Gift Box Punch Board Gift Box Side

Soon you will be able to make your own gift boxes with the new Gift Box Punch Board #135863 when the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog goes live on August 28!  That’s in only a couple more days! Yesterday I finally got a chance to play with the new punch board and just grabbed a retired piece of designer series paper, Urban Garden, to use in case I messed up. So in this project you are seeing the new with the old!  You may find the punch board a little confusing right at first, but once you get the hang of it, you won’t have any problems. After all, I did make that box myself and didn’t even mess up! This post isn’t about how to use the Gift Box Punch Board, but just a sneak peek at something you can make with it and an idea for the Blossom Punch, on the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals this week!

Here is the 4″ x 4″ gift box before I decorated it. This is the largest size you can make with the Gift Box Punch Board.

Here is a view of the partially open box. You can see the little clasp closure on the points of the top of the box. You can use the Gift Box Punch Board to make these. If you do not like all the folds of the box being pushed to the inside of the box, there are a couple things you can do to change that to adhere those sides.

Here is a close-up of the flower decoration I made with the Blossom Punch. First I wrapped the box with the Pear Pizzazz 3/4″ Chevron Ribbon. I thought it matched pretty nicely! With the Blossom Punch, I punched three flowers from the Urban Garden DSP.  One pattern is different from the other two and is layered in the middle. The layers are all held together with a Silver Mini Brad, which is later covered up by the button.  I spritzed the flower with water and gathered the layers up toward the center and mooshed them together to get a little texture. The Very Vintage Designer Button is threaded with the Gold Baker’s Twine with a little bow and adhered with Glue Dots. Do you know you can color the buttons with the new Blendabilities?!

Even though this box was my first attempt with the Gift Box Punch Board, coming in the Holiday Catalog, and even though I didn’t even like this pack of designer paper very much, I was VERY pleased with my first little box! Especially after I so easily decorated it!

Here are the new Weekly Deals from Stampin’ Up! for the week of August 19 through Monday, August 25. Be sure to check these out and add them to your order! Or start your order with these new things and add on other new items from the catalog! I see it as a sign – I believe this is the second time for the Squares Framelits to be on this list and I didn’t order them the first time.  Maybe I better start a new order with these on it! The Honeycomb Embossing Folder has been very popular, you’ve probably seen lots of cards made with it. Of course I love all punches, so at a discount I certainly recommend getting the Elegant Butterfly Punch to have on hand. Sometimes a little butterfly on a card or project is just what it needs! Thinking ahead to Christmas cards, you might be interested in a little sparkle from the Silver Sparkle Dazzling Details.

You might wonder about the Vanilla Coaster Board.  Stampin’ Up! describes it this way:  “Thinner than chipboard, but sturdier than cardstock. Perfect for die cutting. Neutral color makes it ideal for embossing and stamping too.” One thing that comes to mind for me is using it for a mini album cover. But I haven’t used it yet.  Maybe I should put it on my order, too!

Remember, the digital downloads, like the Travel Journal Digital Kit, for My Digital Studio, CAN be used without the MDS software. But if you want to have My Digital Studio on your computer and have all that it offers, you can purchase the software download (recommended) or the disc if you prefer. You can even just do the free trial for 30 days. Check out My Digital Studio and see if it is for you!

Texas Sales Tax Holiday – Buy Your School Supplies from Stampin’ Up!

Texas Flag

I’m glad the Texas state flag is easy to make with just red, white, and blue and a white star! Starting today, August 8, the Texas Sales Tax holiday will be in effect through August 10 to help parents save a few pennies with all the before-school-starts purchases! And when you are buying a lot of things, those 8 pennies on every dollar do add up.

To save a few shopping minutes, there are some items you can order directly from Stampin’ Up! that count as school supplies, as long as each item is priced under $100. You can spend more than $100 total but any item (like the full set of markers in a case) that costs more than $100 would not be eligible. You don’t have to have children in school in order to take advantage of the school supplies! Stock up on general items like adhesives, scissors, markers and pens while you can save a little bit of money, if you live in Texas! Even if you don’t have children in school, you never know. Some night your neighbor may call and ask if you have any glue for her child’s science fair project or report she just found out about!

Stampin’ Up! sent out a letter to Texas demonstrators to pass on to their customers:

“The state of Texas is having a sales tax holiday for school supplies up to $100 per item from August 8-10. States typically define School Supply as “any item normally used by students in a standard classroom for educational purposes.” Because school supply items are included in this sales tax holiday, the list of items below will be state tax-free during the holiday period. Please note that you must place your order with Stampin’ Up!® during the tax holiday period in order to receive these items tax-free. Also, keep in mind that this is a state sales tax holiday and may not apply to additional county, city and special jurisdiction taxes.”

Stampin' Up! Star Framelits 4th of July Card

What says “4th of July” more than sparkly stars and fireworks?! These stars were cut out with the Big Shot and the new Stampin’ Up! Stars Framelits Dies plus the new little star punch in the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.  The little “fireworks” in the background were stamped with the smallest petals in the Too Kind Stamp Set. The word “Celebrate” is from the Cupcake Party Stamp Set except I only colored the word “celebrate” with a Stampin’ Write Marker. And I love the Goil Foil paper and the Champagne Glimmer Paper for this card for the stars!

If you have time to play today with crafts, make something sparkly and/or red, white, and blue to celebrate our freedom and the birth of our nation!

Quatrefancy Hello Lovely Panel Card

Time is really getting short on retired Stampin’ Up! products, so I thought I would use some of my Quatrefancy Specialty Designer Series Paper and the Hello, Lovely Stamp Set. I have to admit, I haven’t been crazy about this pack of paper, but if I looked more at each paper individually, maybe it wasn’t too bad!  On this card, I just cut some 3/4″ strips of paper from scraps in the package and staggered them a little on this card front. Although I tried to center the center strip, I got it off a little bit which made the strips too far over to the right.  Since there “are no mistakes in stamping!” I decided to fix it by covering the extra wide margin on the left with some of the Whisper White 5/8″ Organza Ribbon (my favorite ribbon for a long time!). I stamped the greeting in Island Indigo ink and layered on pieces of Strawberry Slush and Pool Party card stock. Kind of a fun design to show off the papers in the Quatrefancy pack.

Be sure to also look on page 2 when you check out the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deal this week! Lots of ribbon available this week plus two Digital Downloads for My Digital Studio. Stop and think about how you can use the ribbon other than for making cards or scrapbook pages. Use it for gift wrap or give a collection of ribbon, maybe tape, scissors, and some plain wrapping paper as the gift itself to someone who could use a started gift wrapping set! We can all use ribbon from time to time. We used to tie ribbon in our hair when we were girls! Maybe you bake a plate of cookies or special bread for a friend now and then.  Tie some ribbon around it and make it special!

The Burlap ribbon is really on trend now and is fun to use. Use it as is or even pull it apart and use a bunch of the individual threads for a new decorative look.
