Celebrate Sunflowers Thanks a Bunch Card

Celebrate Sunflowers Thanks a Bunch Card

I think a lot of us are going to miss making our sunflower cards after this stamp set retires so I thought I would make this Celebrate Sunflowers Thanks a Bunch Card. One house in our neighborhood had sunflowers growing tall in their backyard and peeking over the wooden privacy fence in the summertime. They were so pretty! I hope they come back this year.

When this Celebrate Sunflowers Stamp Set came out there were all kinds of examples of colors you could use to color in the stamped sunflower. The die was a little difficult to line up, but certainly nice to have to cut out all the edges of this flower! The Sunflower Dies are discounted during the Last Chance Sale and the Stamp Set is regular price.

I stamped this sunflower in Memento Ink and then colored it with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. You can choose whatever colors you like. I used the Light and Dark Daffodil Delight Blends to color the petals with a little Pumpkin Pie thrown in! The center is Soft Suede, both Light and Dark. The leaves are stamped and colored with a little bit of Daffodil Delight (someone who painted told me one time to always have a little yellow in with green), then colored with Light and Dark Granny Apple Green. You could use Old Olive or any green colors you like for leaves.

To make the card, I used a card base of Night of Navy cardstock and then chose the dark blue pattern in the Regency Park 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper for the front layer. The sunflower is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals and the three leaves are just adhered flat to the card.

The greeting is stamped in Night of Navy ink on a piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock, then cut out with one of the retiring Stitched Rectangles Dies. These dies are discounted on the Last Chance List. I wish they were staying around.

For some glitz, I added three gold sequins in the Pastel Adhesive-Backed Sequins. To see another card I made when this Sunflower Bundle first came out in 2020, click HERE to see my post.

I think the dark blue and bright yellow on this card really make it stand out! If you like sunflowers, don’t miss out on this stamp set and the dies as well!

Sunflowers In the Neighborhood

Celebrate Sunflowers Card

One evening my husband and I were out for a walk and I noticed a yard from the side along the sidewalk that had a bunch of blooming sunflowers peeking out over the top of the wood fence. These wooden privacy fences are everywhere here in Houston. Sometimes I think it would be better not to have them and see our neighbors, but they are standard it seems like. Since we have the Celebrate Sunflowers Stamp Set, I felt I should make a card inspired by the sunflowers we saw!

Sunflowers

For my sunflower card, I started with Daffodil Delight Cardstock for the card base. For the look of the wood fence, I used a wood pattern from the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper. Although the top of my fence doesn’t show very much, I notched the top of the planks with the point of the Tailored Tag Punch and then drew in black lines to make the paper look like fence boards with a marker.

The sunflowers are the smaller ones in the stamp set, stamped in Memento Ink and colored with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. I used Daffodil Delight for the flowers, Soft Suede for the centers, and Granny Apple Green for the leaves, both the light and dark colors. I stamped a couple of flowers, the smaller ones, on the Basic White for the background and stamped three on scrap cardstock and then die-cut those. In the background for the look of sky I simply scribbled with the Light Balmy Blue and Light Pool Party Stampin’ Blends in the background.

The fence is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals® as are the die-cut sunflowers. I also die-cut some greenery with the same Sunflowers Dies and placed it here and there. The greeting is included in the stamp set although I only inked up the words you see to shorten it a little to fit on the card. I used Early Espresso Ink and die cut with the Ornate Frames Die. To help it stand out a little, I used my Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blend to just run around the edge of the die cut.

Here is a blog post from last year where I also stamped these smaller sunflowers in the set to make a card.

My card today certainly is a very summery card with the sunflowers! I really enjoyed seeing the real sunflowers in the neighbor’s yard! Remember, tomorrow is the first day of select designer papers being on sale for 15% off, and the In Good Taste Designer Paper is one of them! This is a very large package of paper with many images of backgrounds and textures you can use for cards and projects. Highland Heather Sunflower Thank You Card

Highland Heather Sunflower Thank You Card

This started out not to be a card! I was going to stamp a sunflower and die cut it and decorate a glass votive candle holder. The sunflower was going to be a little large for that project and when I laid it down on the table I thought it would look pretty on a card. That is how this Highland Heather Sunflower Thank You Card came to be! Don’t be afraid t change your mind from your original idea!

I decided to make my sunflower a different color than yellow, so I happened to choose Highland Heather for the color. I stamped the largest sunflower in the Celebrate Sunflowers Stamp Set in Highland Heather Ink. I die cut that sunflower, as well as the outline, with the Sunflowers Dies also out of Highland Heather Cardstock. I didn’t know if this would be enough contrast or not, but I liked it. I added the die-cut center out of Bumblebee cardstock.

The leaves are stamped in Granny Apple Green Ink on the same color cardstock, then die cut. The leafy stems are cut out of Garden Green Cardstock. The sunflower is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals and then I slid the leaves partially underneath. The greeting is also in the stamp set and is stamped in Highland Heather ink. The card base is Highland Heather.

In spite of not planning to even make this card, I was really pleased with it and may even copy myself and make some more, maybe in different colors! We are artists and can be creative with whatever we make!

The sunflower’s name comes from its tendency to face toward the sun. I didn’t even think of any symbolism about the sunflower, but I’ve read that it can symbolize adoration and loyalty. And it may mean something a little different across other cultures. Apparently it is an easy plant to grow because it is heat and drought tolerant and grows in the summer. If heat is good for sunflowers, I could be growing sunflowers filling my whole backyard because it is so hot here in Houston!!

I also stamped a Whisper White layer for inside the card with the smaller sunflower in the set just with Highland Heather Ink. That makes it easier to stamp or write a message inside the card on white instead of purple. While I had the stamp and ink out, I also stamped a corner of the envelope to make it pretty as well! Hopefully the envelope will not get separated from the card and I’ll remember to use it!

If you like sunflowers, this is a popular stamp set so check it out in the Online Store. And if you like the Sunflower Dies as well, you can buy both the stamp set and dies in the Celebrate Sunflowers Bundle at a 10% discount.
