Stampin’ Up! Updates

Stampin' Up! Weekly Deal Mar 24 2015

Here are the current Weekly Deals from Stampin’ Up! for Tuesday March 24 through Monday March 30.

Also, last week when I was on vacation, there was an announcement about My Digital Studio (MDS). This program has been evaluated by Stampin’ Up! and determined that this product has not been as successful as Stampin’ Up! had hoped.  Therefore, it will no longer be offered after May 31, 2015. If you own MDS you can certainly still continue to use it and have your products printed anywhere other than the SU printer. Stampin’ Up! will no longer offer support, although if you ask your demonstrator about any questions or problems, we may be able to find out the answer for you within our demonstrator community. Be sure you have downloaded all the downloads you have purchased (I need to do this!) before May 31 and it is suggested you have everything backed up because you will not be able to go back to Stampin’ Up! to download again. You can use the SU Printer up until May 31 (I need to do this too!). I hate to see MDS go, as do a lot of demonstrators and customers, but I didn’t use it as much as I intended to and maybe that was true with a lot of people.

However, for your memory-keeping, we do have Project Life by Stampin’ Up! created by Becky Higgins that is very easy to use! Stampin’ Up! continues to bring us exciting new products so while I am sad to see MDS go, change is a part of life and stamping! Just be sure you purchase any downloads (or the software) before May 31 and if you have any projects you have made but not printed, have them printed by the SU printer before May 31. You can always print things yourself or have them printed at other local businesses.

Remember, Sale-A-Bration comes to an end March 31, a week from today!

The Good and the Bad from Stampin’ Up!

Just Kidding Card

Let’s start with the good!  Here is a new photopolymer stamp set, Just Kidding, released this month by Stampin’ Up! The designer of this stamp set said she created it to honor her long-time friends and their journey through life together with lots of laughter. I’m sure we can all appreciate that and know that probably the older we all get, the more we appreciate our dear friends. Now you can enjoy making funny and endearing cards to send to those special people with this new stamp set!

Blendabilities Update

Not such good news! Stampin’ Up! has discontinued the Blendabilities markers due to quality manufacturing issues.  When the tip is welded to the barrel, the welding process can leave microscopic (invisible) holes in the marker tip. This leads to accelerated evaporation of the alcohol in the ink. As Stampin’ Up! noticed more and more issues and complaints with these markers, they stepped up their quality testing and discovered that there was a serious problem with the entire line. While not all the markers were bad, the failure rate from the manufacturer was unacceptable to Stampin’ Up! After much consideration, they said, they decided to discontinue the product. You will need to contact your demonstrator if you are having issues with your Blendabilities or if yours were backordered. No backorders will be filled as all markers have been sent back to the manufacturer.

The good news, I suppose, is that the popularity of the Blendabilities with customers and demonstrators showed that we like alcohol-based markers! So Stampin’ Up! is looking into this. It will probably be awhile until this is all sorted out and Stampin’ Up! has all issues addressed and hopefully a new product to offer us.

With Blendabilities no longer available as a Sale-A-Bration option, it is anticipated that the demand on other Sale-A-Bration items will be higher than forecast. For that reason, all Sale-A-Bration items (with the exception of stamps) will now be “while supplies last.”

If you have Blendabilities that work, just enjoy them! Not all of them will have problems, and keep in mind, none of them were meant to last forever. There was even talk of possible refills for them down the line. But certainly they shouldn’t have arrived dry or dried out after just a few uses.  Be sure to store them flat, not on either end, so the ink will be distributed evenly.

The Memento Black Ink and Refill ARE still available to order!  The Memento Black Ink is great to use and isn’t just for Blendabilities.

The Bokeh Technique in Card-Making

Bokeh Technique Happy Card

Bokeh is a photography term meaning the way the camera lens renders out of focus points of light, but we can produce a similar look of bokeh on the background of a card using our Stampin’ Up! inks and accessories. You might think about bokeh if you see a Christmas photo with a clear close-up of one ornament on the tree and the tree and lights in the background have a blur to them.

Here is an example of bokeh in photography:

Bokeh Background

The bokeh technique is really popular right now in cardmaking!  And so fun to do! There’s almost no right or wrong (as in most stamping techniques) and there are several ways to do it. You can use watercolor paper and the Aqua Painter to spread around drops of ink. Or you can sponge ink in various colors on Whisper White card stock. Then you take circle stencils and sponge White Craft Ink inside the circles, overlapping, wherever you would like them.  That softens the colors in the background and gives you the spots of light look.  You can make it as soft or as bold as you like.

To see my little Flipogram video of the Bokeh technique, go to my Facebook Business Page right HERE and watch!  It was fun to make! There’s even music! You may have to scroll down depending on when you are reading this!

 Important Stampin’ Up! Update:

We are experiencing a quality issue with our Blendabilities product line. Except for the Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad (item #132708) and the Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad Refill (item #133456), all item numbers have been turned off; this includes Blendabilities Sale-A-Bration item numbers.

At this time, backorders for Blendabilities will not be fulfilled.

We thank you for your patience and will update you as soon as we have more information.

*****************************

I love my Blendabilities and use them quite often, although I had to call the other day about a dry one in one set. Maybe I won’t get a replacement now.  I do know Stampin’ Up! has excellent customer service so I feel sure they are working on this problem and will update us further as soon as they know something else to tell us. In the meantime, please look at the other fun items you can choose for your free Sale-A-Bration item with a $50 order!

And speaking of Sale-A-Bration, remember tomorrow, March 1st, there will be four new free items to earn with a $50 purchase. Click the photo below for a close-up!

Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals Feb 24 2015

Stampin' Up! Weekly Deals Feb 24 2015

Here are the new Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals for today February 24 – March 2. Sequins are trendy right now so pick up these In Color Sequins and add some sparkle to your cards and projects! Choose some ribbons and trims to embellish your projects – two kinds of twine in three colors, seam binding ribbon and beautiful white satin! The Simply Created Banner is just the canvas pennants and jute twine to hang them (not the original kit) but they are fun to decorate for sure! Use them for any occasion or holiday and decorate to your heart’s content!

The Celebrate Easter is a download for My Digital Studio, but did you know you can use it even if you do not own MDS?  Just print out the greeting or paper design or template with your computer and home printer. Or for only $19.95 you can own the My Digital Software and have access to ALL the content that comes with the software which is A LOT! I recommend the digital download so you get it immediately and you don’t have to worry about losing or damaging the disc. But the choice is yours. You CAN get the hang of digital designing, and it’s not just for scrapbooking.

Add any of these discounted Stampin’ Up! products to your order and they do count toward your Sale-A-Bration total – once you get to $50 in merchandise you can choose one of the Sale-A-Bration free products! How to Store Your Paper Stack

Paper Stack Storage in Case

Now that Valentine’s Day is over, you may have used a lot of papers in your Stacked with Love Designer Paper Stack and have a lot of partial scraps or torn out patterns. Even though you try to keep them inside the pad, they probably tend to fall out. You could put them in a plastic bag, but, I don’t know, that doesn’t fit well into your perfect organizational scheme, does it?! So here is an idea I saw recently and I thought it was a great storage idea for the paper stacks!

The whole paper stack fits nicely into a Stampin’ Up! Clear-Mount Stamp Case. Did you know you could purchase extra empty stamp cases and use them for projects or storage? The Clear-Mount Stamp Cases (119105) are available for purchase!  You get 4 cases for only $5.95. They are so useful for storing extra stamps (like from Paper Pumpkin kits) or paper scraps or decorating to hold a notebook and pen – whatever you can imagine! Since you can see through the cover of the stamp case, you can read the name of the Paper Stack through the cover or you can label it as yo like.

Next time you place an order, think about including a set of Clear-Mount Stamp Cases.  You can also purchase the larger Wood-Mount Stamp Cases (full-size) and the Wood-Mount Half Cases. All these empty stamp cases are good to use for storage. And I know we stampers are always looking for new storage ideas!

Don’t forget to check the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals as well. Monday nights are the last time to purchase the current Weekly Deals and then on Tuesday there will be new ones.

Stampin' Up! Weekly Deal Feb 10 2015
We’re moving along through Sale-A-Bration, the Stampin’ Up! promotion where you earn a free product with a $50 purchase, so don’t delay!  Get your goodies so you don’t forget!

Try the Stampin’ Up! Clear-Mount Stamp Cases to store your paper stack and not have scraps and pages falling out all over the place. Use the extra ones for other storage or stamping projects!  They are great!

Last Minute Valentine’s Day Projects

Last Minute Valentine's Day Project Ideas

Looking for last minute Valentine project ideas?  Here are two Valentine cards and one Tiny Treat gift box decorated for Valentine’s Day.

If you have a small gift you are giving your Valentine, just use one of Stampin’ Up!’s many gift boxes, such as this Tiny Treat Box. Or use any box you have and get some inspiration for decorating from this box. Do a little stamping, embellish a little and tie on a pretty ribbon! I always keep some Stampin’ Up! packaging products on hand because you never know when you might need one, and once you have the box, it is easy to decorate! I used the You Plus Me Stamp Set and some coordinating Stacked with Love Designer Washi Tape.

The Wood You Be Mine Photopolymer Stamp Set is great for masculine cards with loving greetings that aren’t “too mushy”! I even WON this stamp set as a Prize Patrol from Stampin’ Up! during the Occasions Catalog Reveal that was livestreamed! Who would think you could win a prize sitting at your computer?! While I wasn’t crazy about this stamp set at first, you can’t but fall in love with this woodsman and his cute flannel shirt that you can stamp or color any way you want! Lots of possibilities with this stamp set, and of course it won’t just be for Valentine’s Day with different greetings. I cut out the woodsman with my Paper Snips so I could place everything on the card the way I wanted (copying a sample in the Occasions Catalog!). He was surprisingly easy to cut out so don’t be afraid! Of course using Paper Snips Scissors makes cutting easy! They REALLY make a difference! Every stamper should have a pair.

And for a fun Valentine, how about the Cheerful Critters Photopolymer Stamp Set?! These “critters” just make you happy no matter what project you are making!  And with their signs and arms up you can add any greeting you like. After coloring the bunny critter with the Blendabilities Markers, I cut out with Paper Snips and cut out her arms without the sign so she could hold up the heart, die cut with the Hearts Collection Framelits Die. The background is stamped with the little grouping of tiny hearts from the You Plus Me stamp set.  Just think of how often you can use those cute little hearts because hearts and stars are for any occasion!  Good to have on hand!

If you are making valentines at the last minute today, I hope these ideas inspire some creative ideas for you whether or not you have these exact stamp sets or materials.

Of course you can order any stamping supplies you need at your convenience online at my Stampin’ Up! Online Store by clicking this link! Remember, with a $50 purchase during Sale-A-Bration you get to choose a free Sale-A-Bration product! You will see the details at my Online Store.

Class Valentines for Girls & Weekly Deals

Two Hearts 3 x 3 Valentine

It’s about time to start thinking about class valentines for school parties! Over the weekend I had two moms come over and get an early start on valentines for their three school classes. Since I knew we would be making LOTS of valentines, I needed to keep them simple and doable. That meant we probably wanted to punch rather than crank the Big Shot fifty times, make sure I had enough supplies for that many valentines, and basically keep them fairly simple to make and remember that it would be little children receiving these who weren’t going to care how creative we were, who might only barely look at them before tossing aside.  YET we were making them and enjoying doing that so we didn’t mind putting in a little work!

I knew Elsie liked pink and would want some bling and shine on her valentines for her all-girl 2nd grade class! I had some retired Pretty in Pink 3″ x 3″ notecards in my old stash so that saved cutting and scoring and were just the right size. Melon Mambo is a color that goes with Pretty in Pink so I made the layer from Melon Mambo paper in the Brights Backgrounds Designer Series Paper Stack.  The hearts are punched with the retired Heart Punch. One is made from the Silver Glimmer Paper and the other heart is stamped with a retired stamp set P.S. I Love You. The greeting is stamped on a little 1/2″ wide banner from a stamp in the January Paper Pumpkin Kit! The little staple from the Stampin’ Up! Handheld Stapler adds a cute little touch. And for some bling, we added a little Rhinestone Jewel to the heart. The hearts are popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The inside of the card is stamped with the “You’re the Best” stamp in the Just Sayin’ Stamp Set  that Elsie chose herself to use.

After the valentines, Elsie wanted to play (not with toys but with stamps!), and I had already spotted this past kit that I thought she might have fun with. In just a few minutes she had a whole bunch of flowers made! I have no doubt she can now use these flowers to embellish some other projects at home! She also made the popular rubber band bracelets for everyone in her class to give out with her valentines! Elsie is quite the stamper even at her young age.  She knew exactly what she was doing when she was helping us with the valentines, and I loved having a child’s touch to all the valentines for herself, her brother Wyatt, and her friend Carl. Isn’t she the cutest thing?!

Elsie

Don’t we all have the best memories of elementary class valentine parties, of decorating the shoe box or the bag, cutting hearts out of construction paper, using doiles, maybe even some glitter and glue?! I think I remember having a kit to assemble my own valentines rather than the typical store-bought valentines. So maybe it has all come full circle!

Here are the new Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals for January 27 – February 2. If you like embossing with the Big Shot or the Texture Boutique, you will LOVE these deals!  Stock up on some embossing folders! The Texture Boutique is way less expensive than the Big Shot, but remember, you can only emboss with it. To do more, get the Big Shot, some paper, some embossing folders, whatever you like to total $150. Then get $25 in Hostess Dollars to spend on anything, plus 3 Sale-A-Bration items FREE!
