Stampin’ Up! New Weekly Deals for April 8-14

Weekly Deal April 8 2014

Here are the new Weekly Deals from Stampin’ Up! for the week of April 8 – 14. If I didn’t already have them, I would grab the Punch Pack, a set of little punches that are oh so handy for various things. The one punch has a little scalloped edge circle that is great for using as the center of flowers. You could really use any of them for that or even use just the punch itself as an itty bitty flower.

Here is a card I made last year using the Itty Bitty Scallop Punch in the Punch Pack.

Itty Bitty Punch Pack Easter Cross

Be sure to check out all the Weekly Deals! If you already have the Secret Garden stamp set, now’s the time to get the coordinating Secret Garden Framelits. And of course who doesn’t want more Baker’s Twine and ribbon?

Just go to my Stampin’ Up! Online Store to shop today!

Scalloped Tag Topper Punch Spring Basket

Scalloped Tag Topper Punch Spring Basket

Did you know you can make a lot more things with the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch than just tags? I’ve seen various creations but got the idea to make a Spring Basket using the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch. It’s available in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog along with the beautiful Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper.

To make the basket, I cut two strips of Daffodil Delight 2″ x 7 1/2″ and punched one end on each strip with the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch.  Score at 3″ from the scalloped top and fold. Those will be the ends of the basket and you can adhere the bottom pieces together.

Scalloped Tag Topper Basket Base

Cut two pieces of Daffodil Delight 2″ x 5 1/2″.  Score 1/2″ at each end. These pieces will be the front and back sides of the basket. If you need to, make a brace to put in the center with a 1″ x 4″ piece scored at 1″ at each end and glue inside the basket.

The handle is a piece 1/2″ x 8 1/2″. I added a piece of Whisper White 1/2″ Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon to the top of the handle using Tombow Multi-Purpose Adhesive. You can see how the handle is inserted and adhered inside in the photo below.

Decorate your basket however you like!  If you want to stamp on it, be sure to do it before assembling!  I added a layer of Island Indigo card stock to the basket and then the Watercolor Wonder paper on top of that. I made the flower with the Pansy Punch. It was just the right size and I punched several flowers out of the sheet of Watercolor Wonder paper that had shades of yellow and blue on it to get a variation in color. A retired Printed Designer In Color Brad held the flowers in place. Then I foofed them up and down and all around to give them some dimension.

You could also make a paper box the right size and just use the tag punched with the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch at the ends. So many different ways to make these great papercrafting projects!

Scalloped Tag Topper Punch Spring Basket Side

The Scalloped Tag Topper Punch is one of my favorite items in the Occasions Catalog because it would sure be difficult to make that pretty scallop at the top by hand! Go shop at my Stampin’ Up! Online Store today and find your favorite products!

It’s April Fool’s Day….I Thought This Was an April Fool’s Joke!

Fine Print Greeting Cards Templates

Happy April Fools Day!  Happy April 1st! It wasn’t like I could think of an April Fools joke myself to put on my blog (at least not yet!), but then I saw Stampin’ Up! had the new Weekly Deals up as well as the new My Digital Studio Downloads as they do every Tuesday. There are only two new MDS downloads. When I saw the download pictured above, I thought, Stampin’ Up! came up with their own April Fools joke with this silly stamp set. But it’s real, and you obviously have to read the FINE PRINT! Click on the image above to go to the store page – and then click on the magnifying glass – and THEN click on the arrow to the side to click through each image so you can read the FINE PRINT!

Fine Print Close-up

Maybe these aren’t your type of greetings for your friends – but then again, maybe they are! The description says:

Have fun on April Fool’s Day or any day with these quirky cards,
just don’t forget to “read the fine print”

And here is the other CUTE My Digital Studio download for this week!

Make Your Own Tulips Card

Make Your Own Tulips Card

I started off making this card using the Banner Punch to make a sun, like I have seen other people doing online. The Banner Punch is one of the FREE items you can get in March during Sale-A-Bration with a $50 Stampin’ Up! purchase! Just punch a circle (mine is 1 3/8″) and punch some banners to make the sun’s rays. Such a clever idea! I used the Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper since it has the color variation already on it in the design. The background Soft Sky paper is embossed with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder, also in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure. And I hadn’t even played with the Word Bubbles Framelits enough to realize one of the dies looks just like a cloud! I die-cut one in Whisper White and noticed a scrap piece of Vellum card stock on the table so I die cut that piece for a “wispy” see-through cloud!

Since my backordered Fringe Scissors came the other day, I snipped some grass for the bottom of the card. If you are waiting for Fringe Scissors they will probably be on the way soon! They are fun to play with!  While playing with the Banner Punch, I thought the banners, with rounded corners on the bottom, could look like tulips! I have an old corner rounder punch, but this is the current 3/16″ Corner Punch. You could also just round off the corners with your Paper Snips.

If you punch the little banner first and then try to round the corners, you’ll have a hard time holding on to that little piece. You can cut a longer strip 5/8″ wide, round the corners first, then insert it into the banner punch by holding the rounded end sticking just the end you want punched into the banner from the top rather than the side of the punch, so just the “tail” end of the banner will be punched.  That way you can make your “tulip” the length you want it. Cut your tulip stems by hand.  The leaves I punched with the Bird Punch but then trimmed them by hand because I needed the leaves smaller. In punching the “tulips” I was just practicing with scraps of the Watercolor Wonder paper when I realized that the other side of the yellow had the soft varied colors that would good as flowers.

So after making the sun with the Banner Punch, making tulips with the Banner Punch was just a happy accident!  Sometimes you never know what you will end up creating when you sit down to stamp!

For any punches or stamping supplies you need, and to take advantage of Stampin’ Up!’s biggest promotion of the year, Sale-A-Bration, be sure to shop at my Stampin’ Up! Online Store!

About the Texture Boutique Embossing Machine

Texture Boutique Embossing Machine

This handy-dandy Texture Boutique Embossing Machine has been having a few problems (in some cases), so of course Stampin’ Up! is working on solving those problems. Some people have had a problem getting a good embossed image with this machine, so Stampin’ Up! is working with the manufacturer to fix this issue. It does come with a shim, which you should be using if you do own the machine. This machine was planned to be introduced in the next new Stampin’ Up! Catalog, but since a certain number were ready early, Stampin’ Up! had an early launch after Leadership.

Stampin’ Up! will turn off the item code on March 8 so it will no longer be available to order until the new catalog is released while they work with the manufacturer on a permanent fix. If you are getting good embossing, then of course go ahead and use your machine. Or you might find that the less detailed embossing folders work just fine in your machine. I’ll keep you posted of any new developments.

Don’t forget about the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals!  Today is the last day for this group! Just click on the picture to go to my Stampin’ Up! Online Store for more information on these deals!

Stampin' Up! Weekly Deal Feb 25 2014

These Weekly Deals and any other current Stampin’ Up! products count toward Sale-A-Bration, so be sure you order at least $50 to earn a FREE Sale-A-Bration Product!  We are already in the last month of Sale-A-Bration!  Can you believe it is March?!!

Save Money on Stampin’ Up! Products

Stampin' Up! Weekly Deal Feb 25 2014

Save a little money on some Stampin’ Up! products this week in the new Weekly Deal! Every Tuesday Stampin’ Up! has been offering several products at a discount.  This special is good until the following Monday night.  Add these items to your order and when you reach $50 you can ALSO take advantage of Stampin’ Up! Sale-A-Bration and choose a FREE product from the Sale-A-Bration Brochure!

Here are some tips for these products!

  • The Backyard Basics Framelits Dies coordinate, of course, with the Backyard Basics Stamp Set, available in wood- or clear-mount. There is also a Bundle, too, if you prefer which includes the stamp set and framelits.
  • You might like to use Clear Embossing Powder with the Gold Metallic Encore Pad. You can use the ink without being embossed but if you touch the stamped image you might get a dab of ink on your finger, although the image itself doesn’t smear.
  • The Paper Doily Sizzlits Die is beautiful but a little more labor intensive, sometimes. Sometimes it depends on the amount of pressure exerted in your own Big Shot. It may help to place a piece of wax paper on the die and then the card stock which helps the pieces come out. Or just use your Paper Piercing Tool or something sharp to poke out the little pieces. But sometimes they don’t even all have to be poked out because sometimes/usually you are covering part of the doily with some other element. But it is a beautiful die and can add a lot to your project!

Tags 4 You Valentine Card

Tags 4 You Valentine Card

Do you ever just reach into a bag of card stock scraps and see what you come up with? That’s how this Valentine came to be!  I spotted a Melon Mambo card base in my bag and thought, “Wow, I haven’t used Melon Mambo in a while!” The tag is also made from Melon Mambo and punched with the new Scalloped Tag Topper PunchCut your strip of paper exactly 2″ or a sliver narrower to fit into the punch.  Make sure it is pushed all the way to the back. Then make the length anything you want! I found a scrap of Silver Glimmer Paper already scalloped so I added a piece to the bottom of the tag.  The greeting is from the stamp set Tags 4 You, a carryover stamp set from the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog that you can still order. The greetings in that stamp set fit the Bracket Label Punch perfectly. I thought the tag needed something so I stamped it with Melon Mambo ink and the row of hearts from the Language of Love stamp set.

The Whisper White card layer is first embossed with the Adorning Accents Embossing Folder, the little hearts!  So sweet! Again, I thought the card needed a little something so I stamped the row of hearts above the embossing.  The Stamp-A-Ma-Jig comes in handy for that although you can carefully eyeball it! And of course the little hearts are punched with the Small Heart Punch.

Back to the tag! I tied a bow with the Silver 1/8″ Ribbonavailable in the Occasions Catalog after making its debut in the Holiday Catalog. And then for a bit more, I picked up a Tea Lace Paper Doilie on the table. It was too large, but I cut off a section and then folded it back and forth and adhered to the top of the tag.  Then the tag was ready to go!

I hope you are getting inspired to make a few handmade Valentines for your friends and family! Only nine more days until Valentine’s Day!

Spiral Flower Originals Die…Lovely to Own!

Spiral Flower Originals Die

At Stampin’ Up! Leadership 2014 last week, I was able to see the Spiral Flower Originals Die in person and see the flowers made with it. Now I want to order it! They were showing the die and a ton of flowers made with it for demonstrators to see up close and personal. The Stampin’ Up! employee I was talking with said each flower will turn out different according to who made it and how tightly or loosely you roll it up. It is suggested you use your Bone Folder after cutting out the flower to loosen up the paper fibers to make it roll easier.  The die, like other dies of this kind, are not just for paper either!  You can use other materials, such as fabric, so think of the possibilities! Just roll it with your fingers or around a pencil or skewer, however you want to do it.  You can leave the center as it comes out or push it down and put a button inside or rhinestone or something.

After Leadership there was a public event and some Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators were ‘demonstrating’ at booths. One was doing these paper flowers so here are some photos and ideas:

Spiral Flower Die Rose Tin

Spiral Flower Die Rose Lollipop

Spiral Flower Rose Heart Wreath

To add the Spiral Flower Die #129379 to your next order, just go to my Stampin’ Up! Online Store!  You could have a table full of flowers in no time for spring!
