Ornate Garden Sponged Happy Card

Ornate Garden Sponged Happy Card

This Ornate Garden Sponged Happy Card came about it two ways today. First, I felt like I was either having an anxiety attack or coming down with “the virus” when one second before I was fine AND I saw a sample of a card online that was embossed but reminded me of this Ornate Garden Specialty Designer Series Paper with the gold foil accents on some sheets that made me think of sponging different colors of ink on the paper.

Here’s your anxiety tip of the day: Start looking online at cards and stamping videos and maybe better yet, force yourself to get up and start stamping! Get your mind off the news or whatever is going on in your mind that is not good for you!

Obviously I need a “Happy” card today so I chose three colors of ink from the Brights family (my favorite!)…..Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, and Granny Apple Green. I could have used Sponge Daubers, but I grabbed a small piece of sponge and just used a different side of it for each color of ink. Yes, you will get ink on your fingers but that’s okay. It will keep you happy all day! I just sponged around on the Ornate Garden Paper and then wiped off a bit with a tissue. Next, I just played around with those three colors of cardstock plus Whisper White to see what combination would look best, or at least that I liked, to actually assemble the card.

I finally decided on a Whisper White card base with a layer of Granny Apple Green. I found the Melon Mambo die cut from the Stitched Labels Dies in with my Melon Mambo paper but at first decided not to use it. I found the greeting I liked in the Modern Heart Stamp Set. I used a rectangular die in the Ornate Layers Dies but I used the technique of cutting it and then replacing the die over the same stitched lines to shorten the greeting piece.

I looked through my dies again to see what to layer the greeting on and found a die in the Stitched So Sweetly Dies that seemed to work. I cut that out of Granny Apple Green. As I thought about how that looked, I saw that Melon Mambo die-cut piece laying on the table and tried that behind it. I think it works! But I still felt like I wanted something else and finally adhered some Daffodil Delight 1/4″ Ruched Ribbon behind the Granny Apple Green and also popped that piece up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. I think the whole thing brings in all the colors of the ink and works out well with the sponged paper behind it and with the original intent of the card…. a Happy card!

Maybe today is the day for you to try some new technique or one like this. Remember to check the Last-Chance Products and the Clearance Rack in the Online Store! You will find some good bargains! Be sure to get what you need before it sells out!

In Colors Modern Heart Card

In Colors Modern Heart Card

Sometimes I saw “Know when to stop!” but for this In Colors Modern Heart Card I said to myself “Keep going!” My brilliant idea in my head was to play with the new In Colors that just came out in the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog. I had purchased the package of markers since the Purple Posy Ink is still unavailable. What I thought I would do was scribble each marker on an acrylic block and then stamp that on paper. As it turned out, I got the idea to use the Modern Heart Stamp Set and it has a squiggle stamp in it that served that purpose rather than the block.

I started by coloring on the squiggle stamp with each In Color and then stamping it on the Thick Whisper White Cardstock, since I was only going to use this for the card with no layers or anything else. Then I stamped the Modern Heart in Memento Black Ink over the stamped squiggle. Next I stamped the greeting from the same set, but it was all too blah. I stamped the smaller modern hearts 3 times in each In Color around the card, but I still didn’t like it. Then I stamped the teeny tiny heart in each color just once. Somehow just that teeny heart I thought made it look better. But still…..

I gave in and chopped the card front off and added In Color cardstock layers and card base and just used the stamped Whisper White piece as the top layer. That was better. When I looked in my drawer for some other embellishment I found these little epoxy gold hearts (retired from last year) and added three of those. Not sure I should have added those, but altogether, I was happier with this card.

Actually, I think part of the problem is maybe I’m not too fond of this years In Colors, but neither have I played with them much. Sometimes that’s what you need to do to like something! So as I said, usually I think don’t overdo things on a card, know when to stop. But in this case, continuing to add some things I think made it better. Not my best or my favorite, but stamped, nonetheless! Nice to just do stamping sometimes!

Modern Heart Anniversary Card

Modern Heart Anniversary Card

This Modern Heart Stamp Set is one that I skipped over initially and then soon discovered was kind of cute and had really nice sentiments. I love the fonts on the sentiments. You can stamp this heart many ways and make many types of cards with it. I made it a Modern Heart Anniversary Card for my husband.

You can just stamp the heart and color it in, or stamp in a color and leave it as is. You can stamp the “swooshy thing” and then stamp the heart over it. You can emboss the heart if you like some dimension. You can use the new Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper and use the new Pigment Sprinkles. So many opportunities for creativity!

In this case, I wanted to do some coloring using my Stampin’ Blends. I just stamped the heart on Whisper White in Memento Ink and used several shades of markers……Calypso Coral Combo, Mango Melody Combo, Pineapple Punch Combo, Balmy Blue Combo, Granny Apple Green Combo, Pool Party Combo, Highland Heather Combo and Night of Navy Dark just to color around the edge after I cut out the heart.

The background piece is from the Perennial Essence Designer Series Paper. I decided to add narrow strips of Basic Black to each side of the designer paper. Underneath the heart is a strip of Copper Foil that I decorated the edge with the straight die in the Stitched Nested Labels Dies.

The greeting is stamped in Memento Ink on Whisper White and punched with the 1″ Circle Punch. Then I layered it on the 1 1/8″ Scallop Circle Punch in Copper Foil. Both the heart and this greeting are popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals.
