 9 1/4″. Score at 1″ and 2″ on all four sides.
The box lid measures 6 3/8″ x 7 7/8″ but just a “smidge” less on each measurement, just a sliver! Score at 5/8″ and 1 1/4″ on all sides.
Crease and fold all score lines on the box and the lid. Use a Bone Folder if you have one to get a good crease. Then open the folded cardstock back up and following the diagram above, cut from the bottom up to the scoreline on each red line with the arrow. Turn the paper and do the same to the other end. Then cut off the squares where the X’s are. After that, you can see how the sides and tabs will fold in and form the box and the lid.
It’s probably best to use Tear & Tape to adhere the box and lid, but Multipurpose Liquid Glue works, too. Or use Stampin’ Seal+ to hold everything together. Apply the Tear & Tape to the outside edge of all the sides. You can use a bit of Multipurpose Liquid Glue on each tab to hold those in place first.
Before you assemble the box lid, you might want to decorate it first, but you could assemble it first, too. For my lid, I used a layer of Crushed Curry Cardstock under a layer of the Rainbow & Sunshine DSP. Then I die cut the rainbow with Basic White and fit it over one of the big rainbow patterns in the package. Just cut out a full rainbow carefully, they are placed closely together! Just cut a rectangle shape of the rainbow, don’t cut out the actual rainbow. Place the die-cut white piece over the DSP rainbow and adhere carefully. I also layered this on a piece of the DSP that matched one of the cards. To embellish I die cut a couple of white clouds and added some Iridescent Rhinestones.
Making a box is easier than writing about it so just give it a try! It’s handy to know how to make a box out of cardstock in case you need one for a gift or storage.
Doesn’t this Fine Art Floral Small Gift Box make you want to find a reason to give someone a gift? It’s a basic pattern to make the box and the new Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper will make any project look gorgeous! You will be able to purchase this paper tomorrow, January 5th from the new January-June 2021 Mini Catalog with all kinds of new products for spring. Although we enjoyed the Holiday Catalog, it feels good to have a fresh start with this new Spring Mini!
This box is easy to make and you can modify it for a shorter size or just adjust the measurements if you want it a little narrower or wider.
My drawing isn’t perfect but along with the measurements I think you can follow along.
Box piece: 10 1/2″ x 6″ (on my diagram above I wrote 10″ going all the way across the paper but it is 10 1/2″.)
Scoring across the paper in landscape position, score at 2 1/2″, 5″, 7 1/2″ and 10″. Turn the paper to portrait position (narrow edge, up and down), score at 2 1/2″ to form the bottom flaps of the box.
I used Poppy Parade Cardstock but if you happen to use designer paper to make the box itself, make sure you check if there is a pattern than needs to go a certain direction.
Cut up on all those score lines in landscape position from the bottom up to the 2 1/2″ score line going across. This makes the bottom flaps for the box. On my diagram, those are the flaps at the top of the picture. Cut off that little 1/2″ piece at the end.
For the box lid, cut a piece of cardstock 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″. Now if you score at 1″ on all sides, you may find that the lid will be too tight to fit on the box without squishing the box inward. So what I did is I scored just a “smidge” outside the 1″ mark. So actually I scored at 15/16″ instead of exactly 1″. That gave me the tiniest bit of extra space for the lid to fit properly. Cut up to the score line as you see in the diagram.
To decorate the box, I used the new Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper. You can modify these measurements if you want less of a margin on the box. For the sides of the box, I cut 4 pieces of designer paper at 3 1/4″ x 2 1/4″. For the lid, cut a piece at 2 1/4″ x 2 1/4″. You could also put the paper on the sides of the lid, but I wanted to let the Poppy Parade show. Remember to pay attention to the direction of the pattern.
Poppy Parade is one of the colors that coordinates with the designer paper but there are many others! Usually there are just a few colors that coordinate with the designer paper but this one has many colors! I chose this particular pattern of the paper because the flowers were a little smaller and would fit better on the box.
To finish my box, I tied a piece of the new Fine Art 3/8″ Ribbon around the middle of the box. This ribbon is gold in color and very soft. I could also have tied it up around the box so the bow would be on the top of the lid. Or I could have stamped a greeting and added it to the front of the box. Whatever you want to do to embellish your box, although with this beautiful paper, it doesn’t need much!
This paper and ribbon will be available tomorrow, Tuesday January 5 but don’t forget to check the retiring holiday products in the Year-End Giant Closeout in the Stampin’ Up! Online Store. And there are just a few things left on the Clearance Rack! Today is the LAST DAY for the Closeout!!
Make a few gift boxes here at the beginning of the year and you will have some handy for those gift-giving occasions coming up in the new year! Try this Fine Art Floral Small Gift Box just to get the idea and then you can modify it for whatever you need!
It’s time to give yourself a present, like the paper and ribbon to make this Ornate Garden Handmade Gift Box!
Order new products from the brand new Stampin’ Up! Catalog!
That’s right! The new Stampin’ Up! 2020-21 Catalog went live yesterday and there was certainly a flurry of orders, judging from a few glitches on the website, which usually happens on such an exciting day! Customers and Demonstrators were trying to get their orders in as quickly as possible so they could get their hands on the new products as quickly as possible!
If you have a large order, keep in mind these amounts:
A $150 or higher order of merchandise earns 10% or more in Hostess Rewards (see page 187).
June 3-30 a $250 order earns an EXTRA $25 in Hostess Rewards!!
Remember, there are Bundles in the new catalog that will save you 10% if you buy the two items together. Make sure you are putting in the correct number for the Bundle, not just the stamp set. I think it is a little trickier to spot the Bundle on the catalog pages but just look!
There are now a few Collections, such as the Ornate Garden Suite Collection on page 64 or the World of Good Suite Collection on page 24. If you want EVERYTHING that goes together….the stamp set, the dies, the paper, the ribbon, the embellishments…you can just put in that one number for the Collection. You will still get the 10% discount if there is a Bundle involved, but if you don’t like the ribbon or don’t want the embellishments, then just order the individual items you want.
As you look through the back of the catalog, with the tools and accessories, you may notice that the listings are a little confusing. There are numbers on the product photo that you then need to match up with the number of the listing and description of the product. I found that particularly confusing on the page with rhinestones, sequins, dots, etc. You can’t just look across and see what is what, you have to match the numbers.
Watch for the tiny little red “N” symbol on the New products.
Read the “fine print” in the product descriptions to see if there are dies that coordinate and on what page to find them. There are a couple pages of Bundles in the back of the catalog with stamp sets and dies and then there are other pages with just dies, but they aren’t duplicated so you have to look in both places to see all the dies available.
Check out the new adhesives! Snail Adhesive is gone and replaced with the new Stampin’ Seal. Be sure to buy some refills when you order. The other new adhesive is the Stampin’ Seal+ (plus) which is stronger and replaces the old Fast Fuse we had once upon a time ago. And then we still have our other adhesives like the Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
The new Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machines on pages 170-1 and the Tools that go with them on page 172 are not available YET and we have no date when they will be available. They sure look cute and I hope they hurry up!
So back to my Ornate Garden Handmade Gift Box! After you treat yourself to some “gifts” from the new catalog, maybe you can make a box like this to store some adhesives in or ribbons or whatever.
I made this gift box just like I made THIS ONE recently on my blog.
To begin making the bottom of the box, you will cut the tiniest sliver off the side of two sides that share a common corner. To determine a “sliver” you can just slide your paper the teeny tiniest bit past the cutting track. It might not be even 1 1/16″ wide but you could use that measurement if you want. This makes the bottom just the tiniest bit smaller so that the box lid will fit easily over it.
Next, score at 2 1/2″ on all four sides of the box. Crease well with a Bone Folder to make the folds crisp, like a box should be. Then cut the flaps on opposite sides of the paper on the score lines. If you want, cut a small wedge off all four corners just to make the box bottom a little neater when the sides all come together.
After creasing all the folds really well, assemble the box and use a strong glue to assemble. You could use Tear & Tape but I like to use Multipurpose Liquid Glue to give me that extra few seconds to make sure everything is lined up perfectly.
For the top of the box, I used a sheet of the Ornate Garden Designer Series Paper but you could use cardstock too. The top piece is 10 1/2″ square. Make the top in the same way (except don’t cut off a sliver!). Score 1 3/4″ all around and cut the flaps in the same way. Assemble with glue and put the lid on the box! This allows part of the bottom of the box to show, if that’s what you want. The inside of the lid will also have a lovely paper pattern from the other side of the paper! Usually it is difficult to decide which side of the paper to use! This way both sides are seen!
You can watch a video by Donna Griffith from a few years ago about how to make these boxes and how to resize them to what you want!
I hope you are enjoying the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog! I always say to treat yourself once in awhile and I think this catalog has come out at the perfect time when we need to relax and use our stamping as therapy at times! Just paging through the catalog and getting ideas from the samples is relaxing and fun!
If you plan to be a Stampin’ Up! customer but don’t have a Demonstrator to assist you, I would be happy to be yours and send you a complimentary catalog if you would like one. Just send me your contact information.
With Mother’s Day coming up on Sunday, birthdays, and maybe graduations, even if virtual these days, you need to learn How to Make a Magnolia Lane Gift Box. It is so simple, as you will see and will make your gift extra-special, not to mention saving you a trip to the store to find a gift bag or box at the last minute!
This particular box is 7″ square and you do need two 12″ x 12″ pieces of paper. The bottom of the box is made with Petal Pink Cardstock and the top with a piece of Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper.
In the photo below, you can see the slivers I cut off from the two sides of the paper, so you can see how narrow they are.
After creasing all the folds really well, assemble the box and use a strong glue to assemble. You could use Tear & Tape but I like to use Multipurpose Liquid Glue to give me that extra few seconds to make sure everything is lined up perfectly.
For the top of the box, I used designer paper but you could use cardstock too. The top piece is 10 1/2″ square. Make the top in the same way (except don’t cut off a sliver!). Score 1 3/4″ all around and cut the flaps in the same way. Assemble with glue and put the lid on the box!
Tie a pretty ribbon around the gift box like this Petal Pink 5/8″ Organdy Ribbon. Add a nice card or pretty gift tag and you’ve got something special!
Here is another gift box I made a few years ago after following a video by Donna Griffith at the Stampin’ Up! Home Office. It’s what I followed to make this gift box and she also explains how to make different sizes.
Now might be a good time to use up some designer paper that will be retiring that you have left and turn it into something useful by making boxes so you will be ready for all the new products coming out in the next Stampin’ Up! Catalog on June 3rd! And your gift wrap stash will be ready for any gifts with a few boxes on hand!
Here’s an easy and cute From My Heart 2-4-6-8 Gift Box you can use for a small gift or treat for someone, maybe for Valentine’s Day or maybe just any time. It’s made with the fun Specialty Designer Series Paper, From My Heart. It’s in the new Occasions Mini Catalog and you know Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, in spite of my Christmas tree not completely taken down yet!
You’ve probably made lots of these 2-4-6-8 boxes of various sizes, but I know I always need a little refresher. For this box, I started with a piece of the designer paper 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″. Score at 2″, 4″, 6″ and 8″. Turn and score at 1 1/2″ (or 2″). These will be the bottom flaps so pay attention to the pattern on your paper, watching which way it is going so it doesn’t end up upside down.
Here is how my paper looked, although this was the inside of my box. You do cut off the little 1/2″ piece.
Assemble the box, putting adhesive on that 1/2″ piece on the side. Then pay attention to where the seam is and try to have that face the back. Fold in the bottom flaps, trying to make the front of the bag look nice with a flap fold, not the edge.
Decorate the front of the gift box. In some cases you might want to decorate before you assemble. I kept this one simple, but I wanted to try out the new Heart Punch Pack and the Heartfelt Stamp Set. I stamped the greeting and the heart outline in Real Red ink and then punched out the stamped heart plus one Real Red Cardstock heart. Since I wanted to layer them, I trimmed the Whisper White heart right up to the dotted outline. That made it a tiny bit smaller so I could layer it on the Real Red heart. Then I popped up the heart on the front of the box with Stampin’ Dimensionals®.
You could leave the top open or you can punch holes in the top and tie it closed with a ribbon, like this new Real Red 3/8″ Double-Stitched Satin Ribbon. Don’t forget to put your treat or gift inside before you tie it up! This would make a cute party favor bag or treat for a party.
Get the Heartfelt Bundle with the Heartfelt Stamp Set and the Heart Punch Pack and save 10%. You know you want new heart punches!
Remember, shop in $50 increments so you can choose free Sale-A-Bration products!
We’re entering a season of when you might have a lot of gift-giving occasions what with graduations, teacher gifts, engagements, and weddings so here is an easy Broadway Bound Handmade Gift Box. This designer paper is especially good to use because it is a heavier designer paper so it can stand up to be a box. It’s on the Last-Chance List so if you want some festive paper in your collection, be sure to pick this up! It’s the Broadway Bound Specialty Designer Series Paper which has party designs on one side and gold foil designs on the other.
This box is easy to make. This is a lesson is watching your patterns, as you can see on the inside of the box. The outside didn’t matter but the party hats are going sideways! Not that it is a huge problem, but you want to try to have your patterns going in the correct direction! So I should have turned my paper the other way when I scored it.
Here are the dimensions. Start with paper, whether cardstock or designer paper, 9″ x 8 1/4″ Score the long side at 2″ and 7″. Score the short side at 2″, 4″, 6″ and 8″. So essentially it is a 2-4-6-8 box, just on its side!
Here is a diagram. Start with the 9″ side up at the top of the Stampin’ Trimmer or the Simply Scored Scoring Tool. Score down at 2″ and 7″. Then turn the paper so the 8 1/4″ is at the top and score at 2″, 4″, 6″, and 8″. That will leave the 1/4″ edge. Cut off that little narrow corner. Cut up on both sides of the paper the score lines to the 2″ and 7″ score lines. Now that first tab next to the 1/4″ edge…..cut off half of that on each…..just eyeball it. That makes the tabs to close the box. Crease and fold on all the lines and assemble the box. You’ll see how it goes once you start folding. Use some strong adhesive on the ends to hold close.
That’s how easy it is to make a little gift box. Much quicker and easier than running out to the store for one! If you use plain cardstock, you can add layers of designer paper or stamp it first if you want to jazz it up. No matter what paper you use, you can make a small gift box like this Broadway Bound Handmade Gift Box.
