Mediterranean Blooms Hello Card

Mediterranean Blooms Hello Card

My thought was let’s make something besides “new” or Valentine for this post! I looked through my designer papers and ended up with this Mediterranean Blooms Hello Card. After making a lot of simpler cards lately, I’m inclined to call this card a “masterpiece”. And that made me think that we stampers should more often think of our creations as “masterpieces” because they really are unique and special and while stamping is simple enough that anyone can do it, each card we make is almost always pretty special!

For this card I used a sample in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog with the Mediterranean Blooms Suite for inspiration. Or to copy, you might say! As always, though, mine came out slightly different from the original sample. You can see it on page 34 of the Annual Catalog.

The card base is Night of Navy cardstock. I think the sample may have used a piece of cardstock stamped with the small images in the stamp set randomly for a background. I used a piece of the Mediterranean Blooms Designer Series Paper for the background. On top of that designer paper I adhered a diecut leafy frame piece. This piece was cut out of Basic White cardstock using two dies in the Citrus Blooms Dies set. One die is the leafy design but there is also a frame with decorative corners to be placed around it so that the edge is diecut in a decorative way. You can place these two dies together on the paper and run through the Stampin’ Up! Cut & Emboss Machine or you can cut out the leafy frame leaving a border around the edge and then run that through separately with the frame.

In the center I have a piece of Boho Blue cardstock, cut at 1″ x 4″. It is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. I used some Lemon Lolly twine from the Baker’s Twine Three Color Pack to wrap around this Boho Blue piece and around the designer paper that will layer on the cardstock. This was done before anything was adhered to the card base. In the sample, the different thread went under the center piece and around the entire card, meaning the thread would show on the inside of the card, which is fine, I’m just describing the placement. I also tied a separate bow and adhered it with a single glue dot underneath.

To embellish the card design, I diecut a bunch of leaves out of Soft Sea Foam cardstock. It would have been good to use Adhesive Sheets underneath before diecutting since the leaves are so narrow, but I just put tiny dots of glue on the backs of the leaves. I have a special bottle that does put out tiny drops of glue, but otherwise I would probably make a puddle of the Multipurpose Liquid Glue on a scrap piece of cardstock and use a toothpick to apply it to the small pieces. I just stuck these leaves randomly under the center piece, so you don’t want a solid piece of adhesive foam underneath the Boho Blue piece because you want to be able to find space for the leaves to go underneath.

Now if you like the Soft Sea Foam green but want a little bit more color in it, you can take a Soft Sea Foam Stampin’ Blend, in both Light and Dark, to just “slightly” add color to the leaves for a little shading. If you forget, you can still do it after they are adhered on the card, just don’t get the ink on the white leafy frame.

The greeting on the card is stamped with two stamps in the Citrus Blooms Stamp Set. The white circle is diecut with one of the small circles in the Stylish Shapes Dies. “Hello” is stamped in Night of Navy ink. The second greeting is just stamped on a strip of Lemon Lolly cardstock, also in Night of Navy ink. The circle is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. The word strip is adhered flat over the circle with a Stampin’ Dimensiona or two to hold up the end.

There are die cut flowers out of Daffodil Delight with dies in the Citrus Blooms Dies. I tried to poke the center of some of these to make the petals stick up a little bit. These are just glued down randomly. Finally, I used some Opal Rounds gems in Clear and one Daffodil Delight in the center of the one large flower above the greeting. You could use many other gems, sequins, or jewels to embellish this card.

Here is another Citrus Blooms card I made and used the same die frame to cut out designer paper for the background of the card.

Mediterranean Blooms Hello Card

Mediterranean Blooms Hello Card

This Mediterranean Blooms Hello Card came about from just getting out a package of designer paper and looking over all the patterns. This is a good way to start when you want to make a card but have no particular design in mind. When a certain paper strikes you, start with that and see where it takes you!

For this card, I liked the large “tile” design of the designer paper, and I thought maybe it would pair well with the smallest blue and white design. The card base is Night of Navy. The designer paper is the Mediterranean Blooms Designer Series Paper. I love this paper with the look of hand-painted tiles, greenery, and citrus. I used two different patterns on this card plus some Balmy Blue cardstock to help the large tile design stand out a little from the background paper.

The designer series paper used for the background layer on the card base (the small design) is cut at 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″. If you want a wider margin of the Night of Navy around the edge of the card, just do the normal size of 4″ x 5 1/4″. The large tile design is cut at 5 3/8″ x 2 3/4″. Now to get the floral tile in the center of this panel, I had to use a ruler and figure out where to cut the paper on the sides to center that design. So you may have to “waste” a little designer paper to do this, but save the scraps! You can always use them another way! The Balmy Blue cardstock is just strips to adhere along the sides of the large tile design. Mine were cut at 5 3/8″ x 1/2″ but they can be wider if that is what you already have. Just adhere them to the back of the panel so that there is just a thin amount showing. The Liquid Glue works best for this because you have that “wiggle” time to get those strips adhered straight and even.

The greeting is stamped in Night of Navy ink on a Basic White scrap of cardstock and diecut with a small rectangular die in the Country Side Corners Dies. The greeting is in the Simply Said Stamp Set. I wanted a bolder greeting to stand out better than the ones in the Citrus Blooms Stamp Set that goes with the paper.

For the little blue bow, I used white Baker’s Twine in the Baker’s Twine Essentials Pack. But I colored it with the Light Balmy Blue Stampin’ Blend Marker. Just lay the twine on a scrap piece of paper, like computer paper, and gently rub the marker along the twine. Turn it and make sure the twine is colored all the way around. I adhered the bow to the greeting with a Mini Glue Dot. I also added two Rainbow Adhesive-Backed Dots in Balmy Blue.

I made another card using the smaller size tile design in the background behind the oranges!

When I started, I didn’t know what I was going to make, but I’m really pleased with how this card turned out! Use your package of designer paper for inspiration when you are stuck!

Citrus Blooms Best Kind of Person Card

Citrus Blooms Best Kind of Person Card

This Citrus Blooms Best Kind of Person Card is my first card using the Mediterranean Blooms Suite that I got recently. You’ll find it in the new Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog on pages 34-35. The designer paper in the Suite is what sold me, but the whole collection of products is beautiful. If you like these citrus images and tile designs, you will love this group of products!

Luckily, a Bundle Sale is coming Wednesday, June 5th, saving you an extra 10% over the Bundle price of 10% off normally for the stamp set and dies together. If you would like to purchase the Citrus Blooms Bundle June 5-30 is the time to get it! And if you don’t already own the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine or the Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, these will be on sale 10% off also! Check out all the Bundles and make your shopping list!

To make this card, I started with an idea from a sample in the Annual Catalog. I did change the background paper and the greeting. When you start off with a brand new stamp set or Suite it’s often easier to copy an idea in the catalog. You’ll often start coming up with your own ideas for making it a little different as you copy the sample. That’s what the samples are there for in the catalog, to give us ideas of how to use the stamp sets!

The card base is Night of Navy. The Mediterranean Blooms Designer Series Paper has beautiful designs of fruits and tile designs. I chose a different tile design paper than the sample in the catalog and diecut it with the large outline die in the Citrus Blooms Dies. The oranges are stamped from the Citrus Blooms Stamp Set on Basic White Cardstock and then colored in with Stampin’ Blends Markers. You can use whatever colors and combinations of colors you like. You can combine two different colors, not just Light and Dark of one color. Just play and enjoy! After coloring, I diecut the oranges with the matching die. After adhering the designer paper to the card base, I adhered the oranges and leaves to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The greeting is in the stamp set. I stamped it in Night of Navy Ink on Basic White, then diecut with the smallest rectangle die in the Nested Essentials Dies. Since I didn’t have much room on the card, I didn’t want to add a layer under the greeting, so I just used a Night of Navy Stampin’ Blend marker and ran it around the edge of the diecut greeting. I adhered a piece of Peach Pie 3/8″ Bordered Ribbon under the greeting. I ran some Stampin’ Seal Adhesive on the back of the ribbon. Then I popped up the greeting with Stampin’ Dimensionals over the ribbon. For a finishing touch (and because I just wanted to use them!) I added three of the Opal Rounds in Night of Navy. These come in three colors, Night of Navy, Daffodil Delight, and Clear in two different sizes.

On the inside of the card, since the Night of Navy cardstock is dark, I added a layer of Basic White Cardstock for stamping or writing a greeting or message and adhered a narrow strip of the same tile design I used on the front of the card at the bottom of the card insert. That really adds something when you stamp something or add some designer paper to the inside of the card!

I think anybody will be able to make beautiful and striking cards using even just the Mediterranean Blooms Designer Series Paper and even more using the Citrus Blooms Bundle. Remember, the Bundle will go on sale June 5th for the whole month of June!
